Hebrews 9:27-28 states, "And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him".

    1 Corinthians 15
    The Resurrection of the Dead
12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.

      @plantedbythewaters2813 Thank you & that’s a great question.
This going to be a lot, but I think this will help you see the truth.
In the Gospels, the idea that Jesus took on the wrath of God is primarily illustrated through the accounts of His suffering, crucifixion, and the words He spoke during those moments. Although the Gospels don't explicitly use the term "wrath," they highlight Jesus' role as the suffering servant who bears the consequences of humanity's sin. Consider these passages:
      1. **Matthew 26:39**:
      - "And going a little farther, he fell on his face and prayed, saying, 'My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.'"
      - The "cup" Jesus refers to is often understood as the cup of God's wrath (see Psalm 75:8, Isaiah 51:17), symbolizing the judgment He was about to endure on the cross.
      2. **Matthew 27:46** (also Mark 15:34):
      - "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, 'Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?' that is, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?'"
      - This cry from the cross reflects Jesus bearing the weight of sin and experiencing the separation from God that sin causes, which is often interpreted as Him taking on God's wrath.
      3. **John 1:29**:
      - "The next day he [John the Baptist] saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, 'Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'"
      - Referring to Jesus as the "Lamb of God" evokes the imagery of sacrificial lambs offered to atone for sin, implying that Jesus would bear the judgment for sin.
      4. **John 3:14-16**:
      - "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
      - This passage emphasizes that Jesus being "lifted up" (on the cross) was necessary for salvation, suggesting that He bore the penalty of sin, which includes God's wrath.
      5. **Luke 22:42**:
      - "saying, 'Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.'"
      - Similar to Matthew, Jesus speaks of the "cup," often seen as a metaphor for the divine judgment He was about to endure.
      6. **Mark 10:45**:
      - "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
      - Here, Jesus describes His mission as giving His life as a ransom, a payment to deliver others, implying that He would take upon Himself the consequences due to others.
These Gospel passages depict Jesus as the one who willingly takes on the judgment for sin, a concept often understood in theological terms as bearing God's wrath on behalf of humanity.
Additional New Testament verses reinforce this idea:
      1. **Romans 5:8-9**:
      - "But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God."
      2. **Ephesians 2:3-5**:
      - "Among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved."
      3. **Colossians 2:13-14**:
      - "And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross."
      4. **Hebrews 2:17**:
      - "Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people."
      5. **Hebrews 9:28**:
      - "So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him."
      6. **Revelation 14:10** (while not directly about Jesus, it contrasts with the fate of those who reject God):
      - "He also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb."
The concept that Jesus took the full wrath of God on behalf of sinners is rooted in several other New Testament passages, though not explicitly stated in those exact words:
      1. **Isaiah 53:4-5** (Prophecy about the Messiah):
      - "Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed."
      2. **Romans 3:24-25**:
      - "and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins."
      - The term *propitiation* refers to the appeasement of God’s wrath through a sacrificial offering, indicating that Jesus took on God’s wrath to satisfy divine justice.
      3. **2 Corinthians 5:21**:
      - "For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
      4. **Galatians 3:13**:
      - "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us-for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.'"
      5. **1 Peter 2:24**:
      - "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed."
      6. **1 John 2:2**:
      - "He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world."
These verses collectively support the theological belief that Jesus bore the wrath of God as a substitute for sinners, satisfying God’s justice and enabling reconciliation between God and humanity.

Thanks, brother, for your response, I appreciate you taking the time!
So, let’s look at the very first verse on your list, Matthew 26:39. The cup you said refers to Gods wrath. But, if I asked you the question; Do you as a born again believer ever have to drink of the cup? You would most likely answer, no, Jesus drank the cup for me. But, you would be wrong! To understand why consider these verses in Matthew.
But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”
They said to Him, “We are able.”
So He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.”
      Matthew 20:22-23
So, from this verse we clearly see that the “cup” Jesus is referring to cannot be a cup of wrath. Why?
For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 1 Thessalonians 5:9
What is the “cup” then, but, a cup of suffering. We as believers are not promised wrath but rather trials, tribulations, hardships and overall sufferings.
The thing I hate the most about penal substitutionary theory is that it places the responsibility of the horrible acts of cruelty and wickedness that man committed upon the Father. Though, the Father knew this would happen and allowed this to happen. He did not pour out His wrath upon His Son.
      Who’s hour was it?
Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
      Luke 22:52-53
Jesus, said the hour belonged to the power of darkness.

