Storyline
Kung Pow! Enter the Fist is a 2002 American martial arts comedy film that parodies Hong Kong action cinema. Written, directed by and starring Steve Oedekerk, it uses footage from the 1976 Hong Kong martial arts film Tiger & Crane Fists (also called Savage Killers), along with new footage shot by Oedekerk, to create an original, unrelated plot.

You gotta let me know your favourite quotes from this one!
WEOOO WEOOO WEOOO!
edit: okay, it's actually THAT'S A LOT OF NUTS!
I'm with Kurahaara86; The "weooo weooo weooo" lines of dialog remind me of Paula Abdul, for some reason. Also: James Earl Jones is/was the voice of CNN and Mufasa.
“That’s a lot of nuts!!!” I’ve quoted it way too often to people who hadn’t seen the movie….
Weeoooo
My favorite quotes? " whagggg!" and "You have mastered your technique YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO BEAT HIM NOW!!"
Kung Pow is low key one of the funniest things ever made. It is so damn bizarre, but so quotable.
My spouse and I always go "birdie!" in Betty's voice when we see an interesting bird outside. We must appear crazy to passersby 😅
i got jealous when i was reading comments how people laughed so hard they were gasping in theaters haha
@@Flufferz626i used to do that too as a kid I forgot all about that line till i saw your comment
you go that way, ill go home

-Orson!
-Welles!
THAT'S A LOT OF NUTS! 😆 Seriously, though: the fact that this never got the sequel that Jeebus intended just proves how b'dong a lot of people are in the head 🤷♂
That bit got me. Completely out of nowhere 😂
I love that part, plus product placement at taco bell, and also betty being mad that he was called sally. I swear it's a masterpiece on so many levels haha
I just realized he was purchasing a lot of nuts for his gopher chucks.
The lady rolling the baby down the hill had me dead. It was at that moment I knew it was going to be a hilarious movie. Weird but hilarious. Slapstick dubbing. 😂
Side story: Back in the early 90’s my friends and I would listen to the radio and watch the tv on mute. You’d be surprised how often they match up. 😂
Haha that's funny.
I remember a few years back, me and my old flat mate had music on, while Stargate SG1 played on TV in the background. On mute, but had subtitles on. The hilarious thing was that they were subtitles for a vetenary show.
I've got pictures of general Hammond looking soberingly serious while seemingly saying something about an itchy cats butt 😂
Your side story is like listening to Dark Side of the Moon while The Wizard of Oz is playing.
@@RyanCarringtonKentucky fried movie was the funniest it’s better than this movie😊
Master Pain, what an honor it is having you beating random people in our town.
To the people saying it's "not that good", I say it achieved exactly what it was going for and that's a success in my book.
a win is a win lol.
just goofy and silly as all hell, but it still makes me laugh a lot after all these years
I always appreciate things that spend a lot of effort in pursuit of a silly gag. And on that scale alone this film is a *masterpiece*.
My favorite line is when Kung Fu master tells the Chosen One they they taught Wimp Lo "wrong on purpose". That has been my favorite bit for years. I'll still ask people if they were "taught wrong on purpose" when they're doing something dumb at work. Comedic gold!!!
"Eenie meenie miney moe. I wonder where my glove will go." Is one of my favorite lines, but theres so many good ones to choose from. I really wish that Steve Oedekirk would've made a part 2 to this. I was looking forward to it for the longest time.
You said the writer/ director must be a massive fan of these types of movies. Well.. Not sure if you know this... but the writer/director is Steve Odenkirk.. Who also plays the main character lol. And yes.. he has said he loves the old dubbed kung fu movies.. that's why he did this movie.. to honor them.. in a funny way lol :) Oh.. and there was suppose to be a sequel.. Called "Kung Pow II: Tongue of Fury" LOL.. but he never ended up making it. Not sure why. LOL
i know he made a bunch of Thumb Parodies, i never saw them but this has tickled my nostalgia and curiosity
@@LastTorgoInParis Yes.. Those were hilarious as well! I love Steve Odenkirk.. Very funny guy!!
Probably for the same reason Mel Brooks teases that he will make Space Balls the Sequel: The Search for More Money.
He did mention a few years ago he was working on a sequel that was combining 2 different films but that was probably about 5 years ago and that was from one article and haven’t seen anything since.
You should check some of Steve Odenkirk stand-up shows :D it's hilarious!!!!!
OMG.. I FKN LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!! Been a while.. so glad someone actually reacted to it!! Getting ready to watch your reaction now.. thx!! lol
Thanks for watching 👊🤙
@@RyanCarrington Always! :) I enjoyed for sure!! Thx.
I maintain this is a work of comedic genius. Oedekerk directed the second Ace Ventura, he's a real martial artist, and a true fan of old cheesy kung fu movies.
