    Thanks for your advice. The leave at the right hand side is not easy to handle. Will practice more.
    When I add the 2nd layer paint on the 1st layer, it will mix the 1st layer's paint together. Perhaps the 1st layer paint not yet dried enough. Or, I put too much pressure on it.

    • @aprilnumamoto8056
      @aprilnumamoto8056  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the leaf on the right, remember to be on your chisel before you can add the flip on the leaf. Also you must go up and over before flipping the leaf. d When adding the second layer of the petals, make sure you picked up more paint, and don't press down too much on your brush. You just want to lay the petals on. It does get easier with practice. Thank you for watching!

    Hi, April, thank you for your classes, are very helpful, I love how you explain every little detail that had help me a lot.
    I have question, do we need a special medium for enamels? Or can we use the same one that is for acrilics?

    • @aprilnumamoto8056
      @aprilnumamoto8056  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bertha Velasquez Hello Bertha, When you use the enamel paints, it's usually on surfaces that are non porous such as tile, glass, metal... And because these surfaces are slick we don't need a special medium to help move the paint. However, when the paint comes out too thick, there is a medium called Flow Medium which helps it thin out slightly since we can't use water when we use enamel paints. Hope that helps. Good luck on your paintings and thank you for watching.

    This is the best one stroke tulip I've seen! I have dozens of Donna Dewberry books, wipe off teaching guides & videos. I've watched hundreds of TH-cam videos. I even took a one stroke class at Michael's. You are by far the best at teaching this style of painting! You take your time and explain it so every beginning can understand it! THANK YOU! April Numamoto I agree with Debbie. Often, maybe because of time constraints, I watch Donna do some paintings on her DVDs that at best aren't impressive and are at times down right sloppy. As I said before, I really like your calm voice and detailed explanations. I have just started to paint. I find it fun and it brings out a type of creative feeling that can be applied. I don't know how to chose the correct paints or brushes to start with. I purchased (2) #12 brushes and a (6) piece set from Royal & Langnickel. My paints are older paints that I have acquired over the past few years - FolkArt, Craftsman. Americana, Artist's Loft, etc.. My blending medium is Slow Dry Blending Gel Medium by Artist's Loft. The technique of leafs starting thin, widening the stroke and then finishing with a thin end stroke is not working well for me. Are the #12 brushes that I am using correct? I know this takes patience and practice. I love your videos and your explanations of "how to". Please recommend more of your videos for a starter. Truly yours, Howard

    • @aprilnumamoto8056
      @aprilnumamoto8056  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Howard Ferguson Hello Howard, Using the correct brushes and paints make a big difference on how your painting turns out especially with this technique. FoldArt acrylic paints are what's recommended because it contains hardly any water. The other paints you mentioned contain more water which can cause paints to get muddy. When you're picking up dark and light color at the same time on your brush, you don't want any water in your paints or they will mix. You can order supplies from OneStroke.com for supplies. Also, you want to use Floating Medium and not the Slow drying blending gel which is the opposite of what you want. Hope this helps. Good luck in your paintings and thanks for watching.

    • @aprilnumamoto8056
      @aprilnumamoto8056  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those mediums are applied after the paintings are finished to protect them. Glazing medium can also work If you cannot find the floating medium, They are in small bottles like the paints. Thank you for watching.

    • @aprilnumamoto8056
      @aprilnumamoto8056  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on the size of the canvas If going big as a 16"X 24" will need floating medium. Something that will allow the paint to glide on the surface. Even a little water to your paints will work. Just be careful not too much or the colors will get muddy. Hope that helps. Thank youfor watching.

    Good job with the one stroke technique, but the painting would have been so much better if you used a quality acrylic paint and not craft paint. If anyone doesn't have Flow Improver, a matte gel medium will work just fine.

    • @aprilnumamoto8056
      @aprilnumamoto8056  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably can use a better quality acrylic paints but need the correct consistancy to use this technique without the colors mixing together. These paints work perfectly, just open, squeeze and paint. Instant gratification. Water can be used in place of the floating medium, just a little harder to work with. Try using your paints and let me know how you do. Thank you for watching.

      You can order from Amazon. Floating Medium by Folk Art. It's a clear, medium that allows paint to glide easier when painting on porous surfaces Hope that helps. Other brands come very watery which is not good when you are picking up two or more colors on your brush. Thank you for watching..

    April, If I were using this multi-purpose paint on ceramics and glass, would I bake it like I do when I am using the enamel paints?

      +Deirdre Powers You can either let it cure for 21 days or bake in the oven like your enamel paints. If you are baking it, I would let the paint dry a day or so before putting it in the oven. I found that this multi surface is a lot stronger than the enamel paints especially it you paint on metal. Thanks for watching.

    You make it look so easy you are fantastic the best teacher ever I wish you would have had a teacher like you when I was younger such a beautiful painting in my daughter's getting better and better all the time Peggy . She enjoys going to your classes my mother was artistic she used to make artificial planters her Main thing she like to make the most was Ming trees and then get those little pieces of you know Bridges and little little figurines and make a story out of it people walking on the bridge .

    Hi, I was wondering, are all acrylic paints considered multi surface? I have many acrylic paints in my arsenal, but never really thought about them being multi surface. Is there really a difference???

      Crafting This All acrylic paints are not all multi surface paints. Only if it says it on the label. If they are old paints and are fine art acrylic paints, most likely they aren't. Multi surface paints are found at craft stores and it's a fairly new type of paint that several companies are coming out with. Being a decorative painter, having one paint that works on most all surfaces is a great product. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

      I use a sketch pad when I do demonstrations. You can always paint on a wrapped canvas which is one of my favorite surfaces. I also enjoy painting on glass.
