Don't be scared to upgrade your life. We're here for it. You are still showing us beautiful scenery & teaching us how you live. It's still simple by just being so remote & less hectic. Thanks for sharing.
I am so glad that you guys got the cooktop. I had a smile on my face all way thru the video. Just found your channel yesterday afternoon on a rainy Sunday day in Perth, Western Australia. Me and my wife loved your videos from the moment from we started watching, and we binge-watct your amazing adventures. My wife is from East Timor and your walks into the jungle have reminded her of when she was young and doing the same as you do now. I wish you all the best to you and An. Your smile is contagious and An is very skilled and wise 🙏
Terrific idea to show us this process Marjo. Marjo your filming and editing skills are booming! Enjoy seeing your life so much. Takes away a bit of stress. 🙂
I think An can build the cabinets himself if he sets his mind to it. Even it it won't be like a master cabinet maker, he will be the pride every time he uses the kitchen. In time you could always upgrade as well if you're not satisfied. Congratulations!
Simple life channels are cool and all, but yours honestly seems way more unique than that. Living a simple life and building from that in a challenging location makes for a very fun watch. Plus we watch because you two are fun, not just for that. Hope you're both well
Marjo, seeing your happiness has made me teary eyed! All your guys hard work pays off and i am so happy for you! Also, An can totally do the cabinets, please make him do it! We believe in you two! ❤
Congratulations on getting your cooking stove/oven. 🎉 I found your channel through another platform I follow. I absolutely adore you both - I am enjoying your content/channel! Living in the USA for some time but originally from the 7K +island- Philippines (yes, Indonesia wins on double the amount of islands !)😂😊😊 watching your channel makes me feel homesick! Looking forward to seeing what you cook with your swanky stove cooker. Cheers.
Congratulations on your new stove❣ It will make your already beautiful life that much nicer. If your husband wants to build the cabinets, I'm sure that will come out great. Always love updates of your lives on the island💖🌴 Thank you for the video.
I have been watching your videos for two months now and love the content. You can also catch fish when you don’t feel like going underwater. You can research making fish pots, placing them in the ocean and retrieving them. Be blessed

So enjoy your sharing of your lovely relationship and life...I smile the whole viewing time! You do a superb job of editing and the music mighty good!!!
Congratulations Marjo, on the mission to buy your beautiful new stove. It fits perfectly in your new kitchen. I totally vote for Anh to make the kitchen cabinets, as he mostly built your beautiful house. Thank you for bringing us on your journey to your paradise :)
From South Africa I was the first to like the video & just watched it now. Super stove, oh, An should do the cupboards. He's quite competent. Don't forget the apron when you cook OUR REAL HOUSEWIFE OF MENTAWEI. Stunning video as usual. Much Love to you & An. Till the next one. See ya 🌍🇿🇦💌🙏👍
Thanks for this video. I was curious as to how you got supplies to the island. Very interesting. I vote for An to build the cabinetry. He is so amazingly talented and I know he will do beautiful work. My husband, with no experience, built our cabinets. It was so nice to personalize everything as he worked.
Another long awaited video 😊. Thank you for the upload. First of all, the background music was quite catchy, i enjoyed it. Please can you write me the song title and artist. Secondly, i was quite sad you didn't get your stove on the 1st trip. I don't know how you manage to remain positive. I have been greatly inspired by your patience and attitude and very happy for your new home and everything that has come with it, 24/7 electricity, running water & now a gas stove. I'm looking forward to the next addition. Much love ❤
Absolutely love you guys' content. it has been a journey but everything has come together so beautifully! Thanks for reassuring us that you will continue to share the island experiences with us. Your videos transport me to a place of total wonderment. Viewing you from southeast TX, USA.
I love that clip of Marjo getting ready to hit the town for the day..Make up....hairstyling....deciding what clothes/shoes to wear? Er nope. I think it took her about 10 seconds. A woman with the right priorities! And she looks lovely anyway - who could resist that smile? 😏
@@OurIslandLife your life really REALLY affects mine. You think you’re just living your life, but seeing your struggles to obtain what we in the west do as just a matter of course….really makes me appreciate what I have and I really think this is lacking in current society . A genuine appreciation for basic th8ngs🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤪
Cabinetry isn't easy if you do not have the right tools/equipment. That said, it also depends on your expectations. The hardest part is making everything square (perfect right angles) and without proper equipment like a sturdy table/cabinet saw, it will be difficult making repeatable rip cuts or a bench top thicknesser/planer to plane boards to repeatable thickness. Its probably a better decision to wait for the cabinet maker for this but if An wants to try, try something like a wardrobe or a bathroom cabinet first. I think after that, in time, he will probably be making lots more.
