My generalization of who best fits each is: tall lanky smooth swingers (Ernie Els) are DG because the HANDLE is SOFTER and it helps them time their impact, whereas shorter, more aggressive into the ball to overcome their lack of leverage (Rory) need a FIRMER HANDLE to better manage transition = Project X. And as seen in this video, Project X has at the very end of the Shaft a very slightly less tip stiffness which helps launch for shorter people. When I was younger and fast I played a set of Flighted Rifle 6.5s - just loved them - such consistent launch. Now that I'm older and slower, I've moved down a weight class and play DG 120 S300s at 118 grams I believe - I created my own hybrid set by transitioning my 2 longest irons, 6&5 at 28 & 24 degrees to Steelfiber i110grams Stiffs - for better launch conditions - it's a bit crazy but it works. As a bit of an aside, I think what this video also highlights is that the Mizuno 223 really isn't that forgiving and that most if not all amateurs should really be playing the 225 - especially now that it is smaller - hell, I'm still a 5 handicap and play 919 Hotel Metal Pros PW-7 iron weakened 2-degrees at (47,42,37,32) because they are just so forgiving - I transition to HMBs for the 6&5 for the thinner soles. As maybe a follow-up comparison video, I would love to see a lighter but still player's-weight comparison of 2 'competing' shafts in the range of 105 to 118, maybe graphite (Steelfiber or other) versus steel, or an interesting steel vs steel comparison (one of the Elevates, or Project X IO, DG 105, etc) in a head more like the 225 or similar
That 223 head just doesn’t work for me. Keep wanting to like it but never get good results. You listed a couple video ideas I have planned with both lighter and identical weight steel v graphite.
the Project X 6.0 is 120g not 125g and yes, it would have been nice to know exactly which DG tour edition model at the start of the video. I picked up S400 on the picture at the end. Shame because good video...
Great video as always. I have played both of these shafts over the past 25 years and here are my thoughts. The DG for me plays a little more true to flex rating and I have played both S300 and X100 and could play them similarly while still getting the feel I wanted from a golf club. The Project X plays a bit stiffer per flex and I was sensitive to getting the flex exactly right. I usually played the 6.0 flex but did try a 6.5 once and it felt like I was swinging a board.
Modus I cannot hit with, I tried many weights/shafts. However, when I try DG or Project X Rifle, the shots are way better. I'm not a heavy hitter, I thought I would fit into Modus ..the dispersion was bad.
The Modus line is pretty all over the place, it's not simply changing weights. Profile changes with it. The 120 for example is a good average golfer shaft that companies can use as the stock shaft, but not always the most consistent shaft. I just refit a scratch from Modus 120 into Steelfiber 95cw and they found the results much better.

AJ, it looked like you struggled to time up that heavy DG shaft.
I did with that in-between distance shot I picked. Going full swing I felt okay, the 3/4 shot was difficult.
What mat insert are you hitting off of? Not crazy about my current mat, so would like to add an insert like you have. Thanks.
Mine is the SIGPRO 4x10 mat. You can also just buy the inserts if you already have a cutout space.
