Looking at the logistics of using a Polini Thor 250 engine on the xl, would free up almost 50 pounds of weight, and lot more redundancy then current engines being used. Could then possibly make enclosed cockpit.
I don’t know anything about the polini engine so I can’t comment on that but the Hummel full case I used only weighed 82 lbs plus the weight of the prop ( a couple pounds) Does the polini only weigh 30 lbs or so? if you’re looking for an enclosed cabin Leonard has plans for a double eagle.
I’ve heard that debate before. Because my landings are sometimes less than smooth I’ve found holding the fuse tube helps keep me steady. My hand is only a few inches above the throttle so I can get to it quickly if a go around is needed.

I went with a Casler 37hp. I figured the more you stressed a vw engine the shorter it would last. I may be wrong but that is how I think. With 37 HP it flies great. I have to pull back to around half throttle after the climbout to cruise at 55 or 60. ( On the Belite airspeed indicator anyway) I was very
slow and a little heavier on the controls than I expected... Fun though.. I'm still not sure I like the feeling of vulnerability.. hanging out i the air like that. I've been flying GA for 20 yrs now and like not being able to see so much around me.
Heavy on controls wax your cables by the fairleads,,, it works great. Get parifin mix with oil with heat to get the right consistency. You can get wax for cutting aluminum that works to. Nice build CJ
