Beautiful responses, Pat. I resonate so much. I enjoy your videos so much…such a wonderful place on the internet. I wish I could sit down and have coffee, and just talk the day away. Many blessings!
That was wonderful Pat! The other day I watched a young blogger say “do we really need bookstores and libraries anymore?” Could not believe it! Am so worried about our country too. I have physical limitations so cannot take advantage of much exercise but you go girl!!!!!
Thank you for this lovely comment. I shuddered when I read that you watched a blogger asking if we need bookstores and libraries. That is simply horrifying. I similarly watched a very young booktuber that came into my feed of videos, and he made an entire video bashing books that he admitted he had never read, and his followers were praising him to high heaven in his comments. That was all kind of horrifying to me too. Thank you so much for watching and for leaving me such a thoughtful message. I hope you are doing well. Take care.
Wow! I had no idea you were also a psychoanalyst! That is fantastic! I agree that letter writing is a dying art! When I was a kid, I had so many penpals and I loved sending and receiving letters. I've lost touch with all of them, which is just sad. I asked my kids when they were old enough if they would be interested in having a penpal, but they passed on it. Thanks for the tag! I'll have my video out soon(ish)!
I think I have only talked about my analytic studies once before on the channel. I tend to keep that pretty separate. But yes, I have had and still have a completely separate career from my teaching career. I started my studies as a way to inform my teaching, but it became something else entirely. Please don't ever feel pressured by me to do these tags. Just know that I was thinking of you. This one was very thought-provoking.
We share the anxiety and loss of sleep due to the upcoming elections. My news watching days are over (other than the weather😊). The gym and the small children in your life are a much better focus! Thank you for the lovely and thoughtful video.
What a fabulous tag, so lovely to hear more about you and your life, what an incredible person you are. I love your heart for humanity and I’m so with you on being kind, unkindness really rattles my cage too. I also have a faith and love my early morning quiet time, best part of the day😊
I see Ali has beat me to the punch... her enjoyment of your channel matches mine, and she writes her thoughts down so well! And writing thoughts segues to my question.... other than academic requirements, have you ever written anything or want to write?
Thank you so much, Carol. I do write quite a bit, though I haven't tried to publish. I have written some poetry, though I don't think I am much of a poet. I have written a little fiction. Most of my writing, though, is probably nonfiction, memoir-like.
Wow, psychoanalysis! Fascinating! Qualifying whilst doing a full-time (and pretty full-on) job is quite a feat too - I did my Masters degree whilst working full-time and I remember how impossible it felt, and my full-time job wasn't anywhere near as involved as teaching! I also used to regularly over-dose on the news too - I have also significantly cut back on that, for the sake of my nerves/sanity. I still like to be informed about what's going on in the world, but I have to seriously ration my exposure, particularly to television news media. Rudeness - grrrr, yes, a source of aggravation for me too. Letter writing - 'tis indeed a dying art, more's the pity. I used to have several pen-pals when I was younger and loved those exchanges, but that tailed off a long time ago. Although I don't get the opportunity to write actual paper letters these days, sent via snail mail, I do at least get chance to write long emails to friends. In fact, that's how Troy and I became such good buddies - he emailed me with an article about a book he thought I'd like, I replied, and before we knew it we were writing essay-length emails back and forth! There's such value in long-form communication, especially when friends are a long way away and meeting up for a good chin-wag isn't possible! Fabulous responses, Pat - lovely to get to know a little more about you! 😊
Yes, I really have to be careful about how much news I can take in, especially in this election season. My anxiety is through the roof! I, too, am a serious email writer, though I still like to write notes and cards to people through snail mail. Thanks so much for this thoughtful response, Alex.
You never fail to inspire. I love that you’ve cultivated such thoughtful personal time to begin your days and that you treat those hours with such reverence. Just hearing you describe it has a calming effect. Also, less news, more gym time is definitely the way to go. 😊
I am with you on rude people. Just no need. Rude people and bad drivers are my pet hates. Cards seem to be dying away. On my last birthday, I only got a few cards but so many text messages! The world does feel very unstable. Every day now I hear a story I just can't believe.
Hi Helen. Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, bad drivers are a pet peeve of mine too. I used to have a very long commute to and from school. Now that I am not on the highways and by-ways everyday, I find I really don't like to drive as I once did....I hope you're doing well...
I always enjoy your videos. You remind me of two of my favorite teachers Mrs Ford who was a reading specialist and took the tome to not only make sure that I was able to read but also that I was on grade level by the time I went to 8th grade. She worked with me from 2nd -7th grade and somehow she never seemed to have a bad day even though all of her students had various issues with reading and comprehension. The second was my High School homeroom teacher from 8th - 12th grade and my English teacher from 8th-11th grade. She didn’t let us get away with nothing but you knew it was because she loved her students. I often think of where my life would be without those two beautiful women pouring into my soul.
Very cool tag. Enjoyed getting to know you a bit better. I, too, am stressing about the election. It definitely impacted my sleep (or attempts at sleep) last night. Thank god for books!!

Dear Marilyn, thank you for this lovely comment. I am so grateful for your friendship. This was indeed a very thought-provoking tag from Lekten. You will enjoy his version too and now also Gareth’s at Books, Songs, and Other Magic. I also tagged you last week on my own original Joy and Gratitude Tag; I’m not sure if you’ve seen that yet. What a wonderfully interesting tag. Your answers were just beautiful. Every time I hear more about you, I value our friendship more. I feel the same about rudeness, and also about kindness. It costs nothing to be kind but it means everything. This was such an inspiring way to start my day Pat. Just lovely and thank you so much for tagging me 😊
This is a really wonderful video, thank you for it! It is exactly what I hoped the tag would inspire. Maybe more importantly, for those of us watching, you and your life are really inspiring, and this video makes the rest of your content even more meaningful. I especially want to congratulate you on completing the psychoanalyst training and certification while teaching full-time. My sister got her MSW immediately after undergraduate and has worked full-time at a large university as the point person responsible for overseeing the mental health and well-being of all of the students for the last almost two decades, and while doing this, and raising two kids (with a wonderful and supportive husband), she took courses part-time to complete her doctorate in education, and so for the last few years I saw her balancing full-time, meaningful work with intense study, and it was exhausting just to watch it from the sidelines! Which is to say that I have some inkling of how much effort that takes, and it is an incredible accomplishment. Obviously my congratulations don't really mean much, but still I offer them because that is a really phenomenal thing to have done. I do agree on morning time, by the way. I am usually up at 4:30a, and it is some of the best time of the day. My immediate day starts with some very needy dogs and a passie-aggressive cat, who have been trained to expect their breakfast at 4:30, apparently... but once that is out of the way I can make my first cup of coffee for the day, make offerings at my altar and do some spiritual practice, and really start the day in a meaningful way. And then the rest of the world wakes up and everything gets more complicated! Again, thanks for sharing this, it was great to learn a little more about you.
Thank you for creating this very thought-provoking tag. If you read other comments that people are leaving, you will see, I think, that people are responding as you might have hoped. Thank you for telling me more about you too. I have all the respect in the world for what your sister has achieved. Thanks for sharing that part of your life, too.
