The square piece of metal with a slot in the side may be a mortice cutting tool in wood it would normally have a drill running in its centre and would be mounted in a type of press drill
hello nigel, theh thing you found with a round hole in the bottom and windows on the side is an old wad or patch cutter for muzzle loader .. this is joel from south carolina in the usa
THAT square bit with a hole in the side ,is used to make mortice joints in wood , a drill goes down the centre of the hole to make the joint [square hole drill bit ]
Well to end it all a rifle grenade , that was quite a day out . Everyone seemed happy except the FxxK Off man and Nicola put him in his place , and you have another cannon ball for your collection . Looking forward to your next presentation , Stuart in Canada ..
I file this vid as a drilling great find of the cannon ball to go with the cannon. really love the song and drone. you guys are a blast together. cheers guys.
Hi Natalie. Thanks for spreading the word about doing Christmas your own way. People have thought our family strange that we don't do turkey etc. I make what everyone wants to eat. I only send cards to people I can't get to see. My husband and I have a tradition with any celebration cards, which is to show each other the cards, we would have chosen, then check how much we've saved not buying them. Hubby also puts my presents into his business padded envelopes, which are then reuse... he's such a romantic Carry on the good work Natalie
7:40 is a hollow chisel mortiser. You can still buy new ones of them now. A drill bit went down the middle to remove the bulk of the wood and the part you found squares off the sides and corners.
such a great day you have done sheffield proud with the amount recovered out the waters and that drone footage.just shows put the hard work in and it will pay off.every bit out helps the waterways
The silent picket explanation wasnt totally accurate, it would have a corkscrew on one end, you then place a bar or a piece of wood in as a handle, and turn it into the ground.

The butter knife looked like a fish knife.
That was my first thought on seeing it.
The spike is a shoe to make a wooden pale go deeper in the ground without braking the wood. Going back to the 15/14 century 😮
❤ Now that's a BEAUTIFUL Place'

Hi! Question- why or what do think all the files-were used for?? There were so many of them 😮
Thanks for another outstanding video guys
wonder how much deeper the river is now ?
always depends on how much rain we have had
So amazing to see the history you discover. ❤
Sorry Nigel. Grocery run the took a nap
Nigel seems to be able to find the only grenade every time. Does he have the luck (or lack of) for finding them. 💥
thanks for your comment
Says something about the power of that magnetwhen it even manages to pick up NON-MAGNETIC LEAD PIPE!