Congrats on your new stove! Hopefully we will get to see some dishes that you make with it. Already looking forward to your next video! All the best from Australia❤️
What an adventure! You both are so patient and gracious about letting things just flow...a needed quality in today's hurried and harried lifestyles. Thank you for sharing your lives with us!
I loved this video! Seeing the journey of your stove/oven was so great. As someone who has traveled a lot and lived in vans, etc., having a good stove and oven is a true luxury. Also, I noticed the video production is really improving. Not that there was anything wrong with them before, but I have noticed a shift and I love it. Xo from Australia.
So happy that you got your stove! You guys can make the cabinets, there are many DIY videos you can get ideas from. From Indiana, USA, always enjoy your videos.
I love you guys!! you make me so happy!! and you have given me the want to DREAM again! i gave up on any big goals or big dreams, now I find myself wanting more for myself. Thank you fo rall yopu do. and i think AN should do the cabinets!!
I love it!!! What a massive undertaking just to get a stove! Much like our life here.. it’s so obvious that you will enjoy the convenience of your new incredible kitchen while also continuing to embrace what is so raw and beautiful about remote island living. Incredible story you guys are sharing ❤❤❤
Very happy for you two with your new stove/oven. I'm sure it'll come in handy. You'll be able to cook when the weather does not permit outdoor cooking. I love your life, keep posting-we are watching.
So happy for you guys. Congratulations on your new stove. It's beautiful, enjoy it. There is so much commonality in our lifestyles and where we are currently on our journey. My partner and I are building our home by ourselves and must also get cabinets built. I think An should build them, they may feel more special. Best of luck with everything.
I love that you are enjoying sitting on the floor. It's so communal and there are ESO many ways that one can change position on the floor versus on a chair. I didn't realize until moving to Asia how good it is. In my country the floor is considered dirty, but in Asia one doesn't walk with shoes in the house. So even now, even though I'm living in a western country again, I keep my home shoe free so that I can still sit on the floor. I wonder whether this is a part of the culture on the Island? Sitting on the floor?
Yes exactly! It’s very normal here. Most people sit on the floor and don’t even own chairs and tables. At first I found it so difficult sitting on the floor but now I really enjoy it too. And even when visiting family and friends in Europe, I often sit on the floor now 😅
Give you folks credit! I could not live that remote. I do leave on an Island but it’s Hawaii Lanai is pretty remote no malls or box stores you order what you need and wait for the weekly barge. Kalapapa gets the barge once a month if the weather is good. I didn’t live in those places only worked. That’s the closest I have come to remote!
I built my own Kitchen cabinets from never having done it before. With enough patience, I think An can handle this project. The main thing with making good DIY cabinets is getting straight, repeatable square cuts with a circular saw. In North America, they sell a product called "Kreg Rip-Cut Circular Saw Guide". It's designed to take a basic circular saw and make it into a panel cutting saw that can cut plywood or MDF lengthwise with strips up to 60 cm wide. I'm not familiar with the woodworking tools of Indonesia, but I imagine something along these lines could be found. A tracksaw would also work for this, but be considerably more expensive. The other main cabinetry tool you'll want is a pocket hole jig. There's a million clones of those on the Internet and they're pretty small so I'm confident you can mail order one of those. The purpose of this device is to cut angled holes into the end of plywood or MDF so that it can be pulled tight to another piece with pan-head screws. (Think L or T joints from a side view). Pocket holes are very strong, and perform nearly as well as half-lap or dovetail joints for a tiny fraction of the effort. Since you have Starlink, I can recommend the Bourbon Moth Woodworking "Build Cabinets the Easy Way" series on TH-cam which will give you a great idea of the work involved. As an alternative, the New Yankee Workshop (American public television) also has a great guide to cabinetry but is harder to find these days.
Fun episode to watch (been waiting for your updates!) and happy for you 😊. I don’t really get it with the stove, but my girlfriend smacked me on the head and almost cried when she saw you putting the first kettle on 😂😊 . More Updates please. You guys are our favorite channel. Take care and keep up the good work! ❤
I appreciate your content... Thanks! I am curious how this stove is connected to a gas supply and how keeping it supplied works. Where is the gas tank? It looks beautiful!
Thank you! We put the gas bottle outside on our back terrace. Gonna build a box for it later. When it’s empty we need to go to the main village Siberut to fill it up ☺️
Great video! Really shows how tough logistics are living so remote 👍🏻 I was wondering if you could maybe make a video about plastic pollution and how bad it is in the Mentawai islands. I found that often the less developed and more tropical paradise-like places in Indonesia have the worst plastic situation due to poor waste management and nearly no awareness of locals about how "buang sampah" really ruins the environment 😢 Would be nice to see how you guys deal with trash and how the situation is on your island or the other islands around you.
