- Back in July of 2023, we booked last minute flights to catch the erupting volcano in Iceland. After two failed attempts at getting close enough to the crater to fly, we finally made it. We spent the entire night in the glow of the volcano flying FPV through the crater.
This was one of the most intense flying I have ever done. Flying drones through the spraying lava is all about luck. There are so many uncontrollable elements that could take the drone out at any moment. But on my last couple packs, I finally got my bucket shot.

Hey Parker unbelievable video well done sir great style of video chatting back and forth to camera. Until you went over the mouth of the volcano 🌋. Especially 2 and evening flight. Just got the mark 5 myself haven’t taken it up yet as weather bad in Ireland 🇮🇪. Would you keep it to the stock rates . Coming off avata just looking for cinematic flying. Again well done 👍
On my cinelog20 i played with rates all the time, on my Nazgul 5" V2 HD I think i also adjusted the expo a bit more, its what you feel comfortable with. If you have a RC like Radiomaster Boxer (love this, dont fly with the DJI remote, i had that first) I set button to rate profiles. That way I can switch to my own or stock. And dont forget, you can have BF on your phone and config rates on the go!

You flew over 1000⁰C and your props melted and you say that's crazy? Doesn't seem crazy to me, I give "props" to the sacrifical props.
Awesome footage! I'll be honest...my hands would be shaking because I would be so excited to be there knowing just how epic the footage could be. Would have to cruise a few flights and get my microSD Card back with the GoPro footage...then, just go all out and hope for the best! Honestly though...the experience and anything I got I would be extremely happy with. Iceland is still on my 'bucket list'....but congratulations in getting their and having the experience first hand. And com'on...that thumbnail! That's some click-able stuff! 😉😉😉

Compared to lots of other "let's do stupid things with drones" actions I've seen on YT, this one has one advantage: If you fail, the drone will not cause significant damage to anything, just become one with the lava.

Hey, what are the rules for DJI FPV drone in ICELAND. Can i bring from Latvia, via airport the drone and fly in allowed places in Iceland without issue I got cathegory A1/A3

Thanks for sharing ! I guess you were there on July 21th ? On July 20th the West wall was still collapsed and the volcano spent about a day to rebuild.
