    Respect to Ben for showing us his learning process, it can be a vulnerable experience so I appreciate you sharing this. Good luck for your goals!

    Loving this series. I wish it were more in-depth though, so we could get more videos out of it and see more of the training Ben is doing.

    Great episode! Love seeing the indoor to outdoor transition being documented here. Great series. I can't wait for the final episode. This has me thinking of documenting my journey this summer season at the gunks!

    Lovely series! Props for making this in a class way and big respect for Ben for putting himself out there! Showing off is easy (and can be done at any skill level) but trying to get better at something can be such a vulnerable state. Not easy dealing with that in general and certainly not when you know that a lot of people will be watching you on the internet!

    Just a quick quesiton, is the "fear of falling" title rhetoric or does ben actually have issues with that? Simply asking because it doesn't seem that way from the video or it perhaps was just not discussed yet.

    • @Svergara1
      @Svergara1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was thinking this too, I have a feeling its just a title. Fingers crossed they have more series like this planned with different people.

      Trust me, I thought watching it back the series showed how scared I was but maybe the camera didn't reveal this as much as I anticipated. At Malham I was terrified, I backed off moves, was scared of falling and was generally terrified the whole time. I had a little breakdown at the top the first time I got there. Trust me, I had a Fear of Falling.

      @Nick-B78 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben Cannon Yeah you can tell you’re afraid to fall. Yes you spent a lot of time falling when slapping for moves but they were when you were on top rope so you’re hardly ever going to fall more than a meter or so. The only time (in the video) when you may have fallen on lead was right near the end and you down climbed a couple of holds to reduce the fall which is something I do myself and it’s so bloody annoying. You’ll get there though 👍

    Really enjoying this series. Its well made and fun to watch without all the silly bits and bobs. Bens gonna crush 7b. No doubt. 🦾 im just gonna put it out there and say that Neil should start a podcast. He’s a Natural in front of the camera and could be the joe rogan of climbing 😉

    • @StuttiB
      @StuttiB 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This guy is not gonna crush anything, but his fingers... If you see the end of the video, it is obvious whats gonna happen. This Ben guy doesn't seem he has a climbers mentality. You can see on Niel's face that this guy is a pain in the ass as a waste of time...

      Is this the norm?
      why do they give the route a boulder grade? 7A and not 7a ??
      I've got allot of questions.
      help!

    • @bencannon8792
      @bencannon8792 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ockert5807 When working a route outdoors that is beyond your current level it is much easier to stick clip the route as you then don't have to worry about falling while making it much easier to find the beta. If you watch a lot of Pro climbers will do this when projecting a hard route, it is pretty standard.
      It's not a boulder grade, it is a sport grade of 7A.
      I hope this answers your questions. :)

  • @climbjay

    Ben climbs indoors. Ben climbs 6c with brightly coloured obvious holds. Ben wants to chase a pretty high grade that for some climbers would be a lifetime achievement… outdoors… on routes that are featureless by comparison… on holds that will shred your hands…. with no outdoors experience… in 4 weeks.
    Don’t be like Ben!! It’s impressive to want to do that but… just don’t grade chase.
    Just climb and climb and climb and climb. Improving head, strength, footwork, endurance, mind game, route reading etc etc and the grades will soon chase you.

  • @DirectorToes

    • @bencannon8792
      @bencannon8792 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I wanted to prove that you don't have to be a pro to be able to radically improve in a short period of time. That with dedication, enthusiasm (and a little bit of help from a real pro) that anybody can chase their dreams in climbing! :)

    • @DirectorToes
      @DirectorToes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough, I just wanted to see if there was anything more to it than that. I don't normally train with the intention of climbing a certain grade cause grades themselves are subject to opinion and don't generate much excitement for me when I'm sweating it out in the gym, lol. I get stoked to train when I have a route or climbing objective in mind and usually the particular nuances and cruxes of the climb help better inform my training. I was just curious if you had a particular route that you've been eyeing up, or if maybe you actually do find it motivating enough to focus on an overall grade.
