So I bought this guitar (mustard yellow ) based entirely on this video - WINNER! Holy crap is it a joy to play. Feels great in the hand, lightweight, very playable neck, and sounds great! I can vouch.
Thank you so much for including the weight of the guitars that you review. I'm in a wheelchair so lighter guitars are much more comfortable for me and it can be very difficult to find that spec.
@Brandon Long I've never run into a problem with side-mounted jacks, but also play at kind of an odd angle. Instead of resting the guitar vertically on my leg, I use a strap and tilt the guitar back so it's laying across my stomach and my leg. It makes bar chords a bit more challenging and has probably created some weird left hand technique issues for me, but it makes it so I don't have to worry about a side-mounted jack and I think it's made my right hand a bit more accurate. Having said that, top-mounted jacks are easier, since I can see the hole instead of feeling around for it.
i bought the yellow dc.... perfectly set up straight out the box.... i always fit a new set of decent strings straight away.... this is one of the best i have bought in a long time.... i can afford a gibson if i wanted, but i get more fun from all the £200 guitars i have ever bought....this guitar is minimal features, but that makes me concentrate on actually learning instead of fiddling with settings etc.. even sounds good un-plugged...
Thanks for your reviews and the effort you put into them. One thing that might help in expanding your channel would be to respond to more questions and comments. Most people really appreciate that.
Had my DC Jr for a few weeks now and I'm very happy with it. Build quality is really good and no sharp fret edges on the neck. The only bad thing is it ain't tv yellow not even close. It's a shame that Gibson don't make affordable lpj if they did they'd sell a lot of them. And if they won't then other guitar companies will.
How is it, and how do you compare the CST neck carve to the other PRS? I have an SE Custom 24 with wide thin, and an S2 Standard 22 with Pattern Regular.
@@kdogg7882 I cant say because I do not own a PRS and never had the chance to play on it so I do not know how it plays and how it feels but honestly I have to say , I live here in the Europe so , I had to wait 6 days , there back in Germany if you order from thomann a guitar is what I know that , they check up the guitar first and they tune it for you and they pack it up good so nothing happens if its shipped over to you. There is some good reviews of the Harley Benton CST-24T guitars.
and yes I know that PRS makes very good guitars and if I have to believe the reviews and the comparison between those 2 is that PRS feels just better in the hands and have better frets , better finished but that's just the reviews.. my self liked the PRS Custom 24 10 Top Emerald but I do not have € 4.599 so :)
@@hk015 : I live close to a store that sells the full range of PRS guitars, from the SEs to core models with 10 tops. For me, there wasn't a massive increase in playability going from the S2 to the CE to the Core. What I meant most about the neck is the shape and feel of the neck. Is it thick? How would you compare it to other neck shapes if you aren't familiar with PRS?
@@kdogg7882i only checked out some harley Bentons , squiers , Ibanez and the yamaha pacifica ( price issues ) . it's a c shape neck and yes it feels a little bit thick compared to the pacifica and the squier , ( little bit more smooth ) , but for its price and the nice emerald green colour? its very good but because i'm honest , if it wasnt the green colour i would choose the pacifica ( little bit more expensive but nice feels and sound).i dont know if i may put a link here but just check this out th-cam.com/video/_unZDy7yOvo/w-d-xo.html or you can also check this out , this is the one with the comparison i think th-cam.com/video/q9zaQY9Eqfg/w-d-xo.html
Just received my DC JR yesterday, only had time to check the condition after shipping, which was fine. It definitely has the feel and finish of a more expensive guitar! Have always wanted a p90 JR but haven't had a grand or so to spend on a Gibson! I feel like this will definitely scratch that itch!
Just had 3 Harley Bentons delivered last week...Great Value and Great Guitar....And yes $30 shipping . Howerver if you order more than one.....you can share the shipping charge....Great Video. Tim n Tina
I just had two of the RG JR's, with 2, 20 watt amps, stands, straps, etc, delivered about a week ago. I was happy that the shipping was so cheap, but I panicked when I saw the box. It was destroyed, with the contents literally falling out on the ground. The box seemed inadequate to contain the weight of 2 amps and 2 guitars + accessories. Luckily the instruments and amps were un damaged, and I think that the couriers made sure to keep the contents together. However my Pro series was packed nicely in a single box and arrived in excellent condition. I do love the quality of these guitars and plan on buying more. Going forward, I'll just order one at a time.
