I feel like this a good place to drop safety tips.
1.NEVER mention you are traveling alone or will be alone at your destination. Jack did this in the game, but it places a target on your back. Lie. You're meeting a friend in a few miles, your friend is at home. But you never admit you are traveling alone.
2.Never take pills or drinks from anyone.
    3. Related to 2, keep a hand over your drink, and once a drink leaves your hand, consider it spiked. Your friend may have held it, but 'friends' do awful things to each other all the time. It's only safe in your hand.
4.If possible, never travel alone. Even better is having a travel buddy to sleep in shifts at night so someone is always awake.
    5.Dont hitchhike. Just don't.
6.If some object is blocking the road and you are alone at night, turn around and come back in the daylight or find another path. The couple lost hours are worth it.
    7. Trust your gut. If it seems sketchy, it is.
    8. Keep something that can be used for self defense with you at all times. I have a taser with me at all times. Dont be afraid to use it either.
Please comment even more safety advice!

Before walking to your car, have your keys out and ready so you're not fumbling for them or digging in your bag. As soon as you get in your car, shut the door and lock it- you can set everything down and situate yourself after! Act as if youre being followed, and always take note of your surroundings. Take the keys out of car when pumping gas, and always check your backseat before getting in.

Always when you get gas lock your car door before leaving the pump to pay, after filling the tank and you get in the car lock your door.

Had this one guy follow my car, he was on my tail the whole time. I didn’t go home; I went to the grocery store and told the workers (who were friends of mine) that I was being followed. I stayed there for a few hours even after the police were called and took the guy in. Just always be careful, even men!!! Shit can still happen to men!!

Fantastic thread thus far. I've got a couple to add.
1.) Here's one from my best friend who served in Army SOF and had some martial arts experience. The two of us spent a lot of time in bad parts of downtown Atlanta. The best advice he ever gave me when it came to if I encountered someone whose intentions I was trying to discern (say, approaching me on the street at night from the opposite direction) was to make direct eye contact with them and say "Hey." That's it. Nothing fancy. Just watch their reaction. The reason for this, as he explained it, is that if someone is working up the nerve to assault/rob you then they're almost certainly in a state of adrenaline-fueled tunnel vision and engaging them preemptively may disrupt that along with their train of thought, leading to some strange behavior in turn. It's not foolproof, but it's something to be used in concert with the other tools listed -- *especially* #7 and good old situational awareness.
2.) This next one is a bit of an addendum to #8. While having a self-defense tool is absolutely recommended, I can't recommend enough that anyone who carries one goes the extra steps by not treating it as a "trinket" or "totem". What I mean by that is so many people fall into the gadget-based mentality to self-defense. It's the fundamental trap of purchasing an item and then plopping it in their glove box, purse, or under their driver's seat and then leaving it there for 360 days out of the year except for occasionally showing it off to friends or whatever. They derive so much peace of mind from its presence, despite the fact that they've given no forethought to just how they're going to access said weapon if faced with a larger, stronger, faster opponent in close-quarters or precisely what they're going to do with it even if they *do* manage to deploy it in time. Remember, *you* are the weapon -- that tool is just a force multiplier. If you're purchasing a self-defense device of some kind, you owe it to yourself to do the following:
-- Make sure you procure a good holster/sheath/etc. that allows you to carry the tool safely *on your person* whenever feasible and deploy it quickly and consistently under stress.
-- Train with said device -- preferably under the tutelage of certified professionals -- on a regular basis.
-- Complement your weapon with at least basic fundamental skills in martial arts/hand-to-hand combat. There's so many viable styles to pick from out there these days -- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, Sambo, Judo, Sanda, certain schools of Karate & Krav Maga, etc. And while it's not for everyone, many people find that martial arts training comes with other positive life benefits, too. Whichever style you pick, make sure it incorporates actual live sparring, pressure-testing, and active resistance. Otherwise it's just glorified exercise and dance in the context of self-defense.
3.) I can't help but shamelessly plug one of my go-to content creators on here: "hard2hurt". Mike is a law enforcement veteran, seasoned mixed martial artist, and self-defense instructor. He's an absolute font of knowledge on the subject. I won't provide links as TH-cam doesn't usually like that, but some of his most relevant videos for this subject off the top of my head would be the following:
-- Defensive Driving and Carjacking Awareness
-- Situational Awareness is Not the Answer to Self Defense (This one isn't what it sounds like)
-- 5 Self Defense Myths That Women Still Believe
-- Can an Untrained Woman with Stun Gun Defend Herself?
-- The Truth About "Techniques for Women" or "How To Beat Larger Opponents"
-- The Best Self Defense Technique for Parking Lots and Public Places
He has countless others that are also in line with this subject matter, however. I highly recommend browsing his channel.
      Stay safe guys.

