Pretty cool change of pace from the usual speaker destruction, I'd like seeing more of these alongside the usual vids too! Also Corey singing was hilarious
Garret been watching since I was about 7 and I’m 18 now. Love this new style of video and because of you my audio collection has really grown over the years!
Thanks! And i can see you ain't kidding shows you subscribed like 7 years back haha :D Sound and audio gear is so fun still I legit keep learning things on the subject of old and new stuff, I also love when the fandoms cross a bit for like electric tornado sirens and even fire alarm systems and intercoms :P
@@GarretClaridgeMeerkat did not know your friend Corey actually started MMA class hey, for your next video I recommend using the THX deep note since You like blowing up speakers why not try that? Put on some trailers from. THX and put the bass up they'll cause a fried speaker
I rebuilt a 18” set just like this. I bought new tweeters for the horns, bought new goldwood 18” drivers, sanded and painted the cabinets, mounted all the new drivers, had one bad cross over. So bought two new crossovers, installed them and I had a bad ass set of speakers. I had $200 total invested in them. Sold them for $1500.
what a funny coincidence, seeing those speakers on your channel! my father always had a pair of those and now also has a pair of s4115h mkii. great, natural sound and very loud without needing a big amp.
Very cool to see these old boxes still functional. I'm also working on a pair of old EAW speakers that were used in the 93s. Ngl, I think old PA gear sounded better than it does today. (but there is so much heavy and bulky haha, my back hurts just seeing this video)
YEAH GARRET!! You are one of the people who got me into audio, I used to look up to you so much when I was a little kid man. It’s great to see you back!
Yamaha makes awesome stereo stuff I have an early 90s Yamaha YST-SW200 Powered subwoofer with 2 6 inch drivers and it sounds amazing especially on low frequency's
I've seen many of your previous speaker destruction videos. It's so nice to see you actually repairing a pair of speakers, especially a nice pair of vintage speakers such as these. I would like to see you make more videos like this one. BTW, as you were testing out these speakers after the repair, I thought it was funny that you briefly played what I call the "speaker death" song that killed off all your other speakers in your speaker destruction videos. Anyway, nice job repairing these speakers. I bet they sound great in person.
HEY gah think I seen you while I was hung ass over at timmies in the line, Must have been you with a backpack playing trippy animations gaaah sorry i didn't say hi
@@GarretClaridgeMeerkat we did talk that night by the pillars in main lobby when you were explaining to me about that random guy crashing at your room and throwing up etc lol also my channel name used to be 30GB when i told you that night
Make sure to keep that ALTEC horn I restored pair of ALTEC 604-8g speakers best speakers I have ever herd and efficient only need clean 10watts and holy its loud really clean best sounding speakers I have ever herd
There's a model by TOA very similar to these in Cheltenham town hall Gloucestershire.Believe the horn baffle is used to help even performance across the Freq. The TOA have pitzos as well
I just bought some speakers similar to these, one of them is completely blown out, I hope that the crossovers are still functional. I want to fix them up, this video is my inspiration for fixing up my blown speakers ❤️
I also like to take apart speakers but seeing you do what I think is better makes me want to follow suit and learn more from you thanks if you don't mind
had a pair of those picked up for free 1 was broke woofer blown and tweeter dead the other was 100% functional and orginal they are efficient as hell and loud had to demolish them bc the cabinets where in really bad state and they are heavey i sold the horns and compression drivers and filters to an yamaha collector and gave the woofer to a friend of mine to fix a other vintage yamaha PA speaker
right on, yeah with an MDF cabinet they really had to be stored correctly, even blown out the woofers are worth something as you can get aftermarket drop in cones
I just got a nice pair of 1980's Yamahas, which apparently have the same woofers and horns, for free. They belonged to a church, which 20 years ago had bought a whole new sound system and stored the old one in the basement. They're just a bit unsightly, because they're covered with this white fake fur stuff, which in the basement has come into contact with some rusty tools, which of course have left their marks. Technically the speakers are perfect, the sound is good, but I will be needing a new set of cables to connect them with the Peavey M 4000 amp that came with them. I don't know if the Peavey still works, but it does power up, so I may be getting some sound out of it soon.
I believe the original horn drivers were on the weak side. We had these speakers at my school in the 1980s and the horns were at least two times blown from whatever use they saw in the music room.
Holy smokes, Altec driver! You could probably flip these and get them a new, active set of speakers they could mount on the wall / ceilling :))) Still nice to see the old Yamaha's running again.
Dude them altec horns are worth a lot and are some of the best stuff take them home holy shit or sale them to me haha 😂 loved your videos since I was a lil boy
Holy shit, I have like the same speakers... They're tanks and they pump like hell. The woofers are great but the tweeters are shattered... Need a replacement
oh yeah i need to get my ass going on projects for sure, i have lots stored away from when i didn't want to be seen or heard much but kept finding funny items for video topics

this is much different from your usual content, I like it! really cool to see you fixing some old speakers instead of destroying them 😃
He had a video several years back where he was reconing an 18” woofer that was pretty good. But yeah, it’s rare when he makes videos like this haha
I always love it when neat old stuff like this gets saved from being put out to pasture!
I like both haha
