    Growing up with Legends of Tomorrow for the cheesy, flat-out weirdness and Agents Of SHIELD for the high-stakes, action and character work, which imo are the embodiment of what ComicBook TV Shows should be was an absolute blast. I miss them so damn much and it sucks that such shows aren't being made anymore

      This is ironic because I spent the last day thinking about the similarities between these shows. Both shows had a Seven season run and changed it up every season, no season felt like the last in a good way. No one had faith in them and everyone rooted for their cancelation season after season. Both shows were made from scraps in the Universe and got better with each season. And in the end both shows are some of the best examples of their respective universes on T.V. Each show had to battle osbtical after obstacles and embaro of characters or storylines from their parent company year after year but used their limmited access to their universe to their atvantage and turned a crutch into something truly amazing. AOS is actually my favorite show and legends always had a soft spot for me I think time will remember theses two as true phenomenons

    Legends of Tomorrow knows exactly what it is, and takes itself just seriously enough to get you invested in the characters and story. That's why we all love Legends of Tomorrow.

    I love the Legends. It's the wackiest, cartoonish comic book adaptation without being directly based on comics. The ensemble cast helps keeping the dynamic interesting and restricts the CW's infamous hallway talks. The Legends can change itself every season like a chameleon without losing its spirit. The show knows what it is and delivers in unique but fun ways. It's in my opinion the only show of the original Arrowverse left worth watching.

      What do you mean by "infamous hallway talks" on the CW?

    • @pwlpc
      @pwlpc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@LukeAdamMiller it's whenever they breakup the pacing of the episode, to have an emotional conversation plus pep talk. Which usually happens between just two characters in some kind of alley or hallway

    A lot has been said and written about Beebo vs Mallus, but this video makes a fantastic job of explaining why Sweet Baby James works so so much; I know some people didn’t like it, but season 4 slaps. Great work, Ross.

    This show is so damn cheesy, and yet, it gets you so invested in the story, that the cheesiness doesn't seem so cheesy. In fact, it seems kind of good. Especially when you think about what it represents, which you explained very well in this video. And of course, the laughs are great too.

    • @Swenglish

      The thing is "cheesy" has kind of become a negative word for fun. That happened at some point in the 80s or 90s, to where any time a piece of media tried to do something fun, something that wasn't overly self-serious and "cool", it got labeled "cheesy" by some and dismissed as not legitimate. I reject that philosophy. It's okay for things to be fun. Even ridiculous. I'm glad WB have been re-learning that lately. DC was a cesspit of so-called edginess for a while there.

    Legends of Tomorrow feels like DC's closest equivalent to the show "Community" created by Dan Harmon. They both frequently feature very human, dark, relatable themes being told through the lens of comedically heightened situations (they both also feature musical numbers, satire/parody of other media, semi-fourth-wall breaking moments, and the utilization of different styles & mediums, including a puppet episode)

    • @LukeAdamMiller
      @LukeAdamMiller 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely agree with everything you wrote, except your characterization of the themes as "dark", which isn't how they feel to me, but all the rest is spot on. In fact, I've also compared Legends to Community in my own mind. It's kinda nice to see I'm not the only one who makes that connection. You call them "semi-fourth-wall-breaking moments"; I like to say, "The Legends don't quite break the fourth wall, but they scuff, dent, and ding the hell out of it." In addition to Community, I've also noted similarities between Legends and Misfits (British sci-fi comedy-drama currently streaming on Amazon Prime in the US, and a must-watch show), The Magicians, and The Librarians (TV show, not the film series, which is entertaining and connected to the story of the show, but the film is one protagonist, whereas the show is a team and features a bit more comedy).

    LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE could be an alternative title for the show because that’s what this show is, it’s truly like no other, it’s own genre, and has set the bar so high that could possibly never be topped

    Someone's gotta send this video to the ppl who say legends is "brainless entertainment"...
    I mean sure the show is not perfect and there are instances when it is...but saying that it's just a wacky non-sensical adventure doesn't undermine the character driven plots it has. Thanks for this video essay... cuz there's a lot of things I missed watching this show now I have a better perspective off.

    • @LukeAdamMiller
      @LukeAdamMiller 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In addition to the character-driven plots giving the show real substance, some of the humor is incredibly clever. It may be silly, but it's also smart. I can't count the number of times I've been watching and thought to myself, "Oh my God, how did they think of that?!?!?"

    Fantastic job! What you said about Legends doing Wandavision first is almost why I am struggling to like Loki. It feels like a copy of Legends from the Time-Bureau like TVA to opening square portal doors to making the villains the good guys. Not only is Mobius their Rip Hunter, he gets blipped out of existence (allegedly) from a time device just like Rip.

    Prime Legends (seasons 2 and 3) is a great mix of Kingdom Hearts and Guardians Of the Galaxy. Embracing the corny and cheesy parts with pride. A lot of heart. A cast of characters you slowly get invested in. A story and tone that is all over the place. And the ability to out of the blue hit you with an emotional suckerpunch that hits way harder than you would ever believe it could.

