Yay! I’m going into my senior year of high school and I’m going to be a teacher as well! Work hard in school and try to babysit as much as you can and get a job working with kids if you can once you are 14-16. Kids are a lot of fun
I wish when I was a kid they has us do the book chats. I had AR and didn't understand that I had to comprehend the book to answer questions. I thought it was just purely a race to see who could read the fastest and take the test the fastest. I failed every single AR test and was sent to a tutor for reading because they thought I just didn't understand english🤦♀️(I'm asian american but english is my first and only language). Once I was in middle school and realized how reading worked (I was 13 when I taught myself how to actually read), I was put into all the advanced english classes.
I have a 5th grader, 1st grader and 2 preschoolers this year. I honestly loved back to school when I was in school. I loved shopping for supplies the most

I just became a freshman last week but i miss my 3rd grade teacher😩 ( mr. banonno ) he passed away from a car accident over christmas break that year. we all went to his funeral😭❤️ we had a substitute teacher and a counselor in the room all the time. our class shrunk down after that. it went down from 14 to 6. most of the kids left the school and either moved or did homeschooling. they still have posters hanging up in the hall ways. i ultimately left the school but i see a good teacher when i see one. i love teachers like you😹💞 have a good year !!

Yeah i think they start at 7.30 which is quite early. When i was in school we started at something like 8.40! But that was later on when i was a bit older than 3rd grade
Oh my you guys have houses at my school we do as well at my school we also have to follow are rules for points as well but instead of calling it that we call ares the 20 bylaws and have bylaws of the day to help us remember them for the year and to help us learn them!

Is the page requirement differentiated between students ? I’m sorry, I’ve always seen reading logs in my CT’s classes and love the idea of book chats.
Your videos make me so hopeful for our education system! I see such an improvement from when I was in grade school. I love your packets, but just for future consideration, neon papers like that aren’t recyclable. Pastel paper is a good alternative.

I support you so much, you seem like such an amazing teacher! The only thing I will say I’m disappointed in, is the homework policy :( Finland has one of the best education systems in the world with absolutely no mandatory homework and caters to the needs of the students at their specific ages. 30 minutes of reading a night, PLUS a math sheet every day and with no exceptions for after school commitments takes away from the childhoods of students and family time! Especially with the lack of exceptions for after school commitments - some families have hardships that they might be embarrassed about or maybe don’t feel comfortable opening up about such as financial hardship, illness etc. and to expect that every kid can do that much work at night being only 8 years old is a little unfair especially considering some kids can’t have the help of their parents if there are many other kids in the family, if their parents work late and /or are really busy around the house, it’s too demanding for them. When I was in primary my dad and brother were fighting cancer which meant that my home life was extremely disrupted and it took away a lot of my time as a kid where I could play and just have fun, and it also meant I had very little homework support and with a workload this demanding I wouldn’t have been able to get through it myself. I understand they need to reinforce their learning but they’re only 8 and they need time to be kids; school should be the place where they’re doing all their learning. It actually increases their productivity, concentration and their learning without homework because they don’t feel like the school day drags on as much!! I hate to ‘tell you how to do your job’ I’m only saying this with love and I’m hoping my perspective will encourage you to look into the Finnish system a little more (they have many documentaries on TH-cam). I’m not from Finland but I find it VERY interesting the way they perform academically with their system :) all love x

I was wondering if the 10-15 post it note for reading was flexible depending on the student, I have written expression disorder but never had a teaching assistant or was in a special class due to lack of money in the school. I know as a 6-10 year old I really struggled with writing and wouldn’t have been able to produce that much writing for one book so I was wondering if you do it on a child by child basis so everyone gets rewarded for trying their best :)
It's definitely flexible depending on the student's needs. One year I had a student with a learning disability who preferred to just write a symbol on the sticky note to remind her what she wanted to share with me in the book chat and that was perfectly fine :)