Me and my friends still quote stupid shit from this movie, 20 years later
when i was a kid i stayed over at my vietnamese friend's house one night and i brought a dvd of this movie over for us to watch and his dad thought it was the funniest thing in the world, he was crying laughing throughout the whole movie
I opened for Steve Oedekerk for a week at a small club when he was a stand-up comedian. We didn't keep in touch but his 'Psychic Severed Head' bit has been in my brain for years. Worth finding an old clip of on youtube.
Just saw this with family today, that "idk" was the best joke in the movie. The movie itself was good at what it wanted to be, a dumb, fun comedy that really only tried to get laughs from the audience
Betty's laugh has been stuck in my head for more than a decade. Ill randomly do it from time to time
One of Oedekerk's early movies was 1992's High Strung. Basically a one man show and quite hilarious.
I cant even begin to elaborate how often i still quote this movie, and im pretty sure i saw this the week it hit blockbuster shelves.
I loved this film back in the day, not seen it in a very long time. We used to quote it constantly, the whole "my favourite member of N'Sync is Harpo" always killed me
Love this film, got it on DVD when it released with all the exteas like deleted scenes and alternate soundtrack with what the cast originally said before making it look dubbed (chosen one was actually hot cross bun). The "sequel" trailer was actually a few extra bits they made and bits of the deleted scenes.
Oh man, last time I searched for reactions to this masterpiece, no-one had reacted to it yet! I'm glad it's doing the rounds now! I friggin' loved it when I was in high school and these quotes hit me right in the nostalgia now.
THAT'S A LOTTA NUTS! 😂
im starting to see more reaction to this. lol. i think this is the third ive seen thus far.
I saw this as a kid and laughed my butt off. I watch it as an adult now I giggle. It's a silly movie but it's one of those movies that if you have nothing better to do and need a good laugh I watch either this or disaster movie or who killed captain alex etc.
23:13. That's my ringtone. Everyone looks at me funny. But I think it's hilarious
This is ahead of its time. Basically a abridge movie. They even tried to gaslight people into thinking that this would have a sequel lol
It was intended to be a trilogy but they could never work out a deal.
The guy who plays Wimp Lo - Lau Kar Wing - is a legit Hung Kuen master and was responsible for some of the best action sequences in the history of Kung Fu cinema - both at Shaw Brothers and for independent productions with Sammo Hung. Love that his character is a joke in this film lmao.
This had me dying during the first watch 😂😂😂
Wow, this takes me back. This was one of the first movies I worked on when I started cutting movie promotional stuff. The studio people we interacted with HATED it. Seriously. They fucking HATED this movie with the heat of a thousand suns. Part of my brain tells me this was left over from a previous studio regime so the current guys had to make sure it wasn't successful or else what's the point of them? On reflection I'm not sure that's true, it's been a while, but it's the kind of thing that happened a lot.
However, Oedekerk seemed to be having all kinds of fun and gave us a lot of material to play with but word came down that some of the digital effects guys were hating life by the time this was finished - not that the work was difficult but they were a long time in post and the jokes tend not to be funny any more after a while. Among ourselves there was some talk about how the reveal at the end that clues the audience in on what exactly they were watching was too little too late - people who knew the source material had a leg up and there really weren't that many in the studio's focus groups that did. Kind of an odd project all around but there's loads of fun stuff in it.
Off the back of this, specifically the tongue thing, Steve Oedekerk did a series of thumb movie parodies over the next few years which you might get a giggle out of. "Thumbtanic" was a big one.
"killing is badong"
-words to live by
truly a gnodab statement
I’m impressed. Nobody does this one. It’s a hoot!
James Earl Jones voiced Mufasa in The Lion King. He also used to do the ads for CNN with that line.
Ohhhhhh!
This is one of my fav movies of all time! Back in the 80s I don't know why but on Sundays regular tv channels would just air these random and terrible old kung fu movies that had no plot and no purpose and the fight scenes were awful. I remember seeing the exact one they used in "Kung Pow" when I was really really young. The iron hand on the chain ripped people's faces and body parts off and I remember it scared the fuck out of me. When "Kung Pow" came out in theaters most people went because of the trailer because it featured the Matrix fight scene with the cow. I guess people thought it was a Matrix parody, and it's not. It's a stupid imported kung fu movie parody.
I saw it on opening night on a date and the theater wasn't packed but it was seated pretty well. By time the lights came on and the movie was over I knew a lot people seated in front of us walked out but hadn't realized EVERYONE walked out except us and another couple, and we were still laughing our asses off.
They took it to the next level. During filming, the modern actors were speaking gibberish lines in English so they wouldn't sync up with the dub.
9:43 “hey guys what’s goin on? BOOOFF!”
