My grandmother was a huge Guiding Light fan from its origin in radio until her passing in 1993. Ave Maria was her song, and was a huge fan of this version. She passed watching her favorite show, and Ave Maria was sang at her funeral.
Wow...I always felt it was such a HUGE mistake when GL wrote Mike Bauer off the show...Without even any fanfare either..Disgraceful.....If I had been the headwriter (haha), I would have given Mike at least two sons so that the Bauer name could continue for generations to come. Hope Bauer was great, but Mike should have had two sons to carry on the name.

Don Stewart was such a presence, as Jerry verDorn is now. He had some quality about him that enhanced the show and it never recovered from losing him.
