Some viewers biggest experience of this film is seeing me throw a can over board. The only thing they find worth commenting.
In 1996 there were no recycle options at the destination, it would have been piled in a land fill, burned or dumped in the sea.
Better put metal cans on 4000 meters depth, could even serve as home for biological life as it slowly degrades into its original state.
All plastic was taken ashore and probably burned by the authorities.
And to get some perspective: what would be the environmental impact of flying across the Atlantic instead of sailing?

So if you care about environment ...here are some better questions to ask me:
1) Why did you build a boat out of oil and only used it for 7 years?
2) Why did you fly home from the first leg of your journey?
3) Why did you pull your boat with a car for so many miles?
4) All that equipment and stuff you bring along are all based on the oil industry for their building and transporting - why do you use this stuff?
These things probably have a negative effect of a million cans on the ocean floor.
