Shielded bands are not used for underground. Fernco couplings or repair couplings are used for this.

Good video, I believe the joint you used for the application is for a vent. A water Y connector needs a smoother Y joint but I am sure it works fine, the smoother for drain snaking

Yes, I had the same question as Sputnik about the couplers being rated for underground.
Also, the width - I've seen wider couplers.... so was just wanting more details about how to make sure the couplers were adequate.

Those couplings are called "no hub" bands, they do not slide over the pipe because they have a "stop" in them. The proper and code approved coupling is a fenco "no stop" rubber coupling. The bands you are using are primarily for cast iron pipe, that's why the have the metal band around them. You can still use them but you have to slide the band off the rubber and fold the rubber back over it self, you do this on both sides, then the pipe fits right in. However, depending on you location might not pass code.

“All you have to do is put in some dirt!” Plastic has little inherent strength, pack it with shingle at least one metre (where possible) in all three directions even if there is little traffic over the joint. If you’re producing a video on YT, at least do the job correctly….or watch a professional qualified tradesman of which there are many. Do it right first time, every time.
