      Imagine working tirelessly to make working conditions better for a huge number of workers and ensure them fair treatment, fair wages, and protections if the company tries to mistreat them and people instead thank a fictional character for it happening. Thank the people doing the work.

      I'm inclined to agree with the other commentor here. If your God is so grand... Why then are people finally forced to fight back against tyrannical mega corporations after decades of suffering and exploitation of workers? It's this stupid blind faith bs that led them to be able to amass immeasurable profits from abusing everyone's life. Stop blindly wishing for a God, a miracle, a messiah, a politician, or whatever rudimentary system to fix yours or our problems. Power be to us people who want to work towards a better future; a future that is being robbed from us.

      @@fearalice that's a great way to get half the country to stop supporting labor solidarity. There's no reason to quibble about who gets "thanks". The thanks doesn't even matter until collective bargaining is even successful.

      @@SubvertTheState Sorry, i don't understand, what is a good way to get half the country to stop supporting labor solidarity? Calling out the insanity of thanking a fictional character for the hard work of actual people? Or not attributing it to god? Cause if either of those things would cause a person to stop supporting labor solidarity that sounds like a shortcoming of that person.

    The decline of unions led to abuses by employers and wages so low that workers live in vehicles or tents. You go! Unionise and strike for safe working conditions and a living wage. Any corporation that engages in union-bsting or union exclusion should be fined heavily for it. Hopefully the union will send lawyers if federal prosecutors won't do their jobs. I have Amazon prime, but will boycott the company as long as workers are striking them. Some of their customers are on your side.

      I think it’s deeper than that. Reagan really fucked up workers rights and labor rights around the country. He showed that he was willing to side with capital and use state power to destroy the ppl.
      And then when you couple that with the second Revolution or production, they got tons of productivity and goods, consumers got a slight bump in purchasing power and managers, bankers, hedge funds and corporate got a lil piece of that but it’s nothing compared to what executives and up got.
      Corporations spent a million to get billions. That’s what happened, they paid off the ppl that were supposed to be the guardrails against them.

      @@JohnT.4321 you need a far more union participation across the country for that like +35% and a general strike. • @JohnT.4321
      @JohnT.4321 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Honorbound43 I meant just that across the nation. Unions would need to come together from every trade and industry to form into socialist industrial unions for collective ownership. They would throw the capitalists out of the buildings thus ending collective bargaining and keep production and distribution going. Yes, I know that the US government would step in to squash it and murder innocent people in the process to protect the capitalist class interest. That is the function of capitalist government. We all have to agree on what socialist political party that would look out for the interests of workers and ordinary people and help in the socialist reconstruction of society.

    Amazon has it wrong. If their drivers are truly "independent contractors" then that woman who was overheated could drive her truck back to the warehouse and go home and take care of her health. And if Amazon decided who is terminated, and NOT the contractor, then this has established an employer/employee relationship. Microsoft lost a lawsuit like this.
    I will hang strong with the striking workers! They were there for us during the covid lockdown. What would we have done without them?! Also I don't like the idea that people work in triple digit heat at the warehouse and in the trucks! Maybe a letter writing campainge to Amazon will change thier minds? I haven't renewed my prime membership for 5 years when I found out about worker abuses. WE can all go to the store and shop in air conditioning. We, the consumers, are also responsible for Amazon’s exploitation and maltreatment of these hard working men and women because of our shopping habits. Do we really need our packages delivered in a New York minute? We need to think of how our consumer habits and expectations are contributing to the exploitation of a class of workers. We, the consumers, need to step up and support the strikers in whatever way we can.

    • @cdw2468
      @cdw2468 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      unions have not called for any boycotts of any service. it’s counterproductive to place blame on consumers when the union hasn’t done so. it makes a stronger argument when demand is the same yet the scabs can’t handle it

    • @SherrifOfNottingham
      @SherrifOfNottingham ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The functional problem with this argument is that Amazon can provide lightning fast deliveries without underpaying and overworking them, if they were really struggling for money Blue Origin wouldn't exist.
      Also keep in mind that when idiots boycotted a few years ago to protest for improved working conditions for Amazon warehouse and delivery drivers, all that happened is their system automatically lowered the amount of hours these employees received, because it's an automated system that can react faster than you can think about what color your underwear is. Everybody just had fewer hours and less money, which accounted for the deficit in profit from sold goods.
      The boycott screwed workers and the people high up in the company creating these problems didn't even notice there was a boycott at all.
      So no, don't boycott, unless you can unilaterally prevent them from selling ANYTHING for months, say for example by preventing their logistics network from functioning by going on strike, you're not going to effect the bottom line enough for them to make a change.
      I don't normally buy anything from Amazon anyway, it's better to just consistently stop using a service that you don't like.

    As a small business owner, *I* *LOVE* *UNIONS!*
    I Love Unions because I need what EVERY small business owner needs... I need Customers; aka Consumers with Money. Union Workers organize and demand proper wages = Money. Union Workers have Money and therefore, can become my valuable Customers.
    Non-union Workers are too timid and/or ignorant to organize and are therefore, weaker and poorer. They choose to be poor slaves and they are NOT going to become My (or Your) customers, they are a drag upon our entire economy.
    I LOVE UNIONS BECAUSE UNIONS CREATE MIDDLE CLASS!
    ... and because I want Our country to have a Big and Strong Middle Class, thanks to Unions.

    • @SharienGaming
      @SharienGaming ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you got one thing wrong there - unions dont create the middle class... they elevate the wellbeing and wealth of the working class
      the middle class is a term the owning class made up to play the working class against itself
      there always is a "middle class" ... because theres always a middle between the poorest and the richest... and that allows them to make people see those as different... the poor working class as something you want to leave or avoid... and the middle class you want to get or stay in... and suddenly the working class is divided and scrambling for scraps rather than uniting and fighting the owners
      you can see that in your own rethoric... talking down on non-union workers... that they "choose" to be poor... you even blame them for economic downturns... when they are the most exploited people... they are the people unions are trying to help
      united we bargain - divided we beg.

      here's the understanding. they had the money to start the business, they took the risk of investing money into something that wasn't guaranteed, even when statistically they were more likely to fail and lose their investment and make nothing in return. you, as the worker, signed on after they had done all of the hard work and get to do the day to day operations without having to wonder where your money is coming from or if you're going to lose everything or not. don't like what you're being paid? go elsewhere. you agreed to the wage when you signed on, and now you receive that. you did not have the capital, the skills or the connection to start a company, or you wouldn't be signing on for $15 an hour.
