Ladies and gentlemen, today, I get to drive my friend Asfar's 2021 Camaro ZL1 and boy was it fun! I compare it to my 2015 Corvette Z06, and give you my opinion of which car is better.
Hi, We have a 2018 ZL1, 2019 ZR1. If you consider bang for the buck Zl1 is a better deal than ZO6. MSRP ZO6 $82000.ish and Zl1 is $65,000 ish. That is a heck of a deal for a car at that Preformance level. We love driving both cars, but would have to give the nod to the Corvette, having said that we also have a C8 , that is easily our favorite daily driver, honestly love all of them they are all a bit different, but all serious sports cars. @@byronwalden3207 , we’ll the ZR1 is pretty much a ZO6 with more power and trimmed up nicer. So the C8 is still our favorite driver, Followed by ZRI, then ZL1, but it’s close with all of them. Hope that answers your question
Great video. I was an old school pony car/muscle car guy and my intent was to get a Camaro until the C7 came out... I didn't get a chance to get a C7 before they announced the C8 and now I'm all in on Corvette. Still love Camaros but you know
6th Gen Camaros are the stuff of legend in the automotive world that competes with the German and Japanese sedan class sports cars. The C7 Z06 is on another plateau for track and would be akin to a Mercedes AMG GTR class vehicle, and there is a major difference. Dont forget that a ZL11LE is faster than a McLaren 570s at Laguna Seca. These cars are mighty.
ZL1’s do run cooler, but I had one chasing me around the track at Harris Hills Raceway, and he gave up. The spool valve shocks were beating him up. It’s a great car, but is heavier. Plus I have a 2019, ZO6 M7. Probably don’t have wheel cracking issues, and the seats are great.
Harris hill is fun but its a tiny track. I can see why the z06 would be better.. Now try bringing your 3 year old and wife along for rides with you in it like I do with my zl1.
Make a video of the GT500 and prepare to be blown away. I ordered mine in April and picked it up a month ago. It's BANANAS!!!! It's dct is incredible and I experience euphoria with each up and down shift. Would love to see your reaction if you have driven one yet.
Great video Mike. I've had both and they're both great cars. The zl1 is so menacing looking. That front end is insane. It makes me miss my Zl1 even though I'm in a C8 HTC now.
Sold my 17 ZL1 last month to get on the list for the C8 Z06. Really missing the Camaro a lot and I am way low on the list for the C8….. Hopefully I don’t regret the move in the end.
@@bigboytony_ Well after exactly 2 years, I finally got a Z06. The wait was brutal! Not having a “fun” car the whole wait made it even harder. But now that I’ve got the C8Z06, I have no regrets about selling the ZL1. I loved that ZL1, but the Z06 truly is the car I’ve wanted my whole life.
They’re fine to drive for a few minutes but the high door sills and those dumb pods on top of the gauges get really annoying. Like driving a giant bathtub.
Yes it is!! In '17 I drove the ZO6 8 speed auto then the '17 ZL1 10 speed auto and the ZL1 not only drove better, the extra 2 gears get it off the line stronger and makes up for the extra 250-300 pounds the ZL1 weighs. Then when you factor a fully optioned ZL1 with everything except the engine block heater I paid just under $68k while the ZO6 was almost $93k. Not a hard decision on this one folks.
I understand that but it just doesn’t have the presence of the Z06. Like my homegirl says “yeah that Camaro looks cool but it’s a Camaro, ok. That Corvette looks exotic like super cool” she doesn’t know cars. She just knows one looks expensive and mean and one looks like the LT V6 Camaro up the street. (I know it doesn’t) The Corvette costs more because it’s lighter, looks a little better and is a notch above. I would like a ZL-1 but over a Z06. Never! Transmission aside it feels different different when you drive it. Waiting for inflation to chill and I’m getting one.
I have a ZL1 and CLS55 AMG and RX8 6 speed. I have a wife and child who love to go for drives. That's why all my cars need back seats. When im old and lonely i'll get a vette

I’m leaning towards the z06 but lately I’ve been coming across the limp mode and over heating issues and I’m someone that’ll really drive the car how it’s meant to be driven I don’t baby it. Would you still recommend me to buy a vette for the experience or look elsewhere like zL1 or CTS-V I haven’t heard of those having the issue even though they have the same motor
I have a 2019 ZLE with the 6 speed, I have to say that going from driving my 2012 RAM 2500 CTD to my ZLE is quite fun, even though it has the DSSV struts, and it's not that bad on the road, but again, it all depends on the tires.
I think hands down orange zL1 is the best looking stock Camaro ever. I would’ve gotten a orange Camaro but got the black 2nd bra cause there was no orange crush available :(
Seems to me the C7 ZR1, and C8 team made copycats from the ZL1/1LE wing etc. The generation 6 camaro in ZL1 trim is a far better car than a C7 over heating/Limp mode on the track car.

Btw, where is the camaro GTE GT1 GTLM class? umm, have you seen the wings on those vettes going back to the C4 generation? No, they didnt rip it off from camaro. All the things you point to only the overheating and that was a simple fix by changing the heat exchanger. What? Camaro never have any issues from the factory? Comparing a camaro to a vette? Stick with comparing to a Mustang which has been its rival since the 60's. The vette is far better and if you are saying its far better because of a temporary limp mode/over heat situation that is a weak argument. So i guess the camaro is better than the new Ferrari F8 Tributo which has fuel pump malfunction, faulty oxygen sensors, aggressively wore out spark plugs etc Maybe its better than the lamborghini huracan because huracans have recalls and issues with defective engine software (which is huge) and doors that wont open and issue with the hinges. Yep, thats it , camaro is better. SMFH

I have a C7 Grand Sport. Been looking at the Zl1. But the exotic look of the Vette and Targa top is hard for me to let go of.

I’ve owned both a 2015 c7 zo6 zo7 package and 2021 Camaro ZL1 1LE and I would choose the ZL1 hands down.
i love my zl1 but a z06 is a better car. a zl1 imo is the best value in its class.

Yeah, they have a bigger front grill opening than the Z06. Oh yeah, the Z06 will take it at the track all day long.

I ve had may vettes including three c6 z06 and a c6 2011 Zr1 now have a 2022 Zl1 and i prefer it over the Vettes
