As I embark on my journey on becoming a better fisherman, I couldn't miss the opportunity of fishing in the beautiful state of Hawaii! In this episode, I try to fish multiple ocean spots and landed 4 different species of fish which were really cool.
Hawaii has some of the coolest fish that I've ever seen and totally different from Bay Area fish. Although I was mainly on vacation for this trip, I definitely want to go back and plan a fishing trip out there soon!

In calmer waters in Hawaii, you need to use a thinner leader. Something in the the 6-8 lb range is perfect. You look like you had a 15 or 20lb test leader.

Lol I know this isn’t the mainland? But the way we retrieve is a bit faster. Sometimes way faster. lol so funny . Small fishes will attach the slow retrieve just sayin.. bro!

When using bubble floats, make sure it splashes when you retrieve it. It's like a popper.

@skaii7609 he's right I've caught nice fish using a lite wire hook and bobber. Crank moderate speed 3 to 4 seconds and gently pop rod tip as you reel it. After 4 second moderate retrieve and popping rod tip pause bobber for 5 to 7 seconds. If moderate doesn't work try slower or faster retrieve 😊😊

Use the bubble float with a curly tail grub and reel fast for papio

Fish saltwater fish more aggressively! You’ll figure it out that it’s not fresh water bass you’re fishing

That only affects the WAIKĪKĪ-DIAMOND HEAD SHORELINE FISHERIES MANAGEMENT AREA and other management areas which was more to the left of where I was fishing!

    mamo (damsel)
    lizard fish
aha (needle fish) and last one looked like another needle fish.
i use to do the mixing of egg leads and bubbles too, but i never found it to be of much good to be honest.
You should merely just fill the bubble up some more if you need more weight for casting.
either you want to target top middle or bottom. using the bubble and having the lead sink doesn't really let the bubble do its job.
for the egg lead you will likely be targeting papio, these are extremely fast apex predators, if you wish to catch a legal size one, you don't have to worry about reeling in too fast. These fishes are so fast, you'd have to make an effort to out run them. They dash extremely fast.
another method with the egg lead is to do some dunking with it. you can catch weke and oio on the bottom, papio hits bottom too. use a bit of shrimp and wait awhile with the egg on a sandy bottom.
the bubble can be reeled in quickly for surface pops, this attracts the papio. Don't be afraid to reel it in slowly either. The sun sparkle of the water will attract the mamo and especially the aholehole love chasing the flashy bubble. You're not really trying to catch these, you let the kupipi, mamo, hinalea, and aholehole swarm your piece of shrimp, the commotion of all the fishes will alert large papios for the feeding. It kind of turns their feeding mode on. This is how a lot of predatory fishes work. Most people see rubish fishes chasing their bait and automatically just reel it in, this is not necessarily the best move. Or people see that their bait keeps getting taken with no hit and give up. Persistence is key here. just keep throwing out a bubble with shrimp and at some point the small fishes will attract predators. arguably sometimes its baracudes which aren't really safe to eat(cigutera), and half the time they just cut your mono/fluoro line anyways.