Hi Jon! Thank you for the kind words. Yes, the plastic situation isn’t very good here at times. Mostly plastic from around Indonesia/rest of world washing up on the beaches on days with very high tides. The problem is that there is no where to go with the plastics. We personally just try to lead by example as I don’t feel in a place to tell local people here what to do in their own place. Its definitely a big problem in Indonesia and it definitely bothers us but it’s also a huge privilege being able to worry about plastic and what to do with it. Many people here don’t have enough money to feed their family so worrying about what to do with waste just doesn’t even come close on the priority list. So that’s why i’m not sure what the right approach for a video about this would be. Does that kind of make sense? 🫣
@@OurIslandLife Thanks for the extensive answer! I agree with you. As someone living in Indonesia myself I also don't want to disrespect or offend the people by telling them what to do with their own trash. And I also understand why it is not a top priority for them when they even struggle to bring food to the table. However, I believe that other developing countries handle the situation better due to awareness within the society and better rules by the government. Like you said we can try to serve as a good example on how to deal with it. And that's why I feel like that it matters if you would mention it in videos more often or make a separate video about it. I assume that a lot of your audience is Indonesian and therefore just showing in a non-pushy manner how you try to reduce/reuse/recycle waste might already make a small change 😊
No more getting wood to cook unless you just want to! That was some undertaking! I feel like you two are moving through the ages..you started in the caveman era and are now getting close to the current age!! Yayyy! I was so happy to see you two today!
Aloha! I just discovered your channel and am REALLY enjoying it. You asked at the end of this video, if Anh should try the cabinets or a carpenter. How about both of you? A skill saw, a mitre saw, and a few things you probably already have - will make it! This is not "men's work"! I'm female and I built and flew an airplane or three, you can do this! Good luck!
Loved this video journey of your stove! I was in wonder about that canal that you traveled through where there was so many boats transporting so many things! That was quite beautiful! Greetings from Houston, Texas! After watching your videos I am so sorry I only made it as far as Bengkulu in Sumatera!
Yes on Saturday when the ferry arrives from Padang, shopkeepers from all over the island go to Siberut to pick up supplies for their shop. So it gets pretty busy on Saturdays haha 😅
Congratulations on your new appliance, is a great achievement, l love you and your husband the way you are living your life. Pls give the cabinet to a professional if your husband can't do it.
Hahaha! The first thing you make is coffee! Of course ☺️ I didn't realise how big your boat is. I was thinking it was about half that size. Still, very impressive it could carry that big cooker!
Hahahaa yess ☕️ And yes, luckily it just fit into the boat :) we do have a smaller one too. Which is about half the size, we’ve had this bigger one only since the start of the year. We now rotate them every few months so there’s always one drying out.
New subscriber here. I love your videos..though im not a city nor an off grid dweller but in between i guess. So i can relate in your way of living. I admire you for doing things that you're not used to and still enjoy it. Looking forward for more videos!
Semoga suka kopinya....mana yg lebih kalian suka? Bungkus merah kopi arabica, rasanya ada asamnya, bungkus hitam kopi robusta rasanya agak pahit. Selalu menunggu vidio kalian....😊
A cabinet is a box with shelves and pretty doors. Are there unique design issues required like open shelves or slated doors and local woods resisted to mold due to the high humidity levels where you live? An built a house. With the right tools I’m sure An could build cabinets and your furniture. Look forward to your next cooking video.
Great video ! The stove is gonna change your evety day life so much 🙂 You look so genuin happy, your eyes are sprinkling ! You 2 can make the cabinets ! Its not so hard 😉 I believe in You ! Have a great week ahead 🥰🥰
If you can build a home like that, a kitchen cabinet is not that difficult if you have the right tools. You need finer saws mainly. But for a rough design, even what you have is good and i'm sure An's skills are good enough to make a raw wood basic cabinet with what he has because his woodworking skills are great.
Don't be scared to upgrade your life. We're here for it. You are still showing us beautiful scenery & teaching us how you live. It's still simple by just being so remote & less hectic. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! We’re loving it!
Fun episode to watch (been waiting for your updates!) and happy for you 😊. I don’t really get it with the stove, but my girlfriend smacked me on the head and almost cried when she saw you putting the first kettle on 😂😊 . More
Updates please. You guys are our favorite channel. Take care and keep up the good work! ❤
Hahahaaa 😂😅🫶🏼 live reading this! Thank you guys for watching!
@@OurIslandLife 😊👍🏻
I appreciate your content... Thanks! I am curious how this stove is connected to a gas supply and how keeping it supplied works. Where is the gas tank? It looks beautiful!