I remember my first semester of university I was staying in a house with 5 other people, none of us had ever met each other but we all got along great the first night there. When we all went to bed I stayed up later as I'm a bit of a night ow. 2 o'clock in the morning I heard a whistling. A mans whistle. We had no men in our house. I immediately rushed out to the main area (in hindsight, probably not a good idea). But there was a STRANGER STANDING IN MY KITCHEN. I screamed, my housemate came running out. It was then that this man explained that our landlord (also his landlord) had given him permission to do his laundry in our house since his didnt have a washing machine. WE asked him to give us his keys and he left. We talked with the landlord the next day. He refused to pay for the locks to be changed so we went about trying to do it ourselves. By the end of the week our TV had been stolen (we had no idea how many people our landlord had given keys to). Landlord then blamed US for the stolen TV. Honestly the most bizzare place I have ever stayed at. I have never felt more unsafe.

When I first got my license, my dad even told me that if a cop car turned on their lights behind me, I should slow down so that it was clear I wasn’t avoiding them, and then drive to a populated area if I was alone, even if it was miles away.

When I told my parents I picked up a hitchhiker they freaked out so much and scolded me a lot 😬 they told me I got lucky because it could have been a set up...but the streets were empty and there was no hiding spot for other people..us girls have to look out for each other

ok the problem with that is there was a video going around several months back of a police dash cam's footage where a woman was clearly trying to signal to the cop car following her that she intended to pull over, but she continued driving because it wasn't safe to get out. This cop almost killed her by trying to run her off the road, and I think he FLIPPED her car. It was absolutely insane.

True story time! Used to work as an overnight gas station clerk and have 2 stories that freak me out, not paranormal but regular stuff.
This drunk girl was left at the club by her friends (what she said). 2 guys in a truck offered her a ride to her hotel. 15 minutes later she came back said they were taking her somewhere else and she said she forgot her phone back at store. I confronted the 2 guys and told them she got help and they need to leave immediately or I'll call the cops. They left and she fell asleep on a stack of pop can cases. Probably saved her from being raped or worse.
One time a guy hit a deer while driving and pulled in to my gas station to take a break. Meanwhile his engine catches on fire from impact of deer. Couldn't put out the fire with fire extinguishers. What's really scary is the fact that this fire is happening on top of the fill points for the gas station. No catastrophic boom, but it could've been.

    • @Palitato
      @Palitato ปีที่แล้ว +46

@@ozy_kun I was working for a convention and was running check in in a hotel lobby. Girl staggered in, clearly distraught, crying, asking for a phone charger, wouldn't tell anyone what was the matter or what was going on.
After someone got her a charger and a bottle of water to sip on, she very slowly revealed what had happened to her.
She went on a "Booze Cruise" around the harbor with her friends... basically a floating bar on a boat. She and her friends got super smashed, and when they got off the boat, they hopped into a taxi to get a ride back to their hotel. Two friends in the back seat, girl in the front seat.
At a red light close to the hotel, the two friends in the back jumped out of the car, shouting something about her paying the fare, laughing as they bolted to leave her with the bill.
They apparently didn't remember that one of them was carrying her wallet. She didn't have any money on her.
The cabbie apparently pulled into an alley, said something along the lines of 'getting paid somehow' and tried to force her head down into his crotch.
She freaked out and panicked and managed to get away and get out of the car and just RAN. She had no idea where she was, and just wandered into the first open building she could find... which happened to be our hotel.
We called the police, but they were being obnoxious morons about jurisdiction bc of where it happened and the color of the cab meaning it was one district's case, but the location we called from/where the incident happened was a different one... and she'd been drunk and terrified and didn't have the cab number or even a very good description of the guy that could have easily matched a dozen people... and all she could tell about the cab was that it was 'yellow'.
I know her friends didn't mean for that to happen to her, but their stupid little 'joke' to leave her with the fare got her assaulted and traumatized. We had to sit with the poor thing while she sobbed and shook and tried to charge up her completely dead phone to call them, and neither of them was picking up. She eventually called another friend who hadn't gone on the cruise with them and that girl came and got her.
I hope she never spoke to the other two ever again.

