These people had the best kind of jobs. When I was a little kid in that era, I wanted to work as a model builder at ILM when I grew up. Unfortunately , CGI came into vouge and destroyed this art and the human touch in special effects that a computer cannot replicate.
Me and my brother growed with all these Fx movies, and without great movies in our country, we make many masks and accesories for halloween houses and many cosplayers, and yes, we love our work creating many armors, monsters, I use 3D render from artwork concept and consider the volume and impact of the mask project.
I wanted to work at ILM as either a matte painter, or optical printer operator. By the time I grew up, everything went digital. Sure there’s WETA, but it isn’t ILM.
I still have my old VHS copy of this purchased sometime in the late 80's. I love the personal look and feel of these old making-of docs rather than the way they're done today.
I grew up watching the original trilogy on VHS, and they always advertised this documentary. I didn't have FSWtJ, but the thing I remember most about is the muppet at 5:21 when he says"Hello in TV Land!" Thank you uploader, for putting this up. I'm in tears now.
I just seen the Bluray version of the original trilogy, and i must say the special effects till this day are amazing. The did a great job with the resources they had in that time.
I wonder why they don't simply re-record the opening song from this clip; I know the masters are gone forever (or so they say), but certainly the sheet music still exists somewhere? Definitely one of the best songs in all of Star Wars (at the very least, the best of the Jabba songs).
Yes, check out Ebay or used CD stores, etc. and look for the box set STAR WARS TRILOGY released in 1993. 4 CDS in all. Disc 4 has the song: "Lapti Nek".
You know see all the work these artists put into these puppets depresses me even more the the Original cuts of these movies still aren't legally available.
I love the crates scene where the puppets pack themselves for England. "Hey, anyone know what the in-flight movie is? Oh, I hope it's rated - ARRAAH!" XD
Lapti Nek was much better tune than Jedi Rocks! I was always confused as to why unnecessary CGI was used for Snootles, desert rocks, extra dew backs, sarlaac beaks, windows in Bespin city etc yet things like Ewok suit zips, Ewok mouths, Falcon Matte Lines, Rancor back projection was left untouched.
I wish I could go back in time and visit that creature shop. It'd be a trip. In the movie we just get a couple glimpses of aliens like Amanaman and Loje Nella, and we don't get to see Cane Addiss or Sic-Six at all. But there they are in that shop, big as life and twice as ugly. I'd love to get a selfie with them.
Really wish I could put it in my playlist... It's known as the Max Rebo Band Song and was part of the ROtJ soundtrack. It plays at Jabba's palace after the thermal detonator scene, and during the sail barge flight scene. Unfortunately the track has never been officially released and is possibly lost at this point. :( This video here is unfortunately contains the most intact copy of the song available to the public outside of the clips heard in the film.
The guy who stood in for Jabba for the first movie is Declan Mulholland. He played one of Robin Hood's robbers in "Time Bandits", which also starred Kenny Baker .(R2-D2)
😢😢😢 the jabba the hutt puppet was thrown into the trash after production ended 😣😣😣 3 months to build and 1/2 a million $$$ and that's where he ended up...
there was so much more art and creativity in the puppets than in cgi which produced digital vomit if anything - which also partly explains the superiority of the first trilogy.
I would love to see puppets make their way back into a Lucasfilm. I admire Lucas for pushing cgi in terms of what it's capable of doing. The cgi insertion of Jabba probably wasn't necessary, but you can see that it was to prove that technology can make our wildest dreams come true. That is to say, our imaginations are the only real limit. Still though, I miss the puppets. They're so darn cute!
I don't think it is the same arrangement as in the film, nor is it the English version in the making of, but the original song "sung" in Jedi is on the original soundtrack... the 80's version. Not the newer CD releases or the Special Edition soundtracks. The track is called Lapti Nek (by Jabba's Palace Band). If that is the song you are looking for.
Actually, this is another. The one we see here is Wam Lufba, and the horrible CGI singer of the same Yuzzum species is called Joh Yowsa. Wam can still be seen behind C-3PO in some shots.
@@AyanKhan-og3sd I'm sorry. I was mistaken. I confused a behind the scenes picture with the actual movie, and I thought we would see him. Sorry again for misleading you !

There's also a decent assembly of many of the components of the song taken from the films and this video that I found. It's also poor quality, but yeah, you can easily find it by googling: "Galactic Dance Blast [mono]" I just really wish this song had been officially released, I'm sure the real full thing in HiFi stereo is awesome. :P
i hear you , virtually no one born berfore 1990 actually thought well of the prequels and they were considered quite dissappointing granted it does help to see all 6 in order with a large pack of crisps and bottle of bourbon to get the full effect as MUCH AS I AM STILL FAN OF THE SERIES!!
Okay, this is the first time I've seen the deleted Jabba scene with dialogue. I thought the Greedo scene was filmed as a replacement for this but the stand in actor still mentions Han frying "poor Greedo". How might things have gone down differently then had this scene been there, to stay, back in '77?
The Originals are every thing I love about filmmaking and the prequels are everything I hate about filmmaking It's funny because there both Star Wars... ironic.

Thanks to all those puppeteers ideas that made those characters in the film possible since, CGI affect technologies are non-existance back in the days. The original Max Rebo Band Song! I haven't heard that in at least 10 years..damn special editions
The remastered release are slap in the face to these men and women who created these great puppets
If it's Lapti Nek you are referring to, they added 2 CGI characters, only one of them replacing a former puppet.
I can’t imagine their reaction all the hard work they have done gone and replaced with cgi
Again, only TWO cgi characters, only ONE replacing a former character. Apparently replacing one puppet with cgi means they were all replaced, right?
