I went to Branson Missouri for several years. 70,s and 80,s with my Grandparents. The place we stayed out on lake shore drive is no longer there. But I remember the Branson from 50 years ago. I remember the resort owner tell me and my Grandfather. Well Branson is having a big surge of tourism. But he told us you watch it soon die off and slot of the motel and theaters being built will go dark and they will soon rot. I remember the tordnoe you talked about my wife and I were there on vacation when it hit. What a mess on the strip. Somewhere I have pictures of of the big mess on highway 76. I've not Bern back to Branson in probably 7 years. But want to get back and see for myself what the years have done to my home away from home. Thank you for the great video makes me sad to all the empty buildings.

That "roller coaster" was an attraction called Skysurfer. It belongs to Extreme Racing and had nothing to do with Celebration City as it opened after the park closed. Celebration City was purchased by Silver Dollar City's parent company due to the previous owners not being able to make the money they wanted to. SDC then made CC their "nighttime" attraction. Once SDC restructured to be open later, it made CC irrelevant so they closed it. Plans were discussed to make the land an aquarium but now that Branson has one, that is no longer the solution. The coasters train was moved to Dollywood, not sold as SDC's parent company owns it as well. The first theater was RFD-TV theater and was going to house the Acrobats of Shanghai in 2019. RFD-TV ended up not holding up their end of the deal so the acrobats left and RFD-TV has been trying to sell the theater. The acrobats then moved into what is now Mickey Gilley's Grand Shanghai Theater but were going to buy it out. Part of the deal was the restaurant (the one in your video) would stay Shindigs as Gilley had left it. The acrobats company closed the restaurant and was going to transform it into an Asian restaurant, thereby breaking the sale contract. Mickey Gilley then came back in to manage the theater but has not reopened the restaurant. The old motel has been closed for almost a decade as the city no longer wants a motel there and is trying to find a buyer to put in retail. Most of the other motels were long terms that were disgusting when it came to health and safety and the city is trying to phase them out.

Acrobats of China * and celebration city was donated to a church organization to commit tax fraud. If you were really from Branson you would know that.

That structure was the Sky Coaster. It was a short lived amusement but was not part of Celebration City. It came in a few years after the demise of Celebration City closed. Most of those old motels have been closed for many years also.

I live right outside Branson and I work in Branson and it's off season right now so it would be hard to tell if it is slow because of covid, I can tell you though that it seems to me that it has been slowing down for years, I know that some places though unfortunately are closed because of the plandemic, that church though I can say is jam packed every Sunday.
That place behind the Queen Ann is full of tweekers

If its off season some of the places are simply closed for the winter. There was a tornado in 2012 that did a lot of damage. Insurances did not pay, the governor did not declare a disaster so they could not get funding to do repairs and simply had to abandoned their places because they could not afford the repairs themselves. And now with covid its been hard on everyone.

We live near Branson and visit many times each year. It is much more upbeat than depicted in this post. Many venues remained open during Covid. Visitors throng the main highway. New homes, condos and apartments are under construction. The Landing, Silver Dollar City, Dicks 5n10 and related areas are at least operational and perhaps thriving. Johnny Morris has reinvested millions into Top of the Rock, Dogwood Canyon and more. The airport and College of the Ozarks add to the mix.
Branson is accessible and, by comparison, inexpensive.

I was in Branson in the summer of 2018. The Fancy Motel was boarded up then. I had stayed there 3 times in the past, and it was clean, quiet, and inexpensive. That was built in the 1950's. In 2018 I saw numerous independent motels closed around Branson. The crowds were much less than in previous years.

Covid put the newer businesses, as well as a lot of older businesses, out before they had a chance to get started. The old Taney Motel is about 25 years old and has been out for a very long time as well as some other old mom and pop motels. They were mostly put out of business because of your big chain hotels that came in.

I noticed this as well when I went in December. I hadn't been down there for at least ten years. I think that Branson, somewhat, has met the same fate as Osage Beach when they constructed the by-pass. The Branson by-pass pretty much goes right to Silver Dollar City as you know. I saw that most of the abandoned properties are right along the main drag, west of U.S. 65. You may have also noticed that the area around Silver Doller City and Branson West has really developed. This is also due to the by-pass.

