      If my information is correct- the black horses are especially bred in Ireland. The heavy drum horses are Shires while the Winsor Greys are Cleveland Bay a coach horse breed almost extinct. The horse are kept in the royal stables, in summer they have a holiday in the country and when retired they go to a special retirement home / stables.

      We've pretty much been producing the same parade since 1648 so we've had plenty of practice! We're very proud of our historic pageantry and what it represents. When they're not riding horses the troops are ordinary combat soldiers, serving at home and overseas. Glad you enjoyed the spectacle.

      King Charles was a very accomplished Polo player so riding one handed is pardon the puns “ child’s play “ this is the same for prince William . Both are highly experienced and skilled horsemen, its only because King Charles sustained a heck a lot off injuries from polo that he stopped playing. Besides he has ridden various horses when he was the prince off wales behind our late Queen Elizabeth ll for several years in a row. 😂 it was lovely to see Queen Camilla and Catherine princes of wales sitting together being there first tripping of the colour not being up in the offices of white Hall with the children. When the guards saw the Queen and Catherine they had a real sense off pride to there marching 😊 as always the music choices were spot on for the occasion. So proud to be British, thank you . 😊

    i was worried when i heard that Charles was going to be RIDING in the Trooping the Colours parade. I remember when he was a young man and playing polo on a hot day in a hot state in the USA and collapsed from heat stroke. He passed out.....the security men didn't know what to do.....the fastest way to bring down a man's temperature in that situation it to put an ice pack on the testes, but security couldn't have paramedics rummaging around you know where in public, so they made do with putting the pack on the back on the back of his neck and whisked him away in an ambulance. It was the closest Charles has come to death (that we know of) (bet he was hoping everyone had forgotten about that incident.) All the best to ALL of the Troops and their families!

    Interesting, reading comments from Americans. You fought to gain independence, you're not part of the Commonwealth. As an Australian I find it a little strange...

    • @sidpheasant7585
      @sidpheasant7585 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm a Brit, so you don't have to read what I say... but that "fight" had its downsides. If you watch "Who do you think you are?" (genealogy show), you will find several modern-day Americans who discover with a kind of "horror" that their ancestors were "Loyalists" (i.e. fought on the side of the King, alongside troops that were often German). All these centuries later that is still something that can bring shame, and the roughly-buried dead of that side are scarcely remembered, let alone commemorated.
      But recall that all they really tried to do was keep things sort-of the same. So in that sense they truly were "loyal". It could have been you or me at that time in that situation.
      The imperial French interfered in that conflict as it suited them, but right from the off it was clear that, if the "rebels" won that would be worse for the native Americans, and less good for anti-slavery, and better for that "spirit of American enterprise" (and land expansion) that has never been lost from that time to this. The motivations were not as clear and noble as the oft-rewritten history has made them out to be. As an Australian you will know that the authorities in Britain (maybe surprisingly given our modern-day cynicism) were often trying to rein in the excesses of homegrown authorities Down Under, and rather similar things applied in the US.
      The Founding Fathers of the USA were a mixed bunch. As late as June 1775, Thomas Jefferson said that he would "rather be in dependence on Great Britain, properly limited, than on any nation upon earth, or than on no nation." And indeed Jefferson lived in London for 5 weeks in 1786 (not liking the architecture, but loving many aspects), though he was in France in 1787. John Adams was the Ambassador in London back then. The architecture in the early USA that Jefferson was sort of alluding to between the lives was HEAVILY influenced by that well known organisation formally associated with building things - their number extended to 16% of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and 33% of the signatories of the Constitution. I don't say that is the worse thing in the world, but it is a fact that ties between government and people were distorted by those very strong fraternal ties veiled in some secrecy.

    • @joanneburford6364
      @joanneburford6364 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sidpheasant7585 ok as you are a Brit and a bit of a history buff, I'll take your word for the history. I just find it contradictory that Americans attach themselves to something they fought against. As you know Australians had a less confrontational transition to independence, still utilising the Westminster system, which many of us believe works well. Aussies have a natural affiliation with the British, extending past the political. The yanks, not so much, choosing as and when to align.

    I remember joining the Welsh Guards as a musician many years ago. All I ever wanted was to play (bass trombone at the time, now it would be saxophone) at Trooping The Colour, specifically on horseback. That’s when I realised the trombonists were nearly always on foot and made up the front line - for obvious reasons.
    I’d sell my soul to go back to that time or to be able to play for HM King Charles III. Unfortunately, now I’m 49 and a left leg amputee. Marching is currently impossible.

    Why is Trooping the Colour called Trooping the Colour?
    It was important that these flags were clear and bright because they acted as a rallying point in battle. But in order for soldiers - or troops - to recognize these "colours," they had to be displayed regularly before battle. This process became known as "trooping," hence the name of the ceremony.
