    hi, what is the formula for getting the fixed end moment of a cantilever with uniformly distributed load?

  • @arunndinesh
    @arunndinesh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Sir, Is there any standard formulae for finding the fixed end moment calculation of a beam with trapezoidal load( 2-way trapezoidal load from slab) distribution? could you please share any link?

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks for the comment buddy. I know what you're referring to, the trapezoidal tributary area for 2 way slab distribution to beams. In this case you'd need to break the load up into different cases and use superposition. You'd have a UDL in the centre, and two triangular loads on the right and left. I'll take a look and see if I can find the FEM formula for this loading.

      I couldn't find any deflection tables for what you mentioned. For this case you'll have to either solve for the moments by hand or use some software to generate them for you.

      Sure sir, I got the values from software.Actually I was looking to solve in by manually too. Ok, thanks for your response sir. :-)

      Good question, thanks for the comment man! You can derive these equations using deflection by integration. We did a four part video on it here: th-cam.com/video/39zdlzwDvgI/w-d-xo.html

    • @benjiealviar1137

      You can derive it easily by Area-Moment Diagram by parts.

    Where will you know the location where you are allowed to cut specially if theres no rollers

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regardless if there isnt a roller, we're just taking the fixed end moments of each span of our beam. This is independent of the end conditions.

    Hey man quick question, what do we do when we have 2 different loads in the same span. For example let’s say in the span AB is 15m and you have 1 load of 15kn at 5m from A and 12kn at 10m from A. I know you can use the formula 2PL/9 but in this case the P are not the same value. How would you handle that?

  • @benjiealviar1137

    You cannot simply assume the internal support to be fixed unless you're using moment distribution method.. In that case i would suggest moment distribution method or three-moment equation method.

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're called fixed end moments for exactly that reason: It's assuming that both ends are fixed.

    • @benjiealviar1137
      @benjiealviar1137 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AF Math & Engineering yes but Pab²/L² is only applicable to fixed end beams without internal supports. I thought what you did there was moment distribution method since you have the same assumption with the moment distribution method for fixed/propped beams.

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benjiealviar1137when we find the FEM moments of any span, we assume the ends are fixed end moments. Hence the name 'fixed end moments'. I'd suggest reading your structural analysis book from school for a more in depth theoretical explanation of the concept.

    • @benjiealviar1137
      @benjiealviar1137 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AF Math & Engineering i mastered the solutions to any kinds of loading in restrained beams. However when it comes to that kind of beam, none of my answers were correct. It's because it is analyzed as continuous beam.

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benjiealviar1137 this example was taken directly from a very reputable structural analysis textbook. This is a common and well known technique that's used in solving a number of structural analysis problems for indeterminate beams. Please consult structural analysis by kassalami for more examples and an explanation.