In a way, Branson sort of reminds me of Vegas in the 70s. The old performers had retired or died off, and was kind of a shell of its former self, until it found its new identity. While Branson certainly won't have the $$$ to do what Vegas did, I think there's definitely a future there to be had as an entertainment center for the region. Not sure what the answer is but it'll just have to adapt to younger generation than it had in past decades.

I have been around Branson sine the 1970s..I hated to see what has happened to Branson and table rock lake area runied by outsider's who made millions on this area then left. Also it's became a haven for the homeless people. If you have 400.00 a week you can stay in converted hotel's...That's why I didn't want it to become a huge tourist attraction... So now here's what I think the city should do...give the owner's 6 months to either open a business or tare it down..if they simply board them up then the city should tare them down and charge the owners....if they can't pay they loose their property... I remember when I was up their in the 1980s and 1990s the 90s were their boom eara.. they had many prominent Stars... Many of these Stars moved away retired or died... Some have been there quite a while like boxcar Willie... For other stars it was simply an investment to make money... Like Dixie stampede which was owned by Dolly Parton and rarely would she ever come I think she may have even sold it off to someone else... She really cares only about Dollywood more than anything... The platters were there for a long time... Ray Stevens left and of course is now dead.. Jim Stafford had a show that lasted quite a while... The promise had ended which was a long running show... But the city allowed investors to come in build structures of any types on the outskirts of town all because of profit.... Money has destroyed that part of the Ozarks... Greed is a horrible thing... People will really never see the beauty of the Ozarks like I did I thank God I lived in the eara I lived in... This allowed me to see the true beauty of the Ozarks plus it was my hometown... It's sad to see your hometown especially those born there who had great memories of coming home from the army or from abroad to a home cooked meal and enjoying the old downtown Branson area on Christmas Eve... In the beginning you could leave your car door open while visiting Branson... Now there is a lot of crime there a lot of addiction and drug addicts... you can still see remnants of places where investors were going to build but decided to wait or back out because of 9/11 then the recession now the covid...and the worst thing to ever hit Branson was timeshare... It allowed investors to become very rich... Outsiders don't care about the local area and never will...So when the economy starts booming again.... An outsiders come to your small town that is tucked away in the beautiful hillside of the mountains... And they want to start building shows and rides and theaters I would highly not recommend it and fight it with everything you have... What do I believe holds in the future for Branson I say Branson will become a ghost town completely within the next 30 years

So, I grew up in St. L and when I was a kid, the only thing in Branson, MO was Silver Dollar City, a pretty grim, "Western styled theme park" which I remember visiting with my family. So occasionally, throughout the 90s, I'd be talking to my mom on the phone, I lived on the east coast and she was still in St. L and she'd mention "Oh! You know they've really built up Branson, Missouri. They have all kinds of theaters there and Andy Williams even has a theater there and there are all these big stars performing there and now people come from all over to see the shows. It's like Las Vegas." Then, I remember the Simpson's joke about "They took Nick at Nite and made it a town." So, I would like to know: Is Branson MO Completely over? Are there no more theaters there now (2022)? Did the pandemic kill it or was it already dying? Is all the show biz completely gone?

All the abandoned motels are from being shut down by bad tenants. Cause they are extended stay motels. Bransons population is a little over 10,000, and 2,500 of those people are living in motels. That's because we give all of housing space to big corporations and time share. It's an extremely horrible place to live and vacationers think we live better lives than we actually do.

Branson has been in a steady decline for years and it is doomed unless and until the Presley and Herschend families are out of local politics. The town has possibilities as an attraction but it refuses to change and cater to the changing tastes of the current generations of travelers.

Wow-looks like the motels were cheaply built. Anyway-who goes to Branson anymore? The people in their 70s (in the 1980s) are all gone now, so what is the attraction for young people? Looks like this place is pretty much dead.

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is way more fun to visit than Branson, now.

Well, Gary, of course. EVERY problem in the United States is the democrats fault... Bwah-ha-haaa....what a doofus. Sheesh, so that's the easy answer...blame a complicated issue that has developed over a period of many years that was caused by many different factors on one group of people. Typical answer by people who want an easy answer and not actually THINK about what causes problems like this to happen, and prefer to cast blame so they can feel better about themselves thinking that they themselves are not part of the problem and someone else is.
