I have both, owned the xt100 for a year and bought a 2nd hand xt20. The only advantage of the xt100 and vs the xt20 is the Bluetooth (for syncing with the fuji app and location) and the screen swivel. The rest; image quality, functions and ease of use, the xt20 wins hands down. When I bought my 3rd body (XS10) traded my xt100 for a lens.
Have been itching to get a Fuji X whatever as a walk around/street shooting camera; I have a 5D4, but it's not ideal for that. I was waffling between the X-T2 and X-T20, but I'll have to give the X-T100 a serious look now.
I love my XT20 to bits but that XT100 looks a pretty great deal. I'd love a firmware update that introduced some of the functionality of the xt100 to the xt20. Do you find yourself using focus stacking/post focusing, digital stabalization or the 100fps slomo? Are they just gimmicks?
I’ve used the digital stabilization and it’s decent, especially when paired with an OIS lens. The slomo is ok but it’s 720p. Haven’t tried focus stacking and not sure what I would use it for anyways 🤔
Do you mean the 85mm? It works on all Fujifilm cameras with the XF mount. So yes it will work on the x-t100. Aperture control would be done by a dial in the camera similar to the way Fuji lenses without an aperture ring function.
A better lens would help. The XF18-55 f/2.8-4 focuses a bit faster/better. The 35mm F2 would also be good for portraits. Continuous AF is better on the X-T20 though. And it’s VERY good on the X-T30. Depends on how much more you want spend. I tend to shoot portraits using single AF.
Hey Scott, you said that you'd choose the xt100 as a secondary camera but what if you had to choose one of the two as your primary device? Which one would you recommend to a beginner for street and portrait photography?
If it’s just for photography I’d chose the X-T100 and save a few dollars. If you’re planning on doing any video work on top of your photography I’d choose the X-T20.
Hi Scott! I was just in searching a comparison from this two cameras and thank you for your work, I have just one doubt. I want to leave my Nikon d80 (truly old) and move to fuji. I love landscape and travel photography. Which one do you think is more suitable for me?
Does either of these have a time lapse mode? And does the cmos sensor have that weird "worminess" that the x-trans has? I'm talking about when you pixel peep the files in Lightroom.
In actual use the difference is negligible. The benefits of a bayer sensor are found while editing raw photos but most raw editors now have better x-trans support.
Scott Graham thanks for replying. You mean image quality will be negligible in JPEGs too? And what about Fuji's coveted Colour Science? Does XT100 have Colour Science too?
The XT100 jpegs are as good as the XT20. The only place the XT20 is better is video and tracking autofocus. The XT200 is even better than the 100 and worth a look if you can find a sale.
Hey! Im a beginner and now there is a new t30 . i want to use it for travel fotography and as hobby camera, and taking selfies by myself on a distance with landscape . The camera that i will get needs to be worth the quality and price so i dont need to buy a better one later. So coudn’t decide. What should i do t30, t100 or for the older version t20. Thankyouu
Sir, unfortunately nobody made any video on x-t100 hotshoe capabilities. High speed sync, TTL etc. No information is available about it even on fuji website, no other review websites. Sir please please 🙏 make one small video on it.
I found the video AF was slightly better than the X-A5. It was far better to use AFC with a centre point than face recognition. The internal mic’s are ok, but mostly just for indoors.
@@Scott_Graham thanks. I use the center point C-AF on the X-T20 too. Face detection is too unreliable, especially with glasses. That screen must be nice for vlogging though.
I want a second hand camera for family photographing and film, it's filming is important. I've seen this video, and know that X-T20 is recommended for movie. I'm not depended on more than 1080p. I'm from Norway and the X-T100 is on sale, normally it's ~560$ (converted from Norwegian krone (NOK)) and now on sale it's only ~375$. So ~185$ saved. (That is with XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ included). The X-T20 is also on sale, from ~934$ to ~745$ including XF 18-55mm f/2,8-4 R. So ~189$ saved there. What do you (or your followers) think/recommend? I really want the X-T20, but when you say the X-T20 is not worth the 370$ difference it made it a little more complicated... (Sorry for this loong comment, hope you or someone takes the time to read and reply to me :)
Shin Lim X-Trans is fantastic for noise control and skin tone but ultimately a megapixel is a megapixel. Also the X-T100 is the first non X-Trans Fuji Camera without an AA filter.
@@hsienfromspace it's not good for video. The bit rate is awful and the AF is a joke. The X-T30 is a video monster but that insane Q button placement is the worst. But you do get used to it. The X-T20 is still a good choice too. I'm shooting with it this weekend.
Fuji has much better quality than canon and are currently the leader in quality pictures. You dont even need to shoot raw for very detailed pictures. I would recommend canon for video rather than pictures
I don't understand something... if you usually use the xt-20 for filming on TH-cam and it only films for 15 minutes maximum, how can you make that happen?
@@Scott_Graham Ive been wondering whether to go for this or the sony a6000 or canon m50 (or any other one worth considering) as a budget entry level mirrorless camera for primarily shooting stills. May shoot the occasional video (which i can do on my phone), but really, am just after a tool to learn how to take decent photos. The sony is a fair bit older but must be a great little camera to still be on the market (seen one in my local camera shop the other day) and not that much cheaper then the X-T100. You mentioned somewhere that the m50 had better autofocus and better video, but the X-T100 will give the best results. Guess it all comes down to which one offers the best images and the best one to grow with?
Well said, good and clear comparison. Appreciated! Very helpful . One thing is annoying, actually *very* annoying and gets in the way to enjoy this good when listening (and watching) to this helpful video: *sound/music in the background!* Besides that, thank you for making this helpful presentation of these 2 very similar cameras not being so similar.
Hmmm... interesting. Essentially you're getting a flip out screen with inferior video and imaging for not much less in price. I'm in the market for something smaller than my X-H1 for vlogging and out and about, I still think Canon are on top of the budget market.
The M50 had better autofocus and arguably better video. But if you’re an experienced shooter the X-T100 will give you better results and the video and autofocus are decent. Either way, mirrorless for life! 🙌
hehe yeah I'm so in love with my new X-H1 it has literally changed the game for me. Didn't you say the autofocus on the X-T100 wasn't as good? also, as much as I've committed to my X-H1 - I keep heading back to my cheap Canon 200D for vlogging for that flip screen, I suppose I should just go test out the X-T100 - if I can stick with Fuji I'd be stoked.
I found the autofocus to be totally fine. Not quite as fast as higher end Fuji gear but it was accurate. As for vlogging I actually found the face tracking worked very well, on par with my Canon G7x ii.
Hi! Thanks for this awesome video!! Xt20 is cheap here (japan) now with 18-55mm kit lens (brand new) - $785 Xt100 is body only (new) - $443 and 18-55 lens (second hand) - $325 Should i get xt20? Fuji XE-3... I love rangefinder style cameras....

Just for fun 👍
Does that little screw in grip for the x-t100 have a model name? Bought mine used and it did not come with it.