Bought mine 2 years ago and I like the design and uniqueness. Unlike the HB pics online, the classic Gibson burst with the warm tint has a brownish “green” hue which is unfortunate. Other reviewers have noticed it on their personal purchases. What was I to do-send it transatlantic back to Germany? Components are good, but in no way does it have the Leslie West vibe. HB- get your color tints corrected.
It would be good to know some extra details in your reviews such as neck profile, any intonation issues, tuning stability, pickup output/comparisons and generally how the guitar compares to others in the price range.
Thanks Max for including the weights of the guitars you review. Derek Trucks plays a Gibson SG. In one youtube interview he said he looked for the lightest one he could find...thinks they resonate better or something. I prefer lighter guitars too. My SG weighs 6.1 pounds.
I have have had the DC version for about 3-4 months now, & my boss (i work in a local music store) has been on my neck about "cheap harley benton's", & i must admit, the love of playing has me reaching for my HB over my Gibby Junior. The gibby ends up in places where i have to "prove my skills" as upposed to my love of playing. My HB is giving my proper Gibby a run for its money! 🤓 In short, where i'm playing for my playing fun, i'm hands down playing my HB rather than my "authentic" Gibson Junior, which i just got less than 10 days ago..... Love this episode as far as "new player info" goes, this is how the "go-to celeb sound" is made for the next generation. 👍🤘
@Ed Doug Here, Junior is ment as part of what a "Les paul Junior" is, now the Harley Benton has given me is the joy of playing. And i'. m emphaziseng on what it means to pick your guitar just for the joy of playing the guitar. That's where guitar-makers are missing the point. The love of making music, this is where HB has hit it correctly with players feeling comfortable with the instrument they have on hand. Granted the p90 on the HB is on the middleground og what a p90 sounds, it gives joy enough to show you what you like as far as what you'd like to sound like. & who the fuck are you to stand in the way of that?!
Les Paul is the father. Son...Jr. Young son has not filled out with just the raw parts of being a man, the body isn't filled out ( flat top) and simple. His shape is the same just not contoured. Same scale length just void of upgrades. I could go on but you see where this is going. I can tell I'm talking to a young audience.
It looks good for a couple hundred....not bad in mustard yellow. Paid 40.00 for a epiphone LP jr on craig's list. (I paid a lot...last one I paid 25.00 at a pawn shop) Added a chinese humbucker 498t (14k Alnico 5) Gibson knock off for 14.00. (If you want to convert the original 2 wire pickup to a 4 wire you can save the 14.00...original is a 16.5k so may need to change all pots to 250k to tame it) Added Good tuners. (had 'em) Added a extra pot on the corner of the pick guard next to the bridge. Now I got a treble and bass pot...with volume. These are not standard tone pots....true treble and bass pots. Rewired it. Added a DPDT on/on/on switch between the original pots...got series, single coil, parallel with one humbucker...yes it works!.....IT's a monster JR!!! Don't know why epiphone and gibson don't do it. cost me about 20.00 to upgrade since I had the tuners....and this sucker holds tune. Great intonation! Set it with the bridge and nut. I did have to use a A250k pot for volume....tamed it a bit.
Hey Max. First of all I am a punk rocker and although you would not be my go to for you tube videos I have found myself watching your content more and more. I also bought a Bugera G5 off your recommendation. Sorry I couldn’t by through your link. I shop at Reverb so I can finance with Affirm. Secondly and just a suggestion to grow your fan base. Add some punk rock style playing like the band Strung Out. They play a mix of Punk Rock and Metal and blend chunky power chords with the solos you love to play. In this video I heard no power chords at all. So many You Tubers do the solo thing and that is fine but to grow your fan base I think it would be cool to see you mix it up. Thanks for bringing cool gear to your channel.
The quality of Harley Benton instruments has been on good run now! I remember trying some of the HB guitars from early and mid 00's and the quality wasn't that good in "out of box and play" terms. Newer models have been surprisingly good for the price for what I have had chance to try.
Best guitar channel out Max. How about a best of video for the year. One for guitars, pedals, amp and everything else you review over the course of the year. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for weighing the guitar. I haven't seen any other reviews where people care to weigh the guitar. It always makes a difference to the overall tone of the guitars.