😂
CLASSIC - The whole movie used an old martial arts film, dubbed over the top of it and re-edited and superimposed the main characters face over the original main character and made it into a spoof
LEGENDARY IDEA!
To me, this is hands down one of the greatest comedy movies ever made. So many quotable moments, and the writing is honestly really good.
The director commentary track for this on the DvD was awesome. Lots of insight into how much effort goes into certain things, and how little went into some things lol. Theyre well aware that its no comedic masterpiece, but it was a passion project and imo still came out as a very good comedy with an extremely unique charm.
Some of it I grew out of laughing at, but far more of it is still so darn funny. (I wanted to quote the sound that Ling makes, but I don't even want to try to spell it.)
This movie is stupid funny!! It's right up there with The Toxic Avenger and Kentucky Fried Movie.
FYI the main actor is Steve Oedekerk he is also the writer and director
i think he did ace ventura too
This is one of the few films I’ll rewatch years later and laugh hysterically at a joke I completely forgot about.
the way the baby rolled outside reminded me of the creatures in Critters haha
Tiger & Crane Fists was the base movie for this film. If you want to see a very good real Kung Fu movie, 36 Chambers of Shaolin is really good. I love this one though. Stupid humor can be fun.
Suddenly have the urge to listen to Wu Tang 😂
one of, if not the best, film ever made.
i remember i saw this as a kid and i laughed and laughed. ahh precious youth
The director took 2 old Kung-fu movie, edited them together recorded almost all the voices himself, and cat himself as the main character. He also made a bunch of short spoof movies where all the characters are played by thumbs with faces. See Thumb Wars and Thumbtanic.
"We are both ventriloquists
but now we're upside down..."
- "I swing a bit more."
- "I swing a bit less."
"But we both swing
if you know--"
Bewildered is too smart a word for this movie
The nuts guy was also using a mobile phone 😂
You didn't like this movie? I IMPLORE YOU TO RECONSIDER!!!
😂😂😂
o i'll kill him, i'll kill him dead. with like a rock or something...like a stone.
I used to watch this movie with my ex like 20 times but we we're usually really stoned while watching it hahaha !
it's definitely not as funny now but this still holds a special place in my heart.
100 percent Kung Pow is hilarious. People who don't find it funny are the ones who think you can only watch educational shows or movies. I first watched this at age like 13 and it's still the funniest movie to me. I still love anchorman as well so my humor may be telling, but kung pow was the funniest thing i've ever seen. I quote it to this day
Saw this at a sleepover when i was 11 years old. Classic film.
This is like the first meme movie. For real. Truly a masterpiece.
This movie is one of my favourites!
Such a blast to watch when you need a good laugh 😂
"Who are you?"
"Ling's father..weeu weeu weeu.."
Ok, if you’re gonna tackle this, go for Kung Fu Hustle, subtitle version.
I've got that sat on my desktop. No idea what version it is, though! I didn't know there were different ones.
@@RyanCarrington The Cantonese version is the original. It is so much funnier than the English dub.
@@RyanCarrington just my opinion, but the English dubbed version loses so much flavor in translation.
remember that weird al one...where he is like rambo lol UHF...that one kills me too
I was in elementary school when this came out, and I'm still upset he never made the sequel
if you notice the main dude never interacts with the dog
Saw this movie when it hit theaters and I laughed my ass off.
I still sing that Taco bell song regularly, and quote the Nuts part. I wasn't even watching your video, I had it playing in my head.
Right at the start you weren’t sure if this was gonna be good or bad or goodshit. It’s definitely some goodshit. Wee oh wee oh wee. She cracks me up. So many bits are hilarious. Ridiculous. But hilarious. The baby fight at the start sets the tone perfectly.
The chosen one is the writer director he funded it himself is an an accomplished director and filmed a lot of it in his backyard I believe.
Fun Fact:
Did you know that the guy that did Kung Pow got sued really hard 20+ years later? Because he made this movie when Blue Screen was a new thing, and he took a unknown kung fu asian movie from the 70s, and then he edited himself into it through blue screen and also dubbed everything himself except one lady voice.
He is also a childhood friend with Jim Carey hence the reason he wrote and directed Ace Ventura 1 with Jim.
But Kung Pow really shoot himself in the foot in regards of copyrights :D
there's also a documentary of how he made this movie :D
The greatness of this movie doesn’t come from the content, but from the highjacking of an old movie
I was genuinely impressed by that.
Saw this opening night... packed theater. We had the last seats, front row right. We were sat next to a man who laughed like... inappropriately. Loud and shrill and preemptively to the jokes... and this man was our ride. (Nice guy, but dear lord you could feel the stinkeye everyone in the car was giving him on the ride back to our cars. It was his first date with our friend, and possibly the worst night out ever) The rest of the theater was having a blast, but the whole front section was ready to stomp us because of him.
