We have hurricane Ian heading towards us in Tampa Florida and of course my brand new generator wouldn't start right out of the box. I saw the spark plug had no spark. I didn't know what all of the wires did until I watched your video. I disconnected the oil sensor and on/off switch like you suggested and it started right up! (Yes, I put the bottle of oil they send and the level is good). I don't know which was the problem but it runs great now. You really saved my family. Thank you so much!
@@TheRustyRooster I definitely agree with this statement. It's like gaining your youth back when you get a impact tho haha. Much love brother. Love the content
Thank you I am not a beginner but I'm not a professional but I was fixing up a customer's minibike with a 212 and it randomly had no spark so I cleaned off the flywheel and magneto that did nothing TH-cam was my last resort I took the oil sensor wire off and it started first pull
great video I'm glad you found the problem I have a new motor just like yours no sparks I checked everything like you said everything is new and checked well but still no spark is there anything also that I can check?
Hello. Enjoyed you video. I'm a little confused on the second step where you are testing the switch after checking the Oil alert system. You appear to be putting the positive lead of the Multimeter (red) right above the Oil alert sensor and putting the negative lead of the Multimeter (black) into the kill wire that you disconnected to verify the ground from this is good. Your multimeter then beeps. If you show resistance when the switch is OFF and no resistance when the switch is ON, does this verify that the switch is good? I have tried everything else you showed to removing the coil and testing the spark plug cap, which was your eventual issue. I honestly believe the issue I have is electrical, probably involving the switch. I would just like to verify that my ON/OFF switch is not the issue.
Enjoyed your video, I got the same motor having the same problem, gonna check coil do some sanding probably, check the boot . But the wire coming from the oil sensor has never been connected to anything and ran good before , is that ok to run this motor like that ?
What’s the R R way in determining what’s wrong with a machine that won’t run. Do u have certain things u check first, second etc. I start with fuel in the tank (fresh). Then I do the spray carburetor cleaner in the air filter to see if it has spark. If it hits at all that means u have spark- timing-compression etc. is that correct???
Total beginner here. Trying to figure out why my dewalt power washer has no spark. It could only be an ignition system problem correct? So I disconnected the low oil sensor, no spark. I disconnected the kill wire, still no spark. Basically the kill wire grounds the spark if the oil is low correct? Is that why the low oil sensor connects with it?
You are correct. Did you disconnect the kill wire that is attached directly to the coil and test? If so and you had no spark test the coil itself as well as the sparkplug boot. Good luck
@@TheRustyRooster I also wanted to ask, when we use a multimeter for these kinds of tests, what is it that we are checking for? Continuity? Also, about the on and off switch, I saw someone using it by testing the on switch and it showed no indication, but by testing the off switch it did indicate stuff and I was a little confused by it. Again, total beginner And thank you so much for your response!!
@@jf922 your checking for continuity. The kill switch in the on position will have no connection to ground from the kill side of the coil. Hope thus helps
So you sanded the magnet but not the coil. Seems like a halfazz job to me. Why? Perfect time to do it. They both are affected by resistance from rust. Reminds me of my Half a job Ex.
@@TheRustyRooster havent tried yet, I got a new spark plug. Autozone didnt have a NGK so i got an equivalent, and I will unplug the oil sensor as well and give that a try, in a couple days. Its raining everyday so no hurry

Lol... I stand corrected sir.. as for impact I have them and use but I'm old school and can't seem to get in the habit of using more often. Thanks for watching.
You had your ohmmeter set at 200 ohms when testing the first one and 200 KILO ohms when you were testing the 2nd one. Of course if you are above 200 ohms, you won't have any readings. In your age and mine, we can only be proud of our knowledge and the will to use and share it wisely. You obviously have the knowledge but you still need to work on your wisdom: BE HONEST AND STOP LYING AND CHEATING!
@@TheRustyRooster sometimes people refer to the machines as a HE and sometimes it’s a She. How do u determine which it is ?? (Confused)). Lol. I like the she’s better lol!!!!!
Thanks! ps your ohms were probably fine. The lead wires have a small amount of resistance. You can get a better idea of the real esistance of the coil by seeing what the ohms ar just with the leads shorted together and then subtracting that figure from whatever you read for the coil.
