CTD (1) - Launching the CTD to Collect Seawater Samples

- A CTD rosette is maneuvered over the side using a shipboard crane on the R/V Sally Ride in the early morning darkness and lowered into the ocean to collect seawater samples at specific depths, previously selected by each research team. Instruments mounted on the bottom of the CTD rosette will measure the Conductivity (a measure of the salt/salinity in the ocean), Temperature, and Depth.
