No offense, but I prefer my Dakine MT bike backpack, holds 100oz of water, has a back protector, and even full of water can still carry a lot more. It was $134 but worth it. Had it for 9 years, hit by 4 cars, and it still looks good and works properly.
Just got a nice bag from Chrome, the Brigade backpack. I've only had it for a couple of weeks, but the thing is built like a tank, and fits nicely in the middle of my back without impeding my arms in any way, and doesn't sway around while riding like a lot of other bags have in the past.
I am in the market for the Chrome citizen right now and wasnt really sure if I schould spend that much money. I literally love this bag but still I wasnt sure. You just made a deal for Chrome with this awesome Video! Thanks bud
So awesome watching your channel grow Zach! Look at you dude! Getting sponsored content from Chrome industries! Congrats dude and looking forward to more progression from you😄
I have a mini citizen and put a soda 12 pack in it. Cliff's notes: it worked, but was anything BUT comfortable. I mean the load stayed in one place to be fair. Which was over my shoulder blade, top of my hip bone, etc.
Really nice, and informative! Of course, at my age, doubled WalMart bags are "lifetime", so there's that. *heh* My first track bike, a Gitane Interclub, came without eyelets, nor any drillings. I later called upon one of my bicycle mentors, Minnesota's Chris K., to add some fixtures before he repainted the frame to a more tasteful color (using DuPont Imron). Still later, when Blackburn started up, the thing was to have a rear Blackburn rack attached, to which as needed we could bungee a plastic crate. Voilà! Tricky part: you had to remember there was a crate there (and a bag and a half of groceries), so you didn't kick the bike out from under you as usual.
Damn dude it took me 7 minutes to realize I'd been duped into watching a 12 minute ad for Chrome bags. My Chrome Bravo hasn't held up very well from 2 years of "daily abuse" (though I actually care for my bag quite well).
I remember watching when you first started and I just want to stay am so proud to see you grow and become the person you want to be getting over your problems it makes me happy #gear head #fixie_gang proud of you really am
Those horizontal straps on the side of your backpack. The ones that attach to the webbed compartment. You could put your tripod on the side vertically and use those to cinch it there.
Depends on the size of the tripod the straps on the Chrome Barrage will hold small tripods but as the weight gets heavier the straps will slip out> now logic say tie the ends in knots to stop the slippage right?..... Wrong you will make the external cargo net ineffective for use with bigger items. if your a photographer like me go in for one of the Photography Bags they wear nicely and hold every piece of Photography gear you could imagine. I have the Niko Backpack, not the Shoulder bag... there is a difference now the bag I have is not currently on their website but I found it on Amazon, Back the Barrage it has some good space big enough for several 2 liters of soda four at last count to the store. Once I used it to clean trash off the beach and it was loaded up and still after I emptied it noting of the material was damaged. 2 year and counting not a single problem.
ok as a man who wears Chrome almost exclusively (I have four bags of there's) I can tell you a that A) The barrage is a good thing but lacks in certain areas since the redesign was put out B) The single shoulder bags are cool if you ride or do Messenger work, but...... for god sake unless you do C) serious messenger work or food delivery or deliver to the American college of morticians and Medical Examiners dont even think about getting the Barrage pro I saw it in use and it will haul an ikea chair in it with some rugs as well (was up in seattle for that sight). Anyway, you can ask me just about anything I will do my best to answer your guy's questions. No Chrome did not pay me, or endorse me!!!
ive been on the bus for years because I couldnt walk a month and a half a go I couldn't walk without cane then I was gifted with a bike and I ride it every where now im looseing weight and im active again your videos are filled with great info thanks dude im also in sd if you do a video on those bike trails I see you on that would be awsome
Hey Zach, congratulations on the promo and thanks for bringing up the topic. I also own a Chrome backpack and I love it, especially for being completely waterproof and having this fancy net to keep all the loose stuff. But even knowing you got supported, why is there only around 3 min of alternatives? You didn't even mention saddle-, handle bar- or frame-bags, which are the go-to solution for most people I talked to, particularly if it's about longer distances than a regular commute. Read: "On a multi-day trip, don't carry stuff on your bag"
Really happy you’re working with chrome!! I filled out one of their surveys and recommended your channel to them. I love their stuff too so this is extra awesome hahhahaa but me personally I use an ortlieb bag and used it for everything including groceries. The only thing I’d change is having an exterior strap for the lock
You should check out Life Behind Bars if you want a decent messenger bag that is actually viable long- term, really awesome system of a reversible strap, secondary strap for your other shoulder, etc. Also waterproof, external carry system, etc. Oh and they dont cost an arm and a leg.