      @plantedbythewaters2813
Thank you, brother, for your thoughtful response and for taking the time to engage with the Scriptures. I can see that you’re passionate about understanding the truth, and I respect that greatly.
You brought up a significant point regarding the interpretation of the "cup" that Jesus referred to in Matthew 26:39 and its connection to suffering rather than wrath. Let’s delve into this further.
Firstly, it's important to acknowledge that Scripture often uses metaphors and symbols that carry multiple layers of meaning. The "cup" in biblical literature often symbolizes God's judgment or wrath (e.g., Psalm 75:8, Isaiah 51:17), but it can also represent suffering and trials (as seen in the verses you mentioned, Matthew 20:22-23). Jesus' use of the "cup" in Matthew 26:39 could indeed encapsulate both ideas-God's wrath and the suffering that Jesus would endure on the cross.
Regarding the point that Jesus said His disciples would indeed drink from His cup (Matthew 20:22-23), you are correct that this indicates believers share in Christ's sufferings. However, this does not necessarily exclude the idea of Jesus bearing God's wrath on the cross. Theologically, it's understood that while Jesus bore the full penalty of sin (including God’s wrath), believers are called to share in His sufferings as part of their discipleship and sanctification (Philippians 3:10, 1 Peter 4:12-13).
As for 1 Thessalonians 5:9, which states that God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation, this is true and consistent with the view that Christ bore the wrath of God in our place. Because Jesus took on the wrath that was due to us, we, as believers, are not destined for God’s wrath but for salvation.
You also mentioned Luke 22:52-53, where Jesus says, "But this is your hour, and the power of darkness." This statement emphasizes that the crucifixion was indeed a time when the forces of evil were permitted to act against Jesus. However, this doesn’t negate the idea that Jesus' death was also a fulfillment of God’s plan to address the problem of sin and satisfy divine justice (Acts 2:23, Isaiah 53:10).
Lastly, regarding penal substitutionary atonement, I understand your concern about it potentially portraying the Father in a negative light. It’s crucial to remember that the doctrine is rooted in the idea that God’s justice and love are perfectly harmonious. The Father did not delight in pouring out wrath on the Son, but in His love, He provided a way for justice to be satisfied while also offering salvation to sinners (Romans 3:25-26). The suffering Jesus endured, while certainly caused by human wickedness, was also part of God’s redemptive plan, which Jesus willingly accepted out of love for us (John 10:17-18).
I appreciate this discussion, and I believe it’s important that we continue to search the Scriptures together and seek the truth with humility and love. Let me know your thoughts!

This "good person test" is kind of childish and immature and is not that great. The point the man is making on the microphone is valid in that just because I've smoked a cigarette doesn't mean I'm a smoker, it means I've done it before but it doesn't make me an actual smoker. Just because I've roofed a house it doesn't make me a roofer I've just done it before but I don't do it or know it like an actual professional would. Just because I've built and framed things with two by fours it doesn't mean that I'm a carpenter. Just because I've stolen something before it doesn't make me a thief it just means that I've stolen something before. A thief is someone who regularly does this and maybe where you dome this before or used to do it maybe you ate no longer that person anymore. I just came from a church of very immature Christians who were adults and were married and had kids and houses but were still very immature people according to the faith and they would use this s scripted argument like milk instead of meat because they haven't fully grown in the faith. Jesus did die on the cross but death in the cross and living in the next life is actual life and we are now living in death and are essentially dead or already dead so yes Jesus lives and is alive although yes he did die on the cross and his body was dead and lifeless. What you have hear is an overly critical guy possibly anti christ spirit debating an immature Christian with immature questions and talking points meant for children and not adults who have lived out very colorful and detailed lives in the faith.

If you murderer one time 10 years ago, you are still a murderer. Comparing the moral law, 10 commandments, to roofing a house isn’t a good analogy. Regardless if you commit a sin 10 yrs ago or today, you’re a sinner and need to ask God for mercy. He will forgive you, if you truly believe that Jesus died for our sins. We are all sinners.
