It amazes me Lynch even tried this live there are so many layers to Mr Scary
There are many songs that people claim to be "underrated", but this is one of only few truly deserving the term. I've been listening to heavy metal for 30 years and I only heard of it now!
Hell yeah! I only heard of it a couple years ago and it kicks so much ass it's uncalled for!!! I've seen a lot of the performances for this song but this Japanese version seems the best. I've seen one ....documentary maybe from the 80s where George is doing a playthrough of this song and my God does he fking shred every last last doing thing!!! Hahaha. This song is definitely underated and he is def BY FAR one of the best guitarists that ever lived period.
Dokken was a great band sabotaged by a diva lead singer that couldn't really sing. If you go back and tune out the voice on their old mid-late 80s stuff, it's all similar to this. Maybe not quite so much shredd, but there's hints there.
Lynch has long been a guitar god hiding in bands that just couldn't put it together. It's a shame really.
Mick Brown is so underrated! George is a God, but Mick's drumming on this really helps make the song!
agreed....seen these fellas 15 times over the years....mick brown is an unsung hero
This proves what Iv e known for years, George Lynch is a top ten shred master! FN unreal. awesome.
FACT 💯 Mr Scary George Lynch the maestro. Simply the best for all the things that make him the one and only George Lynch 🤟✌️😎
As a young blood guitar slanger all hail to the 80s rock ingenuity
This song is what set Dokken apart form other hair bands. They wrote this song and put it on an album knowing damn well it would never be a hit. And then to play it live! No one in Motley Crue could play this.
Not. In. A. Million. Years. Even at the height of their popularity Mick Mars couldn't play his way out of a junior high talent show...
Mick Mars could play this, it's just not fun for him to cover someone else's shit.
Lynch co wrote Mr. Scary with jeff pilson. Pilson's name is on a majority of the bands material, he sang, played a variety of instruments. Don and george mightve been the image & live sound of the band, but Jeff was the backbone of dokken.
@@Morbidyouth1 Mick while a great songwriter could barely touch any of the guitar heros of the 80s even C.C. Deville is better than him technique wise
Man, the part starting at 2:53 is one of the most amazingly awesome improvisings I've ever heard from a guitarist. It's so ridiculously awesome!
I normally play mostly gypsy swing, which means I'm _heavy_ on the improvising, and critical about it too. That part just still gets me though, hahah. Lynch really kicks ass when he does!
When it comes to Lynch there is no other.
George Lynch bodybuilding song. Awesome.
Dude is PUMPED, man! He really hit the weights after his time in Dokken. Let's see him and Don Dokken get into it now! George Lynch would mop the floor with Him!!!
George Lynch and Randy Rhoads IMO are the only guys in the early 80's that hung with Eddie Van Halen note-for-note and managed to come up with as good or better licks even, and definitely far more creative soloing than EVH I don't care what ANYONE says....
This song made me hope that we'd see more instrumental stuff from Lynch. Aside from Sacred Groove, I can't recall him doing more stuff like Mr. Scary.
Man I like Japan. One of the best metal audiences ever.
Very Unique Guitar Style! I saw a "Vid" with him and Dave Navarro. You can see how his creative imagination works at the Drop of a Dime. Dude never plays the same thing twice! He's always changing his Patterns or Blocks?! Amazing! Thanks for Posting!
As if Mr. Scary wasn't hard enough as it was already?! Friggin' George has to take it to another level! The dude is just to insanely awesome and a serious bad a** guitarist! My hero!
This brings back the best memories....George was a heckuva shredder....still is, and will always be one of my favorites from the hairband days
no one comes close to Mr. Lynch.. I'll finally get the live view of the master this Friday in Sioux Falls, SD at the Badlands Pawn!
Ive been a metal fan for forty years that is bad ass this is the first time i've heard this particular song. to me and my humble opinion it's really good i especially like that bluesy "fog horn from hell " riff.
cannot deny the talent lynch has...hall of fame talent
check this out. if he's ever played better, i'd like to see it. Awesome performance. th-cam.com/video/vSYX-8ND6qo/w-d-xo.html
i love this song...dont you just love this song?
One bad ass solo! Will never get old! Thanks George!
One of my all-time favorite heavy metal tunes!
Satch, Vai, Lynch, Malmsteen, Gilbert, Rhoads, Van Halen, MAB, Romeo, Lane, Becker...
Back when music took skill...
WHERE DID THE 80's GO?
*sniffle*
George looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger!
Eddie was the reason I picked up a guitar, George Lynch made it interesting and a lifelong hobby. Apples and oranges, maybe, but I'll still take Lynch.
