I’m a new podcaster and upgraded from the FIFINE AM8 to the K688 connected to the Rodecaster Duo. This was a very helpful review. The SM7db is on the wishlist but I’m content with the K688 performance!
Listing to standard smushy TH-cam audio, as most people will be, tbh I thought the 688 took it, but it really is very close, and from an audience pov bother are perfectly acceptable.
I think many people purchasing mics overlook this fact. What is your audience predominantly using to hear your content? If it’s mobile phone speakers then you might want to reconsider spending 5X the price
For me, the mic B was better sounding. Not a huge difference but it was more dynamic. That is why comparisons are great, you can find that cheaper is better. Works for me!

I was surprised by the K688 performance in comparison as well. I had to return the SM7dB after this video so it's definitely on my wishlist as well. 😆

It was closer than i thought it would be. Kudos to Fifine for making some quality, affordable mics.

@@the_uncledandy so true. that's where your analytics come in handy. you can learn what types of devices people are watching/listening on.

I was surprised how close they really did sound. great mic with some useful options at an affordable price.
B sounds so much better. The plosives on A sound compressed and overall the sound is of lesser quality.
It's going to cost a lot less too ;)
