Sarah Jane wasn't ungrateful. She was lost and angry. Most will never know what is like being an "in-between," not truly home or fully accepted by one side or the other for whatever reason. In a world where people are forced to choose, who wouldn't opt for what they deem to be an "easier" life? She didn't ask to be born into that world, but simply tried to deal with it as best as she could. Now was she right for how she treated Annie? No. But she was angry at her for having her and dealing her what she deemed a bad hand. I always felt for her when I watched this as a child.

@@salacioussummers Sarah Jane was ungrateful, disrespectful, and very cold hearted towards her own mother. Annie showed her daughter nothing but genuine love, yet Sarah Jane rejected her mother's love every chance she got. Sarah Jane wasn't biracial. She was a blk girl, yet her father was a very light skinned man. Disowning your entire race is sad in my opinion and constantly rebelling against the only mother you'll ever have is even sadder. Even as she grew older, her heart was wax cold. There's no excuse to treat your mother this way regardless of your own selfish reasons. My heart went out to Annie. She was treated horribly by a child she had to raise as a single mother and struggle with. Sadly, Sarah Jane is one of those grown adult children who you just have to love from a distance. I wouldn't have kept running behind her to gain her love and acceptance; however, Annie felt differently. All in all, in the end, Sarah Jane regretted how she treated her mom, but it was too late...of course.

They used to spend a lot more on movies. They also used to train them since they were young. They also used to keep out good actors because of skin color and relegate them to serving roles always. Some things were good about those times...others not so much.

A lot of the boring, stupid, or not-all-that-good movies from that time are long forgotten and lost, leaving us with only the good ones. In another 50 years, all the bad films of today will also be hard to find, even if they were tremendously popular. And people then will be saying how wonderful films were now.

Annie's character reminds me so much of my mother. She always put me first. Made sacrifices for me. I tried to let her know until the day she left this earth, how much I loved and appreciated her. I fell short many times, but I tried. I sincerely pray that you and others who didn't have mothers like Annie, that you experienced love from others in life. Maybe children or a spouse. I have neither. When I see mothers and fathers excited about, and loving on their kids and grandkids, there's a pain inside I can't describe. A love that I'll never know. All that to say that we all experience pain, but we're all still blessed...

That's like comparing a dead rat with one of the Queens Corgis. Not comparable nor would anyone with sense compare the two.

This movie always makes me cry. When my Mom was alive it would come on tv on Mother’s Day. And I would hold her for so long after, I gave that lady everything I could and she did the same for me. Now since her passing, I can only watch it occasionally. One of the last things she said was “She always brings me a rose, she never forgets.” She is gone to glory, a sweet heart of a woman who just loved people and was so beloved. And pancreatic cancer stole her from me, 🥹, but as she said the last time we spoke, “I will always be there when you need me, baby, in your heart.” ❤️‍🩹

Great movie with many fantastic scenes - and believable, too; comes close at times to being a little precious but actually manages to avoid that, due to great acting and a plausible story line that doesn’t overdo the length of each scene. By the way Lana’s house (Connecticut?) was one of the coolest and best houses in any 50’s movie.

One of the things that most impresses me about her was that she was not a racially prejudiced person and seemed to love people of color genuinely. That makes her an even bigger person in my eyesight, as I can't stand prejudice of any kind, towards anybody.
