My cat has seizures, very short though, i have noticed stress is a main factor, stress of moving or going to the vets, loud noises ect. .while he has seizures i talk calmly to him ❤ we must stay calm too 😊

My little Pom Roxy (b. Jan 2015) ) was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. Her grand mal cluster seizures started just before her third birthday and she was put on 5:15 phenobarbitone.
I found out recently that she is intolerant to her Satiety dry food. She can eat 10gms ok but 20gms will bring back the seizures. She was 4 years seizure free then I put the satiety back up to 20gms and her seizures returned 17 days later then between 16 to 18 days until I realised. Her meds had been changed to every 8 hours to try and stop the dip at same time as lowering satiety and I had always believed that’s why her seizures stopped .
Roxy is now on raw food and we are counting months seizure free
I still am aware that overheating can bring on a seizure also a camera flash.

So, what does one do when these triggers cannot be fixed?
My senior intact dog cannot be spayed.
I am recently divorced and moving soon = stress.
What do I do to be proactive?

Thanks for the information! You mentioned those 3 flea / tick medications that a dog with epilepsy probably shouldn’t have! Can you recommend any brands they can have? Thanks 😊

My dog experienced his first cluster seizure today, he never had cluster before and the gap between both seizures were 2-3 hours. I think the trigger might be the heat, since its almost 40°celcius here.

An older dog having seizures for the first time is a bit of a worry. Thankfully for younger dogs, epilepsy can most often be well controlled and not impact quality of life to any significant degree. Hope your not too cold David, sounds like winter has been a bit tough recently

My Mal has mild seizures that can last a few minutes, he walks, and walks crashes into stuff and then he drops to the floor for about 2 hrs. When he wakes up it’s like nothing has happened, but he hasn’t had one in over 6 months after he started his meds.
