Hey from Georgia Kent and Shannon thanks so much for your channel and for sharing your faith the way you do sometimes I watch your videos all day 😁 I'm in the house alot such a blessing God bless you all 😁
At 73 I'm just learning to cook. I've been a big fan of shrimp and grits for a long ,long time. So I watched this video about 35 times and tried it. My wife (who hates grits ) loved it. And I must say ,it rivals the best I've ever eaten. Thanks Kent and Shannon
To those who don’t know Grits is a huge part of black culture and coming from a black man Cowboy Kent did a fantastic job with the shrimp and grits everything was so on point and me and my family just watched and our mouths are watering as I type... Great content Uncle Kent 💯👌🏽
Grits is not necessarily a Black thing. In fact white people in the South love grits just as much. Whether it's grits, or polenta. It's all ground corn. Just grounded different. I think if people just knew what it was then, there would not be so much confusion. All through the south, I find grits is on the breakfast menu. Most northeners like cream of wheat, because it's what most grew up with.in my home my mom cooked the slow cooked grits, not the instant grits. I never had the instant till I was an adult. Funny how I see some people add sugar and milk, my mom, my grandmothers would of fainted. I say to each his or her own. I'm still learning. Growing up my mother wanted us to have a good breakfast that would hold us till lunchtime. Both my parents worked but going to school, if my mom had to be at work before we caught the bus, we would wake to grits still hot on the stove, with whatever meat she had fixed, there was biscuits. In the winter hot cocoa. She would leave about six fifteen. Now there's cold cereal, toast not many get to eat a hot breakfast anymore. The weekends was the only time we had cereal. It's funny how some up north can't even get certain kinds of flour. So I guess it is possible they never had grits. True most southerners know about grits. I didn't say this to argue or disagree. But every white house hold I know in the South ate grits, they wasn't just for breakfast either. They was reasonable, most found it a way to feed their family and it was filling. I laugh when I hear people say they don't like grits. I ask if they love corn. They get it. Bless you and your family. I've eaten grits all of my life. Especially on cold mornings, they warm me up. They are good. 🙂✌️💖🖖🙏. Vee, Andrew and Family.

We were moving from Oregon to Fla when I was 18 once we got in fla dad stopped for breakfast. I dont remember what mom orderd but it came with a bowl of grits, she put sugar and milk on them when the waitress came back she picked up the bowl of grits took them away and brought another bowl and put butter salt and pepper on them she then told mom that's how you eat grit.
I never ate grits until I was in the navy. I was driving from New Mexico to Key West with my brother as we both headed to training. We stopped in a little Mom n Pop restaurant and the waitress, a really sweet black lady, asked me if I wanted grits. I asked her, What’s a grit? I fell in love with her immediately because she bent over the counter and kissed me on the forehead and said, “You poor child. If your mama didn’t feed you grits, you had a deprived childhood!” In fairness, my mom fed us cornmeal mush pretty often so I wasn’t deprived too bad! Blessings y’all!
@@DDL2728 yeah, she was super nice and about 50 years my senior. She wanted to know all about New Mexico, what we ate, if we still fought the Indians. We both knew little of each other’s cultures and asked lots of questions. She’s gonna be with me for a lot longer than I imagine she lived. But that’s how a little kindness can affect a life for much longer than we think.
Kent, I'm from SC and I'd be glad to do a throw down on grit cooking. I make the best ones anyone has had in my family of grit haters. I stand behind that. Fresh raw stone ground grits. Lots of cream, some water and a bunch of white cheddar...with some garlic, salt and white pepper. Plus a low and slow for hours and hours. Silk on the throat and tongue. This is the one and only thing that I am sure of that beats the best. LOL How's about it? I throw down the gauntlet. LOL Of course we won't get to but I'd sure love to tell you the right way to do them. LOL
Hello to Kent and Shannon from Maine!!!! I tried your Chili and added some of your red river mesquite seasoning OMG it is my wife's go to recipe. We love watching your videos thanks for being real!
Sorry about your gall bladder Kent. Hope you are felling better. My dad (who was born not far from you there) taught me about the best way to serve grits a long time ago. You make your eggs over easy (along with the bacon, sausage, home fries etc...) Then you eat the grits with the over easy eggs and biscuits) He learned that down in Savannah during his AF flyin days. Also known as "The Uncle Hersbel's Breakfast" at ....Cracker Barrel
Found a old BSR 10 in skillet that we had left in the garage. Clean it with baking soda and then coarse salt. Like new now with a mirror-like finish on the cooking surface. Much better than my Lodge. Love shrimp & grits. Thanks for the recipe.

