- 'Tino Mori' is a traditional Macedonian song - it tells the story of a girl who is shamefully 'married off' by her parents to a man from a distant town, but the prospective husband becomes ill and dies.
Somewhat ironically, after returning to Australia from Bulgaria, where I'd been travelling to learn about the local folk music, I heard this Macedonian tune while playing the computer game 'Civilization VI' (whose soundtrack I highly recommend to anyone interested in folk music of various cultures around the world!). The melody got thoroughly stuck in my head, and when I tracked down the tune's name and origin I found it was a traditional song,
I always felt like the tune had really nice melodies with a lot of promise for some bombastic arrangement, so it was a pleasure to be able to incorporate it into my concert and play it together with these great musicians in big-folk style!