I've read somewhere (I think under Seáns video), that there was a ring of human traffickers in this area. The locals knew about it, so they would just tell people not to pick up hitch hickers and scared them with ghost stories so they would be careful and wouldn't wander around. Some of the traffickers stayed at the motel, that's why the guy at the front desk told you not to disturb the other guests, so they wouldn't pay attention to you. Unfortunately that didn't work and they managed to drug you, took photos of you, probably plannig to kidnapp you later.

Situations like this is why I always have a boxcutter with me when riding serviceresor och färdtjänst (I don't know the word in english but it's like a cab only for disabled people, neurodivergent people and the elderly) because you'll never know who'll be driving and I can't just leave the car since I'm a permanent wheelchair user. A sharp object is my only chance in a bad situation like that.
I have long wanted to learn self defence but so far I can't find any resources for wheelchair users with illnesses and/or injuries that make their upper bodies weaker than able bodied peoples. You can bite through flesh with it. Push you fingers in his eyes, mouth or even ears and scratch. And mostly commit to it. Be agressive even if that is not in your nature. Although I think each one of these is based off of a real story/experience that a person sent in, I think the Devs obviously changed bits and pieces. It makes sense really. I think the Devs wanted inspiration for real life events that "could" happen, so they take the stories we send in, and alter it slightly. It's a spine tingling tale, and is real, for the most part.
It's like the first game "Home Alone." I find it a bit odd that the intruder was inside the house upstairs, then went back outside the house, and was randomly standing beside the front door. And if the real victim saw an intruder go upstairs, their obvious reaction would be to leave immediately, or to hide and call the cops. So the boy must have just been upstairs, got the messages about there being an intruder outside, then noticed the back door was open a crack. The stories are true, but altered for the gameplay! It's very interesting though!

So, so, so creepy! Dx That fed into so many of my own personal fears, just like the first chapter. Given the tone change, that manager *definitely* knew that something was going on, especially considering he knew to come back to her room. I wonder what was actually going on there.

    • @kipandren
      @kipandren 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

It might be easier to explain the manager's sudden reaction if the story is explained more first. It's easy to miss, but your character has been followed by at least 2 people the entire game. The first is a white van, and the second is a red car. The van follows her to the gas station; they appear to have done something to your car when you step out. As you leave the station and start down the road, there is a red car going at a leisurely pace just ahead of you. This is when your lights start to flicker due to the earlier sabotaging of the battery. At this point, the red car in front of you speeds up abruptly and disappears on the road ahead (he was watching for the telltale flickering to know that the sabotage had worked). Think of it this way: as you went along the road, there were logs placed there that forced you to stop. Who do you think put them there?
The guy who picked you up was not involved in the stalking, but likely knew about it (he suggests you were lucky it was him who picked you up and warned you against strangers in the area). During the hotel segment itself, you might have noticed certain things such as a white van around back and a certain red car parked in front of where the coffee machine was. Getting back to the manager, as you lead him away from your room to show him the coffee machine, if you look back at the correct moment, you can see the intruder sneaking back out of your room. When you get to where the coffee machine was, the manager looks around and there is a moment when he looks at the red car. If you look at it at this time, you can see the boot is open, likely to make it easier to grab the girl and stuff her in. The manager, being a local and knowing that there were a lot of missing women cases in his area, saw the boot in combination with her being drugged and put two and two together. This is why he tells her to get back to her room where she would be safest.
Tldr version is the manager recognized the signs of a local human trafficking ring (drugged woman, car left with boot open, disappearing coffee machine for ease of poisoning) and intervened.