Kent,I cannot believe you didn't give me a holler before you cooked this.Cheese Grits have been just about my favorite food since I was a toddler. I'm 64 now.Same for shrimp. Good stuff, man.
Sooooo good!!!! Southern gal here, and the only thing I'd add is, after sautéing the veggies halfway in drippings, add the butter; sprinkle all with flour and cook just long enough to remove raw taste, then slowly add the broth, stirring. Makes a lump-free roux, and eliminates you stove standing and dirty pot cleanup!! Good job Kent. Will have to play catch-up to find out about those adorable puppies(grown, by now).
Great job on shrimp and grits. I can’t wait to try them. I am about 450 miles downstream on the red river , on the Texas Louisiana line. So I’m southern. I’ve eaten grits 2-3 times a week all my life and the shrimp do take um to another level. I love shrimp and grits but I’ve never had them like you cook them. It looks so good. Keep up the good work.

There's a little place here that had a booth at the local farmer's market and would do crepes, grits, and a few other breakfast items. Well, one day a friend of mine asked if they could combine grits with some of the crepe ingredients for her - things like bacon pieces, onions, collard bits, shredded cheese, that sort of thing. Well, it got so popular that they ended up adding this "grits bowl" to their regular menu!

I received you seasoning and my cook book...love them both used your seasoning in my scrambled eggs this morning yummm I am gonna use that on everything
Polenta, as you can probably guess from the color, is made from yellow corn, while grits are normally made from white corn (or hominy). Basically both are just course ground corn kernels with the hulls removed, fine ground corn kernels is corn meal.
Wow! Texas Shrimp & Grits. Just in time, to use that 2lb bag of shrimp cleaning out the Freezer before they turn the power out on us. Your recipe's, are always so good, and your personality always lift's a persons spirits. Though sometimes life get's pretty hard, seeing what is coming, and going thru this world all alone.
Hehe, of all USA cooking channels I watch two. Townsends 18th Century Cooking, to understand WHERE it came from. And Kent Rollins, to see where it came TO =) In all honesty, it's a bit difficult to repeat all your recipes, because here in Russia we do not have the whole assortment of thingies you cook, mostly because historically we have quite a different approach to cuisine, but hey, with some replacements it's still nice and dandy =)
Respect Cowboy, all the way from Hungary (appreciate your goulasch recipe, amazing, I swear It Is). I am sorry to hear that you have been under the weather - I hope that the removal of your gall bladder keeps you happy and healthy for many, many years to come. Please do take care of yourself! You help me to feel better, even amid sadness.
Kent, oddly enough I made Shrimp and Grits for my wife and daughter for Mother's Day. Not your recipe (you hadn't published it yet) but one thing we had in common besides shrimp was Carolina Grits from beautiful downtown Roxboro, NC, just down the road from me. Going to try yours next. Nice job and keep up the cooking.
One of the pleasures of cooking is trying new things. As a resident of Maine I am sad to say - never had grits! That ends this weekend! Now being in Maine, SHRIMP we have!!! Here we go! TY Kent!
Georgia boy born and raised here: Mr. Rollins *NOBODY* should blame you for disliking "grits" if all you have ever had was Instant grits it's no wonder you don't care for them. It ain't the same. In the Southeast, instant grits are what you feed somebody you don't particularly care when you don't want to seem rude by turning them away outright. My grandmother called them and instant mashed potatoes "the height of laziness" and wouldn't allow them in her house.
Doggone this sounds great - got too excited and licked my computer screen but all it tasted like was dust. We love these videos and are still grateful for the time Kent took some time to be our guest on the podcast. The best to you both.
That's an interesting recipe. I've eaten Shrimp 'n' Grits maybe twice. I'm not a fan of gravy. It's supposed to be a new dish served in the SOUTH. I never heard of it until the year 2000. I've eaten grits all my life. I'm glad that you cooked them 20 minutes because you have good results then. My parents used to find Grits Mills to get them freshly ground and YEP, I'm from South Carolina :) We ate grits with boiled weenies and fried cut-squared potatoes and NO we don't call them "homefries" Mama would fill the plate with Grits and put something to the side. :) YUMMY!!
Kent, Got your email blast about appearances yesterday, saw you were going to be at Lehman's in Kidron, OH in July. Shot them an email last night and received a reply this morning. Went online to order tickets...SOLD OUT! Congratulations, you not only have Louisiana cooking fans, but now the Amish. Thanks to you and Shannon for another great "cowboy" spin on a Cajun staple.
The tip on cutting the lemon is great! A friend talked me into trying grits (didn't get grits in Vermont at that time) from a buffet in Florida and they were disgusting. I got breakfast in an airport in Atlanta and there was grits in the bag. I was still hungry, so I tried them. Threw in some more butter and they were delicious!
Shannon, My son is at my home on a visit from his group home for a few days.....and he was so excited to see Kent wearing the same apron that he got from yinz store for his birthday. We love shrimp and grits. I have all the items, he wants to make it just like Kent, so that is on the menu for tomorrow. Thank you for this video! It was perfect timing. As always, I thank yinz for being there and giving my son a hobby/interest in his life.
I knew this was one I'd like - I've had shrimp with cheesy polenta, which is basically the same dish with an Italian accent. Good thing I'm watching this while the wife is preparing dinner, because I KNOW I'll be feeling hungry by the time this video ends!