Botton line .. is a good strong rider needs to be equip and prepare and ready to handle any situation. . Period! You need to have bags and racks to make your journey tough Fight on !!
Chrome has really abandoned its courier and cycling focus within the last few years to focus more on streetwear stuff. They’ve discontinued a ton of previously great stuff like their merino cycling tees and the Folsom pants (which they killed off in something like 6 months, despite being the absolute most comfortable cycling pants I’ve ever had. So much for for that warranty when my zipper failed). Their quality control has also gone way down over the last few years with stitching and stuff. I can never recommend them. Better to support a real sole courier bag focused company like vessel or trash over a company that realized that after college kids kept buying citizen bags for fashion, that they should adapt their entire focus to them
You're right that Chrome has definitely gone more mainstream, but they're also definitely invested in the messenger community. At least in NYC, they frequently sponsor allleycat races, and they'll have the post-race parties at their stores, often with free beer. I've had my bag from them for over three years, and I've had no issues. I did have the bottom of a Chrome shoe crack, but that was after 18 months of daily use and probably close to 10K miles of riding, so overall I have a positive impression of Chrome.
Hey, Zach Big fan of your videos. I’m building up a Fuji Feather and I’m in love with it. I was wondering if you or anyone you know has any experience with the Factory 5 Pista wheelset that Retro-Gression sells? It looks lightweight and hella proper, but I can’t find any reviews online. But I also feel like Retro-Gression doesn’t really sell junk, so it might be trustworthy. Thoughts?
I have a barrage cargo and put my u-lock in one of the open side pockets. The Zippered one is meant for small stuff like a wallet, tools, etc. Seeing you put a lock in there looks like a struggle
Aren't you supposed to put your lock in one of the side pockets of the Barrage Cargo? That's how I do it and how I saw it advertised first. One for my lock, the other one for my bottle but of course you can do whatever you want It just seemed weird to me! Nice vid btw
I am planning to buy a cheap MTB, install every rack possible and it can be my shopping bike. Hate carrying lots of excess weight on my track bike when my own fat ass is too heavy already
I have a metropolis bag and i have carried at least 50 kg of weight .... Its wierd and shitty but it is true about them being durable but it comes with a biig price tag they aint cheap
anyone has an idea on how the welterweight messenger bag adjusts (tightening/loosening)? it seems rather clumsy for adjusting on the bike and its different from other systems with the D-ring (i think)
Hi Zach, Really cool and informative video as always, but didn‘t you say you would never let a company pay you, which ultimately destroys your objectivity? In the end, I kinda felt like in an advertisement for Chrome bags...
I always use armed forces backpacks, anything from a 3 liter hydration pack up to a 65 liter hikingpack depending on how much crap I want to take with me.
My absolute favorite being 30 liter cheap-ass old-style bundeswehr nockoffs, cause they're, well, cheap as dirt, take abuse and if they break you just go to the next surplus dumpstore and get new one, no biggie.
Hey Zach! I’ve watched a lot of your videos, and I noticed you usually say that any complete from Aventon is often a good first fixed gear. Since it is in the same price range, do you think that a bike from Throne Cycles would also be a great starter? I see many people review Aventon’s and never Throne’s. Is it because they components are worse, or maybe it’s just not well-known yet?
If I use a bag, my hands start to hurt because of the additional weight put on them. My bike also doesn't have any tire clearance to speak of and also no holes to fit racks and such. Seems like I am doomed.
step 1) buy an overpriced hi-ten steel bike that rides like dick step 2) buy an overpriced messenger bag from chrome step 3) buy a couple of 40s of high life at the end of the day to go with your ibuprofen for back pain step 4) make a video about it on yt
This is the longest advert I've ever seen
The video starts with a promo code. No shit.
it's helpful tho. I had some questions about rear vs. front load. Then its an advert but W/E! Get the man paid!
Glad to see your channel is growing and getting sponsors; it's about time you've been making high quality videos for a while.
Chrome sells some nice looking stuff! Congrats on your sponsorship!
I practically stole a chrome barrage off of eBay for $71 awesome considering they retail at $180+. Really like the lifetime warranty assurance.
No offense, but I prefer my Dakine MT bike backpack, holds 100oz of water, has a back protector, and even full of water can still carry a lot more. It was $134 but worth it. Had it for 9 years, hit by 4 cars, and it still looks good and works properly.