Favorite quote is the whole "Mmmmm.... tiger. Tiger tiger tiger. Bird. Birdy..." scene.
Was it Rich Evans?
one of my all time favorite movies. first saw it when I was like 7, now I’m 26
It’s everything it’s supposed to be as a movie. That’s why it’s hilarious
"WE ARE CHILDREN, WE ARE CHILDREN, WE ARE CHILDREN!!!!"
16:09 It's the French Alien spaceship very clever.
It's a specific kind of humor that some just can't appreciate. I love this movie.
This movie is the prime example of "so bad it is good".
This movie is definitely a product of its time. If I watched it for the first time now, I'd probably not like it, but seeing it back in my early 20's... yeah, it lives rent free in my head. I'll probably be quoting it for the rest of my life. I can't drive past a Taco Bell without singing TACO BELL, TACO BELL, PRODUCT PLACEMENT WITH TACO BELL or see a can of nuts without thinking THAT'S A LOT OF NUTS. lol
i THINK i remember they wanted to sell the product placement, but Taco Bell wouldnt but, but they kept it in anyways,
its still good, if anything it was ahead of its time as it preceeded abridged/youtube parody humor that wouldnt happen until over a decade after this came out
BEST MOVIE EVER 11/10
A buddy and I went and seen this when it was in theaters, and I just remember laugh crying the entire time.
James Earl Jones did the voice for Mufasa, in the Lion King. Coincidentally, he also voiced the station breaks for CNN, at one time. He said the line in the movie, "This is CNN". Betty's voice is very similar to a voice that's used for Vietnamese dubs. (Dubbed from Chinese into Vietnamese)
11:13 You definitely do a pretty decent Jess Harnell's Ringo/ Wakko impression.
The scene with Mushu-Fasa...James Earl Jones who was the voice of Darth Vader, was also the voice of Mufasa in Lion King, and did the This is CNN. That's the deal with the This is CNN. They spoofed this either before or After the Character of Bleeding Gums Murphy on the Simpsons. They did it with four characters that time...Bleeding Gums Murphy, Darth Vader, This is CNN and then James Earle Jones...
The other movie where an actor swallowed a fly is in Raiders of the Lost Ark, when Indy tries to stop the Nazis by trying to blow it up with the RPG...During the scene, Paul Freeman, who played Belloq, was doing his lines, and a fly landed and started crawling on his face...right into his mouth...The fly apparently flew out of his mouth...Unharmed...
So I guess they can say, No flys were harmed during the making of this movie...
For a really good old school kung fu revenge film (one that stars "pai Mei" from Kill Bill when he was young, is 8 Diagram Pole Fighter - it's soooo insanely good.
To me most insane part is that someone took actual movie and glued this guy on top of it making it insane.
I missed this on premeire day! Immediately watching
The voice of Mufasa was done by the same guy that used to do the "this is CNN" commercial plugs.
There was just one movie used as source footage. He just bought the tights to it because it was so secure, no one else wanted it.
This was quite a technical marvel back then now people can do this at home
I've just watched this and nearly pissed me pants my favorite bit is the gopher chucks scene
There was a deleted scene on the DVD version where he fights a group of henchmen with his dick while Little Willy plays in the background...no lie.
This movie is a hidden gem. Yes its stupid and genius at the same time.
I haven’t started the video, but I think this is going to be great.
7:45 _Raiders of the Lost Arc_
This is a classic I'm surprised it doesn't get memed more
The joke with the Lion saying "This is CNN" is a reference. The Lion in this movie is Mushufasa, a parody of Mufasa from The Lion King who appears before his sun as a spiritual apparition in the sky similar to what Mushufasa does in thus movie. The original Mufasa is voiced by James Earl Jones, best known for being the voice of Darth Vader. But James Earl Jones at the time Kung Pow was released was also known for voicing the CNN catchphrase "This is CNN"
So the joke is that the guy who played Mufasa said the CNN tagline.
this is my comfort movie because it's just so stupid it's funny to me. lmao
This is one of those movies I’ve always wanted to see but just never got to it. I’m 37 now…I’m a few minutes into it and I’m fucking dying over here 😂 I had to see people’s reactions to that baby rolling down the hill scene 😂
Glad you liked it.
No guilt involved on my part, I LOVE stupid movies. I'm more entertained by B movies than so called "Good" movies.
Btw the reason why this movie exists is mostly because of this scene 11:43
I'd definitely label this movie as "hilariously stupid" 😂
A sequel was announced in 2015 but we still haven't seen it.
This movie is stupid hilarious that’s why I love it
I'm pretty sure the prologue scene inspired Grogu