George never disappoints.
great song. great performance. great crowd. great scene. great lighting. great energy
Great song and George is the absolute BEST! I just wish that the video footage was just a little less blurry.
This is fantastic. Lynch really got into body building then. He's huge in this.
I just saw him in Seattle in August with Michael Schenker.. After he got warmed up ...no holds barred.. He really works hard at playing his music and putiing on a good show..
I AM CYBERDYNE SYSTEMS MODEL T-2000G.L. I WILL CRUSH YOUR GUITAR PLAYING ABILITIES WITH MY TERMINATOR FINGER SKILLS!! Love George, but he played WAY better before all the roids.
@@sweetcup6694 he was definitely using steroids and has admitted it in interviews, stopped long ago tho
Well I'm not sure but I saw him last year next level guitar skills right in my face.
I was wondering why he played in that pose for most of the song. You can see at :45 that his strap breaks so he goes knee up for the rest.
The strap is not broken; it just falls off when he places the guitar on his leg.
I think he just went for that pose because his guitar was hanging too low to play fast pinky licks with decent accuracy.
Low hanging guitar is good for rythm playing but you need spider long fingers to shred on such a thing.
@@d.7868 Exactly. There's a bunch of challenging shit in this tune. Even he barely hangs on.
Saw him play this live on the Monsters of Rock tour in 1989 at Joe Robbie stadium in Miami. Killer show. It rained during Dokken's performance and Geroge swore some at the techs because he was getting pops and sparks due to the rain water. Poor guy almost got electrocuted.
Always awesome Mr Lynch! Loved this one for YEARS!
A good friend gave me this Japan live concert on DVD years ago after he wore it out. Thank you Tim. It is my inspiration to get in shape.
this is the best of lynch ..love it ..the guy is such an inspiration totally unique
If had to guess why the song is so loved, it's prolly because the song is so much fun for guitarists to play. I haven't met a guy who's mastered this and wasn't having a good time playing it, and people tend to like watching musicians enjoy what they're playing. It's a sort of reciprocal love.
You're right in that the song itself isn't anything difficult from a technical standpoint, but goddamn if it isn't fun to play and listen to.
ive listend to about every performance available here on youtube, and i must say, this one is the best of them all. lynch is sick, not to mention around 20-30 secs into this he drops his strap and leans on the dam monitor playing strapless for the rest of the song. and the sychronization of Him and band from 2:54 to about 3:29 is priceless/... GOod shyt all the way through..
Love this Tone and Awesome Band Don Dokken !!!!! Rock On .....
wow, if there ever was a Terminator made to play guitar, George is model T1,000,001!!! He effin' great!! Thanks TTHERROR for posting this! This video took me out of a funk...now I want to break something and burn it.
I could TOTALLY do that...I mean the standing in the audience part.
Lynch is one of the best. Great to hear a guitarist play more than bar chords.
GEORGE LYNCH IS HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST EVER! Rockin wit dokken!
I usually don't like instrumentals, but I love this one!
Happy birthday Mr scary 9/28/12. 58 years old and still one of the greatest ever
Ah the memories! Enjoyed it. Thanks for posting TTHETERROR.
I remember this George bodybuilder transition, his playing was top notch level. Just insane, cheers 🍺🍺🍺
I was listening to AC/DC back in the day and my cousin said you play bass listen to these guys and tell me what you think...lol WOW straight up Badass!
WOW, he was pulling some damn going legato tapping licks out there. I dig a lot of those type of runs from George. I don't know why but George is like a Marshall amp, you never know if you are going to get the good, the GREAT, of the piss poor George. Tonight sounded like the almost great George. Great video.
高校の時めっちゃ聴いたわ。。これ聴くと身体中の血が沸騰するんだよね~
はぁ。。かっこええ🤩
Look at George's hair. Is that Rick Springfield?
Rick Springfield is sheddin' it on Mr. Scary!
2:35 best bit
8 people wouldn't know jack about good guitarists and a (once) legendary band in its prime.
Mick was pushing the hell out of them in this one. Killer video
Nirvana ushered in the grunge wave and hair bands were gone off the radio. I was furious that you couldn't hear Dokken anymore on the radio. I resisted being a Nirvana fan because of it.
This is one of those songs eh, every version is different, I love that about Lynch, always improvising, trying new shit.
