The replacing of "baby" for "lambkin" just made this song far more endearing and sweet. I can't explain how or why it feels better, but it just changes the depth of feeling.
I mean, I generally find it icky to call a lover "baby" it feels weird. Maybe I'm messed up for it, but to me it just feels like treating your lover as someone who's less capable than you, instead of seeing eachother as equals which is pretty dang important. I always feel like lovers are supposed to be like super best friends, no? And I feel like a friend deserves more respect, I dunno. It's not that deep, I just feel like I'm supposed to explain. I'm not trying to cancel anyone for having a different opinion than me 😅 But anyways, I also like how bardcore tends to replace it. No clue what lambkin's supposed to mean, but that's fine. I do not know the originals well, but I am always astounded by the quality of these covers! As someone who has read all of Shakespeare's sonnets and plays, I have learned the different forms of thou and their proper uses and thus become extremely irked when I see it done wrong by imitators. But in regards to your work, I have never seen a linguistic flaw! And it sounds true to medieval vocals and instrumentals, from what little research I have done. This was absolutely splendid!
It is DEFINITELY not true to typical middle age music in any part of Europe lol. I love these pastiches but I really would hate the idea that people thought this was actually an accurate rendition of music in the middle ages. They are at best a populist idea of what that would sound like and frankly, that's probably better for the music and it reaching a wider audience. Historical accuracy can bog art down pretty quickly.
When I said it was true to medieval music, I was referring more to the fact that one can clearly see the inspiration taken. Something I've noticed in true medieval music (Wynter Wakeneth al my Care for example) is that the vocals are greatly emphasised. In this period there is also a lot of Latin chant in because of the Catholic Church, which again plays mostly with the voice. I've seen instrumentals too, but they tend to be more of an accompaniment. Forsooth I know it's not historically accurate and I was not attempting to claim that. I more meant that she accomplished her goal exceedingly well.