    If all those franchises were to time travel as Legends of Tomorrow, it would be an epic and unpredictable adventure! Imagine the likes of John Cena, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Roman Reigns from WWE, alongside Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey from UFC, joining forces with Dominic Toretto's crew from Fast & Furious, the G.I. Joe team, Autobots from Transformers, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the ThunderCats, Street Fighter's Ryu and Ken, and Tekken's Jin and Kazuya, all traveling through time and space as a team of legends!
    Together, they would face various challenges and villains throughout history, combining their unique skills and strengths to protect the timestream and save the world from destruction. It would be an unforgettable and action-packed journey, full of unexpected alliances, thrilling battles, and heart-stopping twists!

    This show had the perfect premise. C list DC characters time traveling. So many underappreciated characters from throughout DC history that could have been showcasex for fun adventures.
    Instead, after about the second season they just started doing random stuff that had nothing to do with DC Comics at all.

    Dear Ross,
    A week ago my paternal grandmother died. Please pray for her soul it would mean a lot to me and my family.
    Also it would mean a lot to me personally if you talk about the Arrowverse & why it works better than the DCEU. You can list the problems of the Arrowverse while also listing why they work better than their film counterpart.
    Arrowverse is flawed but it's also really good.I can point out their flaws while also saying why those shows are really good. In fact they are good to the point I personally think that they are better than the DCEU. Many people say the Arrowverse is cheap and ask that why do people like me prefer that to high budget movies with advanced cameras, expensive CGI & high paid screenwriters ; because to me no matter how much money you throw at something if you don't care for the charecters ,the situation, if the actors aren't giving any charm and charisma to the role & to top it of if the entire plot is boring or frustrating with nothing happening then yes I would rather take these cheesy shows over 100/200 million dollar movie & TV shows.
    Because they are cheesy but I love them exactly for that. They know they are cheesy but they have heart & passion put into them, all the people who are making those shows read those comics and are trying their best with network budget. What makes them even more better is the fact all these talented actors can leave at any given moment yet they choose not to. They come back for these low budget shows because everyone in the crew is friendly towards them, people working behind the scenes are supportive of them & even when they leave they are always willing to have them back if the actors want to. And maybe somtimes that's what we need ; we don't need high budget or heavy advertising for something to be really good, somtimes we need that cheese factor along with actors who genuinely care for their characters, crew, production and two producers who stay by those actors no matter how much problem they face from others (this case Warner bros film division) ; you feel something that a million dollar movie can't do.
    To me the worst Superman movie of all time is Superman returns (yet Brandon routh is one of my favourite superman actors of all time), because for 2 & a half hour I didn't care for his Superman as much as I did in Crisis, it's because in Crisis Marc Guggenheim & Marv Wolfman knew how to advance the story while keeping the same spirit ,giving new lines & a much more better ending , while in Superman returns Bryan Singer (Thank GOD!! He is blacklisted along with Spacey) just did what Donner did minus the charm and Singer's own inflated ego led him to just making a total & complete borefest with dark cinematography and a downbeat tone (not talking about Snyder, Singer did that before him), while Crisis did give him a tragic backstory you get the feeling to combat that he has become more hopefull & truthfull in order to stop that tragedy from ever happening again. In Crisis on infinite earths I saw more character development of Reeve's Superman than a 200 million dollar movie. Even Superman 3 & 4 is memorably bad Returns is just dull, boring & forgettable with an unneeded 2 & a half hours.
    That's why to me high budget doesn't automatically mean great it just means it has more money thrown at it. That doesn't mean quality it may be better looking but that just means better looking, not better plot, story, characters, situation and motivation.
    At the end of Crisis their version of the Justice league felt more genuine with all the problems and all the things these heroes went through it makes sense for them to have this team to fight higher threats, why does the DCEU need that?.
    So it would actually mean a lot to me if you do make a video on the Arrowverse. Please make a video about how Berlanti managed to do what filmmakers & film producers got wrong from the very beginning. You can also talk about the Arrowverse problems too.
    Sincerely a fan of yours,
    Kazi.

      This is what i think about Arrowverse too. I didnt really care about DC back when I hadnt watched anything of the Arrowverse. I was one of the Marvel fanboys who watched nothing but Marvel. Then I just tried Arrow one day and fell in love with that show. It was like the Daredevil of DC (And ngl, Daredevil is the best thing ever created by Marvel). Then I went on watching all the shows of the Arrowverse except a few which had really bad reviews and which i personally didnt like after a few episodes like Batwoman and Supergirl. Now, I am in love with the Arrowverse.
      A lot of my friends tease me bcoz for them Arrowverse is just a cheap part of DC and they watch nothing but Marvel. Yes, the Arrowverse is cheap. But I havent connected with any other movie or show character than with Oliver Queen or Barry Allen. The actors hardwork and love for their characters can be seen easily.

      @@beebothegodofwar1450 Have you watched Marvel's Agents of SHIELD? It's the closest thing to Legends in Marvel, and, unlike the Marvel films, because it's a TV show you have more screen time with all the characters, so it's much easier to connect with them. If you haven't seen it, definitely give it a try.