I award zach 10 fixie points for being able to whip his bag around faster than my Nana can whip up some mashed potatoes.
I keep eyeing this bag . Think I might just jump on it. Love the quality of their panniers.
Just got a nice bag from Chrome, the Brigade backpack. I've only had it for a couple of weeks, but the thing is built like a tank, and fits nicely in the middle of my back without impeding my arms in any way, and doesn't sway around while riding like a lot of other bags have in the past.

military style backpacks are good too. built tough and have multiple loops on back to attach odd and bulky items. Just remember to pack extra cordage.
So awesome watching your channel grow Zach! Look at you dude! Getting sponsored content from Chrome industries! Congrats dude and looking forward to more progression from you😄
hopetofly yes but we dont want half the videos to be ads, as it happens with GCN cycling
I have a mini citizen and put a soda 12 pack in it. Cliff's notes: it worked, but was anything BUT comfortable. I mean the load stayed in one place to be fair. Which was over my shoulder blade, top of my hip bone, etc.
My Chrome Citizen Messenger bag is 7 years old and looks brand new!
He looks like he’s been getting buff
Really nice, and informative!

I don't ride a fixie for my commutes (hardtail MTB), but most of your content apply to bicycling in general, and I like that. Best of luck!
Love how Riv/VO/Compass is influencing the build. Looks far more useful with the frenchy bars, rack, basket, and fenders!
I bought a $200 chrome backpack because of this video and i love it!!
Damn dude it took me 7 minutes to realize I'd been duped into watching a 12 minute ad for Chrome bags. My Chrome Bravo hasn't held up very well from 2 years of "daily abuse" (though I actually care for my bag quite well).
I have both cityzen and barrage cargo, never been disappointed, considering the small bag for exploring and stuff
I’ve easily carried a 38 pk of beer in my citizen bag no problem. Just had to remove the box
I remember watching when you first started and I just want to stay am so proud to see you grow and become the person you want to be getting over your problems it makes me happy #gear head #fixie_gang proud of you really am
Those horizontal straps on the side of your backpack. The ones that attach to the webbed compartment. You could put your tripod on the side vertically and use those to cinch it there.
bullwhip johnson Wow, that's what I was actually thinking as he was meandering about the bag for a proper place to put it!

Yo! When did you make the switch to those sweeping bars from your drops? Would like to hear about that decision!
Small 30$ trailer from wallywurl has made things so easy and the "hitch" is about 2 inch long and 1 inch deep.
Hey Zach, congratulations on the promo and thanks for bringing up the topic. I also own a Chrome backpack and I love it, especially for being completely waterproof and having this fancy net to keep all the loose stuff.

Was honestly wondering what bag you use! I’ve ordered my chrome one now :D
You should check out Life Behind Bars if you want a decent messenger bag that is actually viable long- term, really awesome system of a reversible strap, secondary strap for your other shoulder, etc. Also waterproof, external carry system, etc. Oh and they dont cost an arm and a leg.
Zach your All-City looks quite different from the last time we saw it on the channel! Could you give us a well done update? :D
@8:08 ... or even smarter, you have bags for your luggage carrier. You don't necessarily need a travel bike for that.
i can put all my life in my Ortlieb Messenger Bag !
Botton line .. is a good strong rider needs to be equip and prepare and ready to handle any situation. . Period!
You need to have bags and racks to make your journey tough
Fight on !!
Protip: Buy chrome bags second hand, since they are really durable, they may not look super nice after some use, but still work
Subscribed to you a year ago and just now found this vid after already buying their citizen loool. Trying to configure it to fit my camera gear
So, Zach. What do you prefer for carring heavy staff while riding down the city? A back pack or a messenger bag?
Literally just ordered some pants and a bag yesterday! Why didn’t you make this video yesterday?
Is there any specific name for the type of basket you have on your bike? Been trying to find one, since I have a bullhorn, but no luck so far.
will Chrome endorse him again when they see that he misspelled them as Chome in the title?
i blame the american education system

that's right, they are overrated and overpriced. Why have 100% cotton commuter tees when cotton-polyester blends or merinos are more suitable?
>real courier focused company
>>Vessel
dont greentext me foo
You have to do your due diligence to find discontinued bags. I bought a Niko Chrome Backpack in camo off Amazon from Zappos and was stoked!!!
