Nasturtium actually have a large seed that can be pickled and serve like capers. Plus I believe the seed can also be dried and ground as a mild pepper substitute.
After a long week working on this video, it is finally up! Hope you enjoy this Mother's Day special on growing edible flowers! Have a wonderful Sunday!

This and a few other TH-cams on this subject have done more to cheer me up than anything I can think of! Great information, learned a number of new flowers that are edible here. Thanks for posting this.
I grew up with a beautiful jasmine vine in our back yard. Blooming time was my fave cuz the whole yard smelled heavenly. So heavenly that one day I decided to may tea out of the blossoms. I quickly learned that not all jasmines are edible. haha My poor stomach. But hey, I was a dumb kid. And luckily, what doesn't kill you.....
Always love a video from Wendiland! Thanks for sharing with us all these wonderful edible flowers! Happy Gardening/Farming Marty Ware (Australian Micro Farmer)
Thank you so much for this. There are so many good ideas in this video. The thought that I couldn't grow edibles in my front yard has been bothering me for a long time. I've been planning on replacing my grass with purslane, and now I have a lot more options to include, so thank you for that! Beautiful and edible are not mutually exclusive. Also, your dog is such a sweetie!
I plan on growing sunflowers, woodland forget-me-nots, lilac, lavender, poppies, Rosemary, thyme, and tomatoes. Yummy yummy I can't wait! Your video has me adding a few more flowers, too.
Excellent vid . Btw, you can eat also the leaves of the nasturtium cooked a spinach, especially in soups ( not raw, too hot taste); the buds can be used in vinegar as capers. So if one day you lack of green vegetables for your soup, just go at your windows and pick two or three leaves of your potted nasturtium. And bon appétit.
I would love to grow some edible flowers. I just bought some rosemary and lavender but want to try something like marigolds or poppies. Thank you so much!
Hehe it took 12 years to get her to sit for 5 min. Usually we would go for a walk first to get her energy out. I still have to run after her sometimes. :)
Poppy.. i once grew that flower i never knew they were edible.. and almost all of those flowers were in my garden😨😲.. but lotus is the most beautiful flower among them😆
I grew up in Riyadh. 😊 For sure, I remember my mum had Marigolds, Roses, Arabian Jasmine (Sambac), and Mint in our garden. Just needs lots of watering after the midday sun. 🌴
Mmm that salad at the end looks delicious! What are those berries?! I'm only just discovering about edible weeds and flowers. There's a lot I don't know. I had dandelion leaves in a salad the other day and i know you can make tea with the yellow flowers they bloom, and about thistle. But I have these greens growing all over my yard that look like lettuce. I tried some, some were mild and some were bitter. My mom is telling me be very careful because some weeds are poisonous.
Yucca alofolia which is better known as Spanish bayonet has great tasting flower petals. The down side is the plant can stab you with its tips. The yucca filamentosa has softer tips than the alofolia. I have not tried the latters petals but I'm pretty sure they are edible to
Supposedly you can pickle caper fruit also, though I am not sure at what maturity. Look at Middle Eastern references. That would allow you to enjoy the flowers while still getting a crop.
Hi Wendi, I bought a rose bush from the nursery more than 5 years ago. Not sure if it was sprayed with any chemicals during the time of purchase but since it has died and regrew for many years, is it safe to eat them? I don't know who else could answer this. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks
Thanks for sharing your edible flowers video. It was very educational and visual. I'm in Fort Lauderdale have decided to start an edible garden. Please let me know of a good seed source where I can buy them from.
hi i am amazing i looked this up because my mum sited some flowers in my garden and she said you can eat them so i had to look this up eating flowers ! i have to do this
Hey when i was a kid there were these tiny little blue flowers that would grow in the wild, they were VERY small and close to the ground, maybe 4in tall or something, but the pedals were very sweet and even the stem and base pedals tasted good, kinda sweet/ tangy, do you know what they are called? The green base pedals kinda look like clovers if that helps
GREAT VIDEO!!! thx for posting! i can highly recommend u oenothera biennis (edible leafs and flowers and very beautiful in the salad). greets from germany :)
+cutie pie Oh I have been wanting to grow this, but it doesn't do well in my zone. oenothera biennis / evening primose is definitely a good one. Thanks for the suggestion! Is it getting cold in Deutschland yet?
hi there! as to evening primose: it´s a pitty that it doesn´t do well in your zone. maybe u should try it again nevertheless? :) as to the weather: yes, it is getting colder, but we had some beautiful sunny days. how about there?
