I literally just found a rifle exactly like the one in the video in a closet in my mom's house today. She isn't even sure where it came from and didn't know it was there. May be my grandpa's old gun. Thank you for the info! Pretty cool piece of gear.

Wonderful and well done. I'm going to to come back again over the weekend and revisit it again. I like that folded up receipt for the barrel replacement from 1947.
Your right on about the copper rounds way back in the day and the firing pins can give light strikes on the brass shells. The older pins were wider across whereas today they are thinner and go deeper.
I have two that are 29A models and have shot high velocity but mostly shot shorts and CB longs and CCI quiet long rifles. Then I remembered my dad telling me he and his dad stayed away from the shorts due to the dreaded chamber ring and jamming up. Sure enough they can have the empty short cases drop in the gun preventing the next round going into the chamber. Longs and long rifle no problem. Also they are accurate with all of them but the high velocity longs will shoot a bit high with one shooting a bit left the other a bit right.
    I'll be back.

Not sure what I said in the video but I now stick with CCI Quiet .22 for all of my older .22 rifles. Even CCI Standard Velocity seem a little too snappy.

Edit..meant to say the high velocity LR rounds can shoot a bit high. The LR Quiets and CB Longs are very accurate and shoot well with 6 o'clock hold.

It is from the 1930's. Always use mild .22 ammo....CCI Quiet 22 LR is a good choice. Thanks for tuning in!

I have 3 of them now. Savage 29b, stevens model 25, and a westernfield model 81. The Westernfield was only $135. Ya, it has a little chunk missing out of the stock, but it works.

Sounds like a nice group of .22 rifles. Which one is more accurate?

Algorithm spotted I was looking up my Ward Western Field model 80a. These appear to be crazy simple guns. I just wish I had the folding tang peep sights (got mine from my Grandfather’s estates) but the loading tube is bent and won’t load. (Was looking for restoration channel the other day to see if one was restored, which is prob what brought me here)

I think I need a firing pin and spring.
Is it the F/P spring that ejects the empty cases?
I don’t have much resistant at the very end of bolt travel. That extra secondary spring pressure after you slide the bolt back. There’s that last extra tension I don’t have!!!
in my round barrel 29a so the dummy cartridge just fall back into the action and jams it all up.

I have the same rifle, it was the first rifle my dad gave me when I was 10 years old. My rifle has the same color stock and forend grip. My rear sight is not the wedge type like yours mine has a ring that you can twist to adjust elevation and it has Dockendorff stamped on it. I have had many years of use considering I'm 57 now. I never knew it was a Savage rifle until seeing your video. Thanks for the video.

I have a similar one to yours, mine is a 1903 and has octagonal barrel and a 5 shot detachable magazine. You are absolutely right about trying to get info on these firearms. Mine is in ruff shape but I got it for only 40 bucks and I always wanted one since I was a kid and would shoot one every time I went to the beach at moving targets. Every time I see one of these videos I pull it out and work on it. Great video thanks for posting 👍

I have a very similar rifle which came out as the Stevens Peerless. Evidently this as a Savage 29 made these in Stevens factory which they purchased in 1920. Best I can tell, my rifle came out in the early 30s. Other Savage model 29s to come out of the Stevens factory were the Model 75 and the Model 29. The Peerless was evidently marketed through the Spiegel Catalogue and I imagine, like yours, the 79 and 49 were sold through other outlets.

    Hi... Love the video.
I put a deposit down on a Sears Ranger model number 102-35 Witch as you may know is a Savage 29. Mine is a 29B made after WW-2 round barrel action release above the trigger a bit further back on the trigger guard then yours. I have a close up photo of the Right side of the receiver and it clearly has 102.35 as the model number just as your has. Interesting that even with the model being very different Sears in my case used the same number. Witch make it very confusing on when these things are made.
Just thought you might like the additional information.
