Four digits for me too. P. O. Badge. I remember once, way after the five digit badges were out, two officers passed me in the hallway and one said to the other ‘wow, look at that old timer, he only has four numbers on his badge’. It was quiet funny. 10-‘81.
Hey, Scott, old Banning PD cp here. I've begun half-heartedly collecting badges. I say half-heartedly because I am cheap and will not pay the big bucks for the real deals most of the time. I spent a few years in Govt. work and had a source in China (Of course because they make everything. Shit they'll be making Americans before we know it) who made exact LAPD and LASO badges.
The LAPD Badge is one of the most iconic badges in American law enforcement. Quite a few cities here in Texas have badges that are based off of the LAPD badge. In the North Texas city next to mine, they recently switched over to an LAPD-inspired badge, replacing the "eagle top" which feels so generic, in my personal opinion. Police officers in my city wear a badge with a similar shape, but not a building (rather it's a five-point star, because Texas). The LAPD Series 6 badges just stand out, regardless of what city adopts a variation of them.
Scotty, question for you. Does anyone in LAPD actually have badge number 714? I was a cop in Virginia in three different departments (the more rural areas use part timers and you can work for multiple agencies) and I kept all of my badges when I was done. You're right, you get attached. I always laugh when I see a scene in a police movie, like Dirty Harry, when some disgusted cop throws his badge away. I can't imagune ever doing that. The badge means something and you had to earn it.
Can Uncle Scotty give viewers some info on LAPD police patches ... coming from a retired 30-year vet cop and former collector from the East Coast. Thanks.
I love the LA police badge I’m not a collector per se Only other badge them in Oneida want is if I can get a DEA badge just like Elvis got from the president
We all heard rumors about some idiot who dremeld his windows away to look more seasoned. Must of forgot that the badge numbers tell the same story lol.
There are many "parts badges" for LAPD on the collector's market. Mostly the old eagle-top style. If you find a REAL, modern LAPD badge, you are more than lucky. You can get a cheap repro modern style on the Internet ... made in China.
Old school excellence on your words sir!

Sounds like those badges went on the same fishing trip my pistol brace went on.
I got mine from the Santa Monica bay, like everyone else.

To my knowledge no one used 714 except Sgt Joe Friday, Jack Webb. 🕵🏻♂️

Way back when I started with CPD you wanted a fto like him
What did you carry back then? I heard now all new recruits have to carry a 9mm Glock, seems soulless.
@@richieb6020 When I knew Scott, he wore a Beretta at all times. I've never felt safer in my life than at those times, as you can well imagine.

I don’t know if Elvis Presley ever got an LAPD badge. But if any non sworn LAPD person could get one. It would be Elvis.