One of our favorite dishes. No idea how many variations we have . Green chilies sound good . Try them with Tasso and coffee gravy . Thanks for the video. Y’all have a blessed day
Wonderful episode, cooking from the heart is best. The puppies are precious and beautiful. Thank you and God bless you and Shannon.
I received you seasoning and my cook book...love them both
used your seasoning in my scrambled eggs this morning
yummm
I am gonna use that on everything
Love Shrimp and Grits! mmm mmm good!
Looks like some tasty grits and shrimp. Good history lesson on the origin of grits.
I'm just drooling over this. And those cheese grits? Yum! I could eat just a bowl of those.
Love the puppies. Thanks for being so real.
I love shrimp and cheese grits, you did it right now👍
Thanks again.
And this old vet tips his hat to you, Shannon and the pups. You are the BEST!
Hehe, of all USA cooking channels I watch two. Townsends 18th Century Cooking, to understand WHERE it came from. And Kent Rollins, to see where it came TO =)
In all honesty, it's a bit difficult to repeat all your recipes, because here in Russia we do not have the whole assortment of thingies you cook, mostly because historically we have quite a different approach to cuisine, but hey, with some replacements it's still nice and dandy =)
Respect Cowboy, all the way from Hungary (appreciate your goulasch recipe, amazing, I swear It Is). Would love to see you make ratatouille, either Hungarian or Red River Ranch style - don’t be shy with the Original Seasoning, rain it Well. As always, I tip my hat to all the trusted tail wagging taste-testers, God bless every and one of them. Keep up the good work, Champ, keep people feeling like uuuu-uuh. See you on the ratatouille trail!
Love your work, y’all. Kent your grits look amazing
Thanks so much
Love it. I live in SC and grits is a staple for all of us. Great job!!
I am sorry to hear that you have been under the weather - I hope that the removal of your gall bladder keeps you happy and healthy for many, many years to come. Please do take care of yourself! You help me to feel better, even amid sadness.
Normally I get very hungry watching Kent, but today I ate pizza while watching. Still, it looks incredible.
You are a funky team, you and Shannon. I enjoy the laughs and the cooking.
I can’t believe I’m just now finding this channel. This is a new favorite. Put the bell on and everything.
Those puppies are adorable!!
Love the bloopers!!
Doggone this sounds great - got too excited and licked my computer screen but all it tasted like was dust. We love these videos and are still grateful for the time Kent took some time to be our guest on the podcast. The best to you both.
Cute Pups, Kent! Sadie must be mighty proud.
:) YUMMY!!
My uncle from NC introduced me to grits a long time ago. This looks fantastic. Thanks Kent, Shan, Andy and the pups.
*LOVE, PEACE, AND SKILLET GREASE!* Love ya CKR!
Wow has Kent and Shannon Just 🤔 taught us all something 🤔 how to properly cut A lemon 🍋 what a great 👍 idea 💡
Kent, are you kiddin? You are a magician of your recipes. Jumpin gee hossafat!
As always, I thank yinz for being there and giving my son a hobby/interest in his life.
tastiest recipe i have ever seen
I knew this was one I'd like - I've had shrimp with cheesy polenta, which is basically the same dish with an Italian accent.
Good thing I'm watching this while the wife is preparing dinner, because I KNOW I'll be feeling hungry by the time this video ends!
I didn’t think I’d like this one but it turned out great. Thanks

Are you kidding me!! This is absolutely incredible!! I will fallow your recipe to the t. Lord help, I hope it turns out half as good as yours looks.
Sooo funny.. Im gonna make that tomorrow..lol
All the pups are so sweet... I live in Idaho.. I gotta make a Cowboy Kent and Cowgal Shannon outdoor kitchen 🌞🙋♀️❤
Never could stand grits...always said they reminded me of wallpaper paste, but like Cowboy Kent, all I ever had were instant. Had my first ground yellow corn grits a few years ago and they have become one of my favorite breakfast foods!
That must be a million dollar dish cuz it sure does look rich. LOL !! Love cheese grits & love your vlogs!
