  • In this video me and my friend Denis go on a week-long adventure to Arkhangelsk region, also known as Pomorie, to explore authentic areas of White Sea. We explore 2 major cities of the region (Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk), a number of towns and villages and talk to local people. Check timecodes below to see more detailed description of the video's content:
00:00 - Welcome to the land of Pomors
00:20 - Celebrating New Year in a Russian passenger train with random people
05:16 - Exploring Arkhangelsk - the capital of Pomorie
10:04 - Local man shows around his freezing wooden barrack
14:44 - Understanding Pomor architecture (Malyye Korely openair museum)
16:28 - The food of Pomors
16:39 - New Year vibes in Arkhagelsk and my opinion about the city
17:44 - Severodvinsk - the homeland of nuclear submarines
20:34 - Hitchhiking across Northern nowhere during frost hit
22:16 - The town of Onega and our Soviet hotel!
23:36 - Journey to wooden churches of Vorzogory (400 years old!)
28:08 - Cheap Russian food and hotel review
    29:52 - Hitchhiking to Plesetsk.
30:29 - Barely inhabited village of Syr'ya and its wooden church
31:38 - Russia's tallest wooden church (built in 1651) in Piyala
    32:54 - Conclusions (outro)
    Enjoy!

I am from Pomor'e myself, thank you very much for the video, for 4 years I went to the south of Russia to Rostov-on-Don to get an education, I did not even imagine how much I would miss, such videos cause awe and pleasant sadness, very soon I will return to my land, thank you for this piece of something warm and native ❤️

10 years ago today, it was NYE and I was an Aussie on a Russian train from Moscow to Yekaterinburg. I met so many awesome people in Russia and did so many different things in my months long visit. I had never seen snow before either and was very unprepared for the cold. Still is my best holiday ever and I really want to visit again one day, along with a few extra family members.

Reminds me of Northern Minnesota :) I love your videos. Cheers from the USA. The Russian people seem very warm and friendly, unlike what you hear about on the news from the USA and western Europe. I hope we can all be friends one day.

So, there is a region in Russia called Pomorie, there's Bulgarian seaside town called Pomorie and there is also Polish region known as Pomorze. All three mean the same thing, literally "by the sea". Interesting.

Slavic unity hehe. I'd add "Primorie" (Maritime Territory) in the Fad East of Russia with the capital in Vladivostok. Means "near/by the sea".

pretty basic stuff. however when you hear an indian speak the same words as you speak in the baltics, words that mean the same thing in both super distant countries-its a bit more suprising. the older the language the further away you can find it

Also, the wooden church; unbelievable how old it is and how tall for its' age!

It's wild to me (Canadian ), seeing people sleeping like that in the train, I can't imagine trying to sleep like that -- granted if it means saving a fortune doing that vs an airplane, it makes sense.
I can honestly say I would not expect fireworks in rural Russia, looks like you had a great time and you're not even hungover! hahah.

Thanks for showing parts of Russia like this. I have been fascinated by Russia, how things look, the history behind these places and regions and just how different things are for many years now. It's hard to think of buildings here being over 400 years old when my country (Australia) only properly started real development a little over 220 years ago.
I would love to visit places you have shown on your channel in Russia, but I will have to wait to see what the future holds.

This region has very unexpected historical connection to Australia. This land is so far from everything happening, it's probably never been touched by war until Russian Civil war broke out. And intervening in this region was British brigade with Australian unit in it. So Australians were part of probably the only force that ever invaded these lands. (Just a historical anecdote from over a century ago)

      On the one hand
      Genocidal dictators

The rotating log in the village was used to pull buckets of water out of the well. It was missing the chain+bucket.

A great insight to northern Russia, but I could never live in those cities nor those villages, a 5000 to 10,000 population with all the ammenities is more acceptible to me. I have no problem living a wooden house as my 42,000 population has only 2 high rise apartment buildings, the rest are single dwelling wooden and sometimes brick in Timmins Ontario Canada. It's so different to what I know and where I grew-up and still living at, we are a mining (gold) and base metal area, and the logging area too!

Thank you for the video, because every winter there are only videos about Yakutsk (all the same thumbnail) and I'm tired of it

You have the most interesting adventures. As a desert rat, I felt cold for the entire video.