Ive been watching on both my and my gfs youtube acc to help you out with youtubes algorithm. Im honestly more surprised by single pick up guitars and their tone that some can give em with their amp/pedal selection. I never heard of Harley Benton til this year thanks to many youtubers talking about em. But 15 years ago I would have considered them when i first picked up my first guitar
I’ve been looking at one of the HB telecasters recently and it’s just insane what you can get quality wise for the price. Seems like they use higher quality woods and hardware than you’d expect for that price point. I wrote them off in the past, but I’m starting to be a believer!
Ryan Haydon... Don't laugh but check out the Monoprice tele copies. Very inexpensive and sound and play fantastic. I own both a HB and a MP telephone and prefer the Monoprice!
I love the P-90 sound. I had over 20 Years a Hoyer LP full mahagony + orig.P-90 + SC. But good friends always twist. So now i miss that sound. These Rosswell sounded near a gibson p-90. At that price ! great. love to see more Guitar test with p-90's.
I picked up two new in the box Firefly guitars on Craigslist last week. One was the Junior and was was the double cut 2 pickup version. Once I lowerd the nut slots they played great. The only other issue was the big neck heel. This Harley Benton looks like a better design neck-wise. But since I got the Fireflys at the same price the seller paid for them (with the clear plastic still on the plastic bits) I can't complain. I noticed you can save some money on HB's by buying B-Stock.
Dude, I have my guitars and buy on the higher end, but that doesn’t matter. Your content is great for everyone. You’re professional and help those who want to try a new style, maybe me, to try something new, or newbies who can’t afford something pricy to get a good value. So cool, I wish there were more musicians like yourself. You’re spreading the music bug to many, I love it!
Hi Max, Nice demo! I haven't heard of Harley Benton much! But they look and sound great, it's plain looking but to the point. It kind of looks like the Gibson Jr. I too like the mustard color, and the dark fretboard ! I'm a big fan of the ebony fretboards! I have a ESP FRX that I bought, two years ago, from the Guitar Center's used section, from their California store! It has a rosewood fretboard, but it's on the dark side. I noticed it had a lot of white looking minerals in the fretboard, so I used some Music Nomad fret conditioner on it, and now it looks a lot better! The shipping was around $25.99, that was okay, being It was shipped from California to Georgia, coast to coast! Thank again Max for another great review. See you in the next video! Todd P.
Hi Max, I wanted to do a follow up on my comment I made about the video where you bought yourself a early Christmas gift, a used guitar! I was saying when buying a used guitar, to check it out really good before you plug it in to your amp and pedal board! So I email some friend's of mine at Marshall and they said, " if the guitar, pedal, or cable's had a short circuit, it could do damage the amp". And they wouldn't advise doing so, and should take it to a certified repair shop, or contact the manufacturer if needing repair! I'm sure you an most of your viewers know this already. But some newcomers might not know! Thanks Max Todd P.
Thanks again Max. I do have a couple of questions: - How do you change tone on these guitars? - What amp do you use? - Where do you get those backingtracks from? Thanks for you video's! Keep up the good work. As the growing concerns: I will spread the word!
New to the channel . I have been considering buying a Harley Benton for some time. I want to pair it with their 2x12 upright cabinet with the celestion speakers. I like your playing style in this video. Especially compared to some of your older videos. It appears to be more methodical with better Melody. Of course this is my opinion. Thank you for the video man........
Looking on the site it doesn’t clarify, or I couldn’t see the forest for the trees, if these are same P90 as on the SC-450 GT . I want something P90 in my life.....
I have the black sc jr. Pretty good for the price. When mine was delivered I got hit with about $25 in import fees/processing. I'm not sure I should have been charged with the price of the guitar. But idk for sure. Still worth it but just be aware of the possibility to need some cash on delivery. Good guitar though. *fees were from US Customs not Thomann. Also your bank or credit card issuer may charge a 1%-3% service fee for an international transaction.
You should demo the HB G112 Vintage Cab with Celestion Vintage 30 speaker at Thomann. Crazy affordable. In Canada its 70 flat rate shipping but up to like 40lbs so I bought HB cab and a HB guitar. Excellent quality for the money. Shipment arrived in one week to my door.
The nice thing about a sh-affordable guitar is it keeps people's expectations in check -- they seem to expect an expensive guitar to sound good automatically, in the same way so many think a good camera will automatically result in nice photos. When you blow their socks off with a Harley Benton, everyone (including yourself) will know it's in the fingers. 😎
Subscribed ☺That DC is very similar to the JHS Vintage V130 model but has the benefit of a badass style all six string fully intonatable bridge compared to the Vintage Wilkinson wrap around and that alone makes it a winner.