Hey, Zach
Big fan of your videos. I’m building up a Fuji Feather and I’m in love with it. I was wondering if you or anyone you know has any experience with the Factory 5 Pista wheelset that Retro-Gression sells? It looks lightweight and hella proper, but I can’t find any reviews online. Yes, I concur...ride your bike EVERY DAY!!!
How you enjoying the nitto b603aa handlebars? Looks way more relaxed?
hi, does the messenger bag still have the laptop sleeve anchor points???? cheers
Chrome is the best!!
i live in flat lands, and im waiting on a new gear ratio, its 48-15, is this a good ratio for me?i'm a beginner courier.
What bags do you guys recommend if you're doing uber eats or postmates? Budget is about $100
I have a barrage cargo and put my u-lock in one of the open side pockets.
Best backpack in the world is the Maxpedition Condor. Cheaper and better made. No disrespect Zach.
Zach you consider getting a drone and post some riding footage.
I am planning to buy a cheap MTB, install every rack possible and it can be my shopping bike. Hate carrying lots of excess weight on my track bike when my own fat ass is too heavy already
What kind of shoes were you wearing? DZR?
I have a metropolis bag and i have carried at least 50 kg of weight .... Its wierd and shitty but it is true about them being durable but it comes with a biig price tag they aint cheap
I guess a normal rucksack with two straps is more comfy n better for your back than a one strap one
anyone has an idea on how the welterweight messenger bag adjusts (tightening/loosening)? it seems rather clumsy for adjusting on the bike and its different from other systems with the D-ring (i think)
hey Zach. How tall are you? I'm asking for reference of how big the citizen messenger bag actually is
Hi Zach,
Really cool and informative video as always, but didn‘t you say you would never let a company pay you, which ultimately destroys your objectivity? In the end, I kinda felt like in an advertisement for Chrome bags...
I understand that you are sponsored by Chome but take about a variety of bag brands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always use armed forces backpacks, anything from a 3 liter hydration pack up to a 65 liter hikingpack depending on how much crap I want to take with me.

thanks have ordered . and got a discount
I will never receive payment for a review...
This is a review...
With paid promotion...
Oops
No hard feelings I will still watch
You aint about that mess life
Yeah this is a commercial but I can't lie chrome bags are top shelf and I don't even ride fixed gear
I need tips for mudguards.
I just ordered a chrome citizen bag but I forgot to use your code😢 mb dude
I got a bunch of Chrome bags!
Very good presentation.
Happy birthday to your friend
Can you make a video about how to build a fixie?
I've never liked messenger bags because of the uneven loading across the shoulders/torso.
Love the spongebob bottle
Hey Zach! I’ve watched a lot of your videos, and I noticed you usually say that any complete from Aventon is often a good first fixed gear. Is it because they components are worse, or maybe it’s just not well-known yet?
Timothy Tran can't comment on Throne, but the Crew District is a great alternative that Zach actually mentions. I ride one and it rides like a dream
yep, spong bobo water bottle, fixie point -100
If I use a bag, my hands start to hurt because of the additional weight put on them. My bike also doesn't have any tire clearance to speak of and also no holes to fit racks and such. Seems like I am doomed.
can you try to buy an ave maldea frame and review it
Oh I see what you did! It's not really a video on how to carry stuff on your bike. It's a Chrome bag promo.
Good one, Zach
ayeee chico, ca!
Zach Issa god~ Luis Varagas
Eborleestock main frame
And transformer pack, with bat wings,,,,
The "Rocks" little brother?
Garry got new bars?
The thing about chrome bags is that they’re never used by actual messengers because they’re stupidly expensive and tiny
Your friend Zac?
Would the Kadet fit a laptop?
No way! I have one and I‘d say a small tablet fits, but a regular laptop 12“ and up would not fit.
also trash bags are really good, prolly better.
my chrome citizen 2011 is a literal tank but my new one seems to have worse quality am i the only one ??
I like basket
I wish my grandparents gave me mangos and watermelon went I left there house.
Promo code is invalid
Lol "The one with the bike on it"
I love your channel but I visited a chrome store and their bags felt cheap and not worth their bloated prices
Check out Trash Bags. They're better than Chrome, especially if you're a messenger
Wow they are expensive
!!! SPONSORED!!!!!!
step 1) buy an overpriced hi-ten steel bike that rides like dick
step 2) buy an overpriced messenger bag from chrome
step 3) buy a couple of 40s of high life at the end of the day to go with your ibuprofen for back pain
step 4) make a video about it on yt
How much are u getting paid from this commercial because they are not perfect
