0ne wave length plus 5% as the antenna book says BTW for the reflector... Just a Correction to your video so people won't be doing it wrong!. Also a Reflector does not have to be grounded to be a reflector. Please refer to the ARRL Antenna Book. Also you pointed it in a different direction with yours it seems, being directional that matters. Just saying...

It's deliberate sabotage by the chinese. They know the proper wave length and it's no cheaper or harder to make those byquads in correct wavelength then it is to make it in the wrong wave length that you got it in. So we sent all our manufacturing to the chinese... they sell us deliberate screwed up junk.. and we are left with no other alternative, there is no other manufacturing facilities in the rest of the world to compete against them. Real geniuses our politicians...NOT

Good video Andrew. I am living in Ireland . How can i make antennae to receive mobile broadband signal in area where the signal is weak . Can you propose a solution ?

Hi Andrew, Your coaxial cable has a sharp bend and this provides high impedance for the 4G signal (according transmission line theory). The sharp bend has been straightened but once it is bent, it can't be undone. Use another cable

I was going to comment on exactly this coax fault. Someone crushed the dielectric at the kink and it will cause a low impedance mismatch from nominal 50 ohms. This will cause high VSWR and reflections preventing the full receive signal from the antenna to reach the receiver. And that RG-213 coax is very good for this 2.4 GHz application.

Sir im watching ur vids since long time...i build one biquad antenna for 1900 frequency...the sides are about 4 cm each...but it doeanot work i think...i m tired now...i need an antenna for my usb dongle... can u make one for 1900 freq...while bending the wire..1 or 2 mili metter difference does effect performance??...

many videos of this type try to connect an antenna to a usb port but that is wrong. It must be connected to a wifi router.

I took one of these (8$ eBay), opened it up, the dual quad antenna was actually w/in specs, I removed the lead in wire, took a netgear N300 2.4Ghz USB adapter, split it apart, wired antenna to it (this N300 has antenna ports inside), hotglued it inside case w/ antenna, mounted it on a pole, connected a 25ft USB cable to inside house, I'm seeing bizness SSID's that are almost 1/2 mile away ;)

it is a directional antenna... What happens if you point it directly at your AP?

  • @pascalf5pnp310
    @pascalf5pnp310 ปีที่แล้ว

not really bridge...center of the coaxial to one side, and the ground to the other side !! you cannot mesure this directly, because we are in RF, not in continuous... hf or rf are different to direct connection !!..open the box has maybe change the frequency, because we match the antenna with the distance between the reflector and the antenna !!

signal strength and signal quality are two different things, you can have low signal but great quality and vise versa, the second thing is if it's cheap and from the China don't get your hopes up, it's cheap for a reason

    Hello Andrew,
You're obviously like the best person to talk to about antennas on TH-cam.
I have have a few questions because you become very inspiring and really have sparked my interest in a few projects. What I want to know is the following.
When it comes to buying copper tape single sided or double which should I but and do they both accept being soldered?
Could I make ( with copper tape on card board ) a portable cheap antenna?
Out of all your antennas that you have built ( I pretty much seen all your videos ) which antenna performs the best and why?
    Thank You in advance Sir.

    • @andrewmcneil

It is hard to say which antenna is best as they all have their strengths and weaknesses but the best all rounder in my opinion is the biquad.

      andrew mcneil Hi Andrew,
You know what I did just out of stupid curiosity?
Like I said I was inspired by your work and knowledge.
I built a panel antenna really NOT expecting it to work. It's 11& 1/2 inches by 17 & 1/2". ( reflector ) the main panel slightly smaller.
Here's the kicker I had a really hard time trying to find copper tape BUT I have a NICE BIG FAT ROLL of Aluminum tape and was thinking would it work?
I couldn't solder the aluminum because that takes a special type of solder so I taped wires to the aluminum surface with aluminum tape and made sure there was a current running through the whole surface.
The aluminum tape by the way I did stick to card board matter of fact a Fed Ex box.
The thing actually works better then the two antennas that came with the wifi unit.
I was FLOORED! I didn't expect it to work at all.
Between the two panels are straws that are 4mm in diameter that I hot glued to the panels.
So far I've built four antennas because of you. Now that I know I can be successful at it I'm going to try and build something super powerful.
I Thank You for your great work. My internet is quick once again.
It hasn't been quick for almost a year!
      Thanks Andrew!

Where can I get a good resource that shows 'antenna calculations' behind these things? Some make the length 32mm and others 38mm so and so... but they dont tell why. Sorry btw... electronics are... out of my field.

      thanks Andrew,
btw I have build several Double Bi-quads they work better than the usual "arial" antenna that came with my 54mbs dongle... I hooked the dongle up to a dbl bquad and its a Rockstar! all using YOUR instructional video to the letter. Altho I have used Aluminium Plate as the base reflector the next few I make (and sell) will be made of wood as I feel I am loosing too much current to the plate and not the actual antenna itself* Oh last thingy, how much do you recon I should sell the db bquad for? Im thinking R750.00 - is this too little? what do you usually sell yours for?
      thanks Wifi-guru Man!
      kind regards,

    What's 1 wavelength square?

    • @DidntKnowWhatToPut1
      @DidntKnowWhatToPut1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I believe that is the wavelength of the radio signal is equal to the length of the sides of the reflector. For example a wavelength of 10cm will have a 10cm x 10cm reflector.
