Out of all your rat/mice traps my preference is the rolling log type. Only one moving part, simple to construct & some peanut butter as bait. Add some mineral oil at the bottom of the bucket/container & the rodent will not be able to jump out (i think?).

  • @DaleStLouis-xb5mx

The sensor could be a few inches in from the end, might catch more rats if they are skittish about going all the way out. Maybe use peanut butter (or glue) to stick some sunflower seeds to the plank. Or devise a bait holder that won't dump.

    • @trevhib
      @trevhib 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The sensor is towards the end of the plank for a reason. If it wasn't, the trap would go off with the rat far closer to the rim of the bucket, giving it a much better chance to grab on as the trap deploys.

    • @h8GW

I think the design could be improved by making it longer and putting the sensor a couple of inches before the end. Then you could stick some peanut butter and seeds to the end, and the rat would trip the sensor before it could eat the bait, so that the bait is still there to catch another rat. Also what's the point of having it tapered towards the end? Surely the rat would feel safer and hence more likely to walk on the plank if it is wider.

  • @notsosilentmajority1

What would you do with a barrel full of angry rats in the morning? Also, the bait disappears after each catch. How would you catch more than one rat? There needs to be a platform that fits into the barrel with a very slippery funnel in the center right beneath the plank so that no previously-caught rat is visible to a new arrival, and also to prevent them jumping out.

You know how they've surrounded the Empire State Building's observation deck with curved wire pointing inward. I'm wondering if something like that would stop rats from jumping. The idea of spraying oily substance around the top - or petroleum jelly - would work

    Traps for catalytic
Converter thieves. A friend has a motion detector without bulbs. When it goes off one set of wires turns on lamps in the house. The other turns on a 24v transformer wired to a lawn sprinkler valve that turns on tapered hose nozzles aimed under their cars.

Oh my! I can't even imagine living in an area where that happens! I've never even had my package taken and they leave it just a few feet from the public sidewalk. Another friend was away when a large package was put on his front door - he lives on a very busy road. Still sitting there when he got home a week later.

If you put a small amount of water at the bottom, they won’t drown, but it will prevent them from jumping very high at all

Shawn, what it you put a thin layer of peanut oil in the bottom of the barrel? Like a quarter of an inch thick.. That could make it too slippery to jump out and maybe also help attract them. I'd love to see that in action!

Vaseline smeared around the top 6" of the barrel will keep them from escaping. Axle grease would work too, but smells pretty strong to rats.

How deep of water do you need to drown them, especially if you get many in one night. Wish you showed how you attached the ramp too. Getting ready to set mine up.

Put a block of foam rubber in the bottom so the rat doesn't have a firm surface to just from.

You should glue the seeds to the platform so they don't fall when the platform tips.

Cattle feed in the bottom of the barrel smells so strongly the rats will enter the barrel searching for it. You dont even need a trap plate.

How about a cover so that the top of the barrel seems flat. When the platform springs back it would block the possibility of jumping out.

What is an effective way to catch mice that are Inbetween floors. I don’t know the word but like In the space between 2 Rooms on top of each other? Does something like the slip and slide on the upper room work? My issue is that the mices found a wasp nest in those in between space and the eat now from it and I’m worried they gonna explode in numbers soon. I live in a region where mice transmit a lethal illness so I’d like to get rid of them asap..

If you're wanting this kind of thing to be a live-catch trap, why not put peanut/canola oil or something in the bottom so they can't grip the walls/lips of the bucket?

Split one side of a length of flexible hose and attach it to the rim. A rat won't be able to grasp the rim when it jumps up.
