It looks a lot like Air Sea Battle to me.

The diagonal shooters are too hard to use. It looks good but it ends up being a button masher.

This is now 135/260 so just in the bottom 50% though he says he sort of likes it. (I'm looking for the game that he says he doesn't.)
Imagic had some good and successful games in 1982, and upgraded their versions for the Intellivision, which I don't think Activision did. (They even had a version for Odyssey²!) Some were advertised with TV commercials, others in magazines and comic books. I saw the documentary where they were just about to sell stock when Atari changed their projection of 50% increase in profitability to 15% increase in profits, causing an investor panic. I think this was one company besides Atari that allowed returns. While they released several games in 1983, I don't remember them advertised (other than Trick Shot) and I guess the retailers (and consumers) didn't want them?

I was almost always way better at Atari games than my brother was, but this game and sea quest he was amazing at