Just got a HB60 Semi Hollow bass from them. Sadly I havent touched any of my basses since Fenders, Epis, Yamahas etc. This thing is so fat sounding and mellow its insane. I did knock it off the stand and break the E tuning peg so I slapped on a set of Grovers that fit perfectly. Cant say enough about these guitars/basses.
Wondering what kind of amp and PEDALS he's using. Those aren't tones that I typically hear from a P90. They usually grind more than sing. Hmmmmmm. I wish he'd say.....
Love the TV Yellow Dbl Cut, but the finish looks horrible. You can clearly see the split in the body, they should have done a heavy primer to cover this before the tint, such a shame .. UGH .... @ 6:04 you can see what I am referring to
Get the right effect pedals or software to run it through and you will get the most amazing sounds from these HB's p90s just do it all. Very good for bluesy rock'n'roll punk rock. What ever. Very well made and versatile instrument
It sounds good but you have to take in to consideration what amp and effects your using if you using a nice blackstar Id core amp or just about any other amp with multiple effects a cheap guitar will sound good.
Do you live in the US and if so do you use a Credit or Debit Card when buying from Thomann's? All my purchases from Thomann's were on my Credit Card because I was afraid to use my Debit, has anyone used their Debit card and is it safe or should I just stick with my Credit Card?
Hey Max can you share a link to order those? I checked it out on Google and all I get is used sites. But from what I heard they sound good thanks for demonstrating.
Already a subscriber, and I enjoy what you do! Love the budget guitar reviews, like this one. 👍👍 Maybe do budget amp reviews?? Maybe you've done it and I haven't realized it. Or maybe that market doesn't exist lol, idk.
Thx for the video! I have a question - what is that guitar in red that is first in line in the background? Looks great, though it is no sharp picture of it.
I love this model of HB... I the only nitpick I have is that Harley Benton p90 pickup sounds very thin unlike a real p90 should sound imo... this would be a good guitar to mod and perhaps do some home relic 🧐🤔
I would like to see a comparison to the Allen Eden Southbound Jr. Shoot, I would just like to see a review of the Allen Eden Jr. that isn't generated by Allen Eden Guitars!

You’re professional and help those who want to try a new style, maybe me, to try something new, or newbies who can’t afford something pricy to get a good value. So cool, I wish there were more musicians like yourself. You’re spreading the music bug to many, I love it!
Rock on, Harley Benton! I love your demo, dude!
Todd P.
Hey Max. Your playing was really on point this video! Great video and review. Thanks for sharing
Mahogany is totally the best guitar wood. Really deep, vibrating sound.
I have a Hamer proto type flame maple top looks just like it but it has 2 Seymour Duncan in it love that body style!
Thanks Max
Todd P.
This is an amazing guitar. Budget cost. It will do heavy metal ,(yes it will) down to blues break up and clean.
Hey Max, Harley Benton put a picture on Instagram of a new Explorer guitar being made in the factory and it looks badass!
Terry B oh man!!! Does it look more like a proper Explorer than the current Extreme 84 model?
Yeah does it? I gotta know
Good review Max. I bought the DC yellow..
Thanks again Max. I do have a couple of questions:
- How do you change tone on these guitars?
- What amp do you use?
- Where do you get those backingtracks from?
Thanks for you video's! Keep up the good work. As the growing concerns: I will spread the word!
These are hot now indeed. TY for the video.
Dont only play metal, try to play some crunch tones and lets hear that guitar really sound something like leslie west a, classic rock.
I so want these both Hope Santa will bring me. I love your videos and you have some killer tone love it
Cool for Green Day or some Jean Jett Stuff...thanks for the Review
Ulrich Robert Musil is Jean related to Joan?
New to the channel . I have been considering buying a Harley Benton for some time. I want to pair it with their 2x12 upright cabinet with the celestion speakers. I like your playing style in this video. Especially compared to some of your older videos. It appears to be more methodical with better Melody. Of course this is my opinion. Thank you for the video man........
Looking on the site it doesn’t clarify, or I couldn’t see the forest for the trees, if these are same P90 as on the SC-450 GT . I want something P90 in my life.....
the DC and the SC ones have Roswell P90D Alnico-5 Dog Ear single coil
LAMF
johnny thunders!!!