Thank you! We put the gas bottle outside on our back terrace. Gonna build a box for it later. When it’s empty we need to go to the main village Siberut to fill it up ☺️
Thanks for sharing I can't beleive your brought the stove o your little boat! so impressive.
Haha yes! We’ve brought everything for the house with the little boat 😅
Great video! Really shows how tough logistics are living so remote 👍🏻
I was wondering if you could maybe make a video about plastic pollution and how bad it is in the Mentawai islands. I found that often the less developed and more tropical paradise-like places in Indonesia have the worst plastic situation due to poor waste management and nearly no awareness of locals about how "buang sampah" really ruins the environment 😢
Would be nice to see how you guys deal with trash and how the situation is on your island or the other islands around you.
Nice. Now you can cook and bake nicely❤
Yes exactly!!
I am happy for you! thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Hi,im your new subscriber.i like your island life, its interesting and looks fun.enjoy your life
Ooh thank you so much for subscribing! 🙏🏼
No more getting wood to cook unless you just want to! That was some undertaking! I feel like you two are moving through the ages..you started in the caveman era and are now getting close to the current age!! Yayyy! I was so happy to see you two today!
Hahahaaaa yesss!!
this is an interesting journey you are all on! fun to watch! thanks for sharing!
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Good luck!
Wow epic! And yes women can definitely do these things too!
Your patience and hard work are unbelievable. Your Island Life is very inspiring, wishing more happiness and prosperity in life! ❤😊
Aww thank you 🙏🏼🫶🏼

Congratulations on your new appliance, is a great achievement, l love you and your husband the way you are living your life.
Pls give the cabinet to a professional if your husband can't do it.
Thank you!! 🤗
I love how everything has been coming together. Congrats guys!
Yes right?! We are loving it too! 🥰
Really your life is super ❤🎉
☺️🤗
Hahaha! The first thing you make is coffee! Of course ☺️
I didn't realise how big your boat is. I was thinking it was about half that size. Still, very impressive it could carry that big cooker!
Hahahaa yess ☕️
And yes, luckily it just fit into the boat :) we do have a smaller one too. Which is about half the size, we’ve had this bigger one only since the start of the year. We now rotate them every few months so there’s always one drying out.
@@OurIslandLife aha! That makes sense. When I saw the overhead shot of the big boat, I went WHAT!!! It looks huge 😆
New subscriber here. I love your videos..though im not a city nor an off grid dweller but in between i guess. So i can relate in your way of living. I admire you for doing things that you're not used to and still enjoy it. Looking forward for more videos!
Aww thank you!
Semoga suka kopinya....mana yg lebih kalian suka? Bungkus merah kopi arabica, rasanya ada asamnya, bungkus hitam kopi robusta rasanya agak pahit.
Selalu menunggu vidio kalian....😊
Yaa terima kasih banyak kak! Kami suka sekali yg arabica 🥰🥰🥰
Wow Paradise🎉
☺️☺️
A cabinet is a box with shelves and pretty doors. Are there unique design issues required like open shelves or slated doors and local woods resisted to mold due to the high humidity levels where you live? An built a house. With the right tools I’m sure An could build cabinets and your furniture. Look forward to your next cooking video.
Yess I think we’re gonna keep it simple and see how it goes. We might ask the carpenter for some tips though 😅
Yipppppeee, just lovely 😊
☺️🤩🤗
The stove procurement process was a challenge but worth the effort.
Yes absolutely!
Congratulations. I'm happy that finally you don't have to chop wood anymore. I think in Medan you can find a stove like you want. 👍👍👍
Hahaa yes! We will still chop wood from time to time for doing bbq or cooking sagu but daily 🤪
I'm so happy for you ❤
Yay same 🤩
Great video and I love the stove it’s perfect in the kitchen.
Yes right?! 🤩🫶🏼
Great video ! The stove is gonna change your evety day life so much 🙂 You look so genuin happy, your eyes are sprinkling ! You 2 can make the cabinets ! Its not so hard 😉 I believe in You ! Have a great week ahead 🥰🥰
Hahahaa yes! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Very nice

❤️❤️❤️
Congradulations on your new stove. looking forward to more content.
Yess! Working on it 😉☺️
Javaanse meisje?
Ja zot hé! 😅
We hebben zeker wilde dieren hier. Wilde varkens, reeën, slangen, varanen, etc
If you can build a home like that, a kitchen cabinet is not that difficult if you have the right tools. You need finer saws mainly. But for a rough design, even what you have is good and i'm sure An's skills are good enough to make a raw wood basic cabinet with what he has because his woodworking skills are great.
Yes we think so too 🤗