You never think things like this happen in real life, or rather you don't _want_ to, but the fact is it happens everyday, and it's mortifying to know that. Just the lengths that those people would go to... _ugh._ It makes my skin crawl. I'm personally terrified of these sorts of things, and I know so many others are as well, so this had me paralyzed during almost the whole thing. To add in my own personal take on it, I don't believe that the man who gave her a ride knew what exactly was happening, but I do think he was at least aware of the fact that there were some strange things happening in the area, which is why he warned her. I just hope there was eventually an investigation into this. Screw the motel's reputation; these peoples' lives are far more important. At least the manager had the decency to help her.

@@pohia To give a good point its due, I definitely don't disagree with this assessment of the manager! I don't think he was necessarily a good person, either. Not being an outstanding person does not make him a bad guy, however. He seems to fall somewhere in a shade of grey. After all, he could easily have turned a blind eye to what was going on and she would have been just another lost drifter in the area.
To his credit, he did give Holly enough benefit of the doubt to follow her to where the coffee machine was, giving her the chance to prove to him someone had tried to drug her. There may also have been a reason the manager didn't want police involved. After all, Holly didn't really know the whole story; there could have been one or more officers involved in this. On the other hand, it is also likely the manager was running a really shady business and didn't want police around it. As you said, it's very hard to assess his motives when we know so little about him. He definitely comes off as very ambiguous because of this! What we do see for sure, however, are his actions in saving her from being kidnapped. Whatever his story may be, he did at least one good thing that night.

This game series is terrifying due to how rooted in reality it is. All of these things can happen aside from some of the smaller scares and that's what makes me scared if it. Its nice to to Gabby trying to think on her toes and take preventive measures, like drinking in the closet, that the game clearly didn't anticipate. It's also telling that women have to think about these kinds of plans, just in case.

There are so many details in this game that are so creepy to me.
When you're at the petrol station, you can see a guy mess with your car and drive off.
The person who drives in front of you has to have been the person who put the logs on the road, probably the one who sabotaged the car.
When you put your bags in the room, they're stacked differently later, someone went through them.
If you leave your room fast enough, you can see someone (The creep) walking into the room next to the coffee machine.
You get texts while you're drugged, but they're deleted later.
The main character had been drugged, passed out and later the creep is in the closet and the manager is complaining that there were 'goofy noises' coming from her room, she may have been raped while she was sedated.
The manager clearly knows some shady shit goes on at the motel, he likely knows that there's some kind of trafficking ring. Hence the cautiousness around her being drugged, telling her to stay in her room, and the painkillers in the room. He might want to help, but he's not doing anything.
Otherwise, the manager might have intentionally put her into a dangerous situation. Her room is the only one without curtains, meaning someone can look in.

I’ve stopped at few seedy motels in bad areas on road trips before. Once even, a tweaker got arrested for chasing his gf around outside with a drill. Yet, somehow, this episode made me way more freaked out.
That ‘hello?’ is straight nightmare fuel.

absolutely lovvvved this. i watched jacks vid on this game and it was weird seeing him play this and then saying it was to him not as scary as the first one. personally, I am much more scared of this one as an afab person (assign female at birth, i use they them pronouns). if someone was in my home id be able to know where the hiding spots and weapons (kitchen knives etc) were and if i was able to get out of the house id be able to go to someone i trust ie my neighbor. this one we are hundreds of miles from home, only interacted with men who are taller and stronger physically than we are and don't know a single person. also drugged and weakened. id feel much more vulnerable in this situation. there are so many things id do differently from jacks vid and the same in gabbys. this is bc of our experiences in our current society as a female and male. I'm so glad the person who submitted the story is okay cause ik this situation could've ended up her being severely injured or dead.

The comparison between the guys who have played this and our beloved queen here is remarkable and hilarious. All the dudes were uncomfortable but had absolutely no instincts whatsoever, meanwhile queen is doing literally everything you're supposed and being prepared... barricade the door, call your parents, don't go sleep, don't drink the coffee. All things in the woman's safety handbook we keep in the back of our minds.

Immediately seeing that guy walking away from your car at the gas station and getting into his van = he slashed your tires so you break down later up the road and you're a sitting duck for him to take you. This is a tactic used by many serial rapists and serial killers