Saw this tour in Tucson as well as 2 others in the 80’s. George is the reason I started to play gtr and the reason I was a pro tech for a long time. Can’t play like him but I can repair a fucked up gtr lol, First 2 Mob albums were spectacular n a darker vibe than Dokken.
perhaps he was never lucky enough to be young and listen to this in an environment that would make one appreciate it. I remember many a god time cruising the back streets when I was young and this was the soundtrack. too many good times. great music. rock on.
I don't really see why people think this is bad. It's one of my favourite versions of Mr Scary out there, and I've seen most all of them. He should've added a bit more delay and gain for the "classic squeal sound" perhaps, but that's about it.
I totally love when he starts playing around 2:30.
Where did lead guitar like this go!? It seems to have vanished now kinda sad to think about it
George Lynch,.. he was under rated in my book. the man has great talent..Matt Strat
@LipstickFlash yes. John Norum of Europe. another kickass 80s band. EUROPE ROCKS baby. love the solo to Cherokee
@mgs316 Lynch has been playing bands since the 70s himself, and his sound was pretty distinct even then. There's a clip on youtube of Dokken playing in the mid/late 70s, if you can find it. I can't remember what to search for. He's always sounded more or less like this, which is pure sex. The part from 2:50 -> in this clip is ridiiiculously awesome :D
Van Halen did revolutionize rock with Eruption though, I agree with that. Tapping certainly entered the stage because of that song, hahah.
I could watch this a dozen times a day.
@scottydog3441 Agreed... having two guitarists opens up so many more possibilities, especially live.
3:00 why is. George's pedal technique to the max
George looked best skinny n ripped cuz it was WAY more savage lookin with that long hair n mad skills he had!
Lynch is a freak! Seen them live and was amazed!
When I saw him opening for Yngwie..it was amazing to see & hear his finger flying all over the fretbboard and millions to notes flying into your ears..then comes yngwie ouch my ear is bleeding.
to the person who wrote " he can't pull it of live " yes , there is a difference between live and studio. In studio he recorded about 5 different guitar tracks with different parts to complete the composition of the song. And to who said "Lynch is a beast " YOUR FUCKING A RIGHT !
bad ass!!!
@LipstickFlash No way LYNCH is the man, and is Playing with 2 Bands and has Done put out 2 Albums in 2010. He also Has put out Over 25 Albums in his Career. Lynch's Skill,Technique, Soul, & Feel is FLAWLESS!!!!!!
is there a video (tape) out there of george lynch playing an inflatable guitar as a comedy bit...i vaguely remember a clip from a Dokken compilation that had some funny bits...
@sthcrox my problem is you saying he CAN'T pull it off. i've seen Lynch enuff times to know that if he chooses, he can stick to the studio version or improvise. in most cases, does the latter. sorry if i came off rude, not usually my style. it's just that i'm very passionate about Mr. Lynch. peace.
live in japan?
After all these years had this mispersception that a great guitar would make me play beter, just realised how wrong I was, so fuck-it, I NEED those pants, so shiny! :D
This proves what Iv e known for years, George Lynch is a top ten shred master!
FN unreal. FN awesome. Did you guys see that bitchin guitar catch on fire?
Omg the drums are epic. Brings me nack to mu high school days
Love it there's My Guitar only Diffrence,I have the Skull n Sword inlays,Bad Ass Guitar Bought mine Back in '92' Still Rocking with it,Looks Brand New Like it did the Day Ii Bought it and Now I have the Skull n Bones,LOVE them Both!!!!!!
@fivestarkid03 thats a really bold statement, i don't think it destroys it, but this is amazing!!!
I love Dokken.
Awsome as always George . Eddie , who ???? Get Real . Also no way is he on roids . I should know , used them enough .
can't believe he did nt play my favourite licks at 3:00 !! anyway ..Pure Gold!
@ctoxic1
very cool to see this amazing guitar player with this big chests and muscles :D
このテイク、どのmr.scaryより好き
Incredible guitar Tone👍🎸🎶😁
This is fucking flawless, lol ☠️
As a wrestling fan i'm not an expert but unfortunately I know steroids when I see them, and this is just hard work. :)
Not even funny.. How good this is. Dokken rocks! Miss them and the 80's
He doesn't have the sheer definition that you can get from steroids. He really isn't on steroids haha.
niiice the g man rox....and a really nice guy too.
This instrumental is my fav from dokken, hell its my screen name on myspace, no I'm not a george lynch fan!!
I need your clothes, your boots, and your electric guitar.
If Lynch/ Mr.Scary is so bad why is the song one of Dokken's hits? Also why does Lynch have a solo career?
Killin it!
When the Terminator picks up a guitar
"I need your pants, your boots, and your electric guitar"
That was Kane Roberts