You will have to change the bridge to lower the action, I have a SC
Rocking with DOKKEN!!! I caught that!
If they had a single cut in that yellow id be all over it.

got 'eem
You should demo the HB G112 Vintage Cab with Celestion Vintage 30 speaker at Thomann. Crazy affordable. In Canada its 70 flat rate shipping but up to like 40lbs so I bought HB cab and a HB guitar. Excellent quality for the money. Shipment arrived in one week to my door.
I did a review of the 2x12. Great cab! Check it out, it's here on my channel.
Been waiting for HB to release a Junior.
I just hit that subscribe button Max, and I’m proud to say that I’m on board! 🤘🏻✌🏻
Nice guitars. Still waiting for that headless Harley that you saw the prototype for.
Howe thick are the necks on these guitars.??
I want the DC JR
Always like your videos
Max, it took me a while to subscribe, but here I have done it!
Wondering what kind of amp and PEDALS he's using. Those aren't tones that I typically hear from a P90. They usually grind more than sing. Hmmmmmm. I wish he'd say.....
Dan Pritchett I believe Max typically uses a Blackstar amp of some sort. One of the mid priced Venue series I believe.
@@erictoniaschwab1009 Thanks. No wonder he got those tones. Yikes. Still wish he'd say...
In short if you play rock, punk rock, or blues these are the guitars you need. And no worries of theft is the big bonus.
How is the neck profile,58 chunky ?
I have a harley benton myself bro, they are a great guitar for cheap.
Love the TV Yellow Dbl Cut, but the finish looks horrible. You can clearly see the split in the body, they should have done a heavy primer to cover this before the tint, such a shame .. UGH .... @ 6:04 you can see what I am referring to
enjoy these reviews thanks
If this is the actual sound you can get with this thing, then it's what I'm after.
Nice guitars
Do you live in the US and if so do you use a Credit or Debit Card when buying from Thomann's? All my purchases from Thomann's were on my Credit Card because I was afraid to use my Debit, has anyone used their Debit card and is it safe or should I just stick with my Credit Card?
Hey Max can you share a link to order those? I checked it out on Google and all I get is used sites. But from what I heard they sound good thanks for demonstrating.
a tremlo bar would make this a fun player
PLEASE DIG UP THE LES PAUL. ive been waiting for so long, i cant take it anymore.
ßilly ßadass I think 30 days is tomorrow
Seem comparable to Les Paul Juniors. Would make a good guitar set up specifically for slide.
Why don´t they make them in Daphne/Sky Blue... I would have already bought them!
It's a great color. My Squier deluxe Strat is Daphne Blue.
That mustard one resonated like a bitch. Sounds awesome!
I was just thinking to myself before I opened TH-cam, I'm not buying a guitar in 2020. hmmm....
As REO Speedwagon so famously sang, "I can't Fight This Feeling Anymore". Merry Christmas to me, I guess. Probably you too!!!! LOL.
Buy it in 2019 then...
I like how you play at a 'slower' speed, more melodic, not like yngwie.
Yingwe plays like he is desperatly seeking people to say that he plays fast
@@tavicotavio Yes. Theres a time for it, at times, but not every note at 10000000000% speed.
Cool thing is, is that Max can play pretty fast. He just doesn’t have anything to prove. I like that.
I'm getting another one.
Already a subscriber, and I enjoy what you do! Love the budget guitar reviews, like this one. 👍👍 Maybe do budget amp reviews?? Maybe you've done it and I haven't realized it. Or maybe that market doesn't exist lol, idk.
was you the singer in 'type o negative' ?
Thx for the video! I have a question - what is that guitar in red that is first in line in the background? Looks great, though it is no sharp picture of it.
I love this model of HB... I the only nitpick I have is that Harley Benton p90 pickup sounds very thin unlike a real p90 should sound imo... this would be a good guitar to mod and perhaps do some home relic 🧐🤔
I would like to see a comparison to the Allen Eden Southbound Jr. Shoot, I would just like to see a review of the Allen Eden Jr. that isn't generated by Allen Eden Guitars!
I JUST BOUGHT MY 3RD HARLEY BENTON A DC 580 VG CH
Great for a beginner
Hey Guitar Max if you haven’t checked out Relish Swiss Mary guitars they are amazing, I think you’ll love it!
they sound great!!!
Cool guitar!!!
Perfect guitar if you wanna play songs from Johnny thunders
are the neck profiles the same on each of theses guitars?
