Bro i freaking love my mini.
I have the 7840U version 2TB 64GB
I was just thinking about doing this!!
Thanks for the great video. I have the gdp winmax2 7840u with 64gb and i really love it. I prefer the bigger screen than the mini however i feel that the winmax2 and mini are the leading handhelds so far.
you are the only one who bring this content ! Could you make a deeper review? How does it perform with nobar? does it worth to keep it? Battery improvment (maybe at lower tdp). Does freeze/wake up work properly?
Thanks! I'm planning on a bunch more content coming soon.
I see a few other people have commented about the sleep / suspend mode. Really thinking of getting a 2024 mini but the feature id miss the most from steamdeck is the suspend. But with the steam os install it looks like I may be able to retain that feature?
Thats awesome. Do you have a dual boot? Also a tutorial on the install would be great. Thanks for the video 👍
I did not setup a dual boot. I switched totally over to Linux and honestly found it to be a great experience.
Were you able to make use of the L4 R4 button? Is there a way to map them in Nobara? For example can we map R4 to open the quick settings?
I am waiting for mine. And will absolutely do this. Is there dual boot? Please do a video of the step by step guide. Many thanks.
You can dual boot. I elected not to do that.
This is awesome thank you for the video how is the battery life?
lol I have that plugin to controll the tdp but I didn't know that you can adjust directly from the tdp slider. I'm going to try it on my Ayn loki
Whats the difrenc between using this and just windows with big picture modes on autostart?
The linux install has far better direct integration with the hardware and I've found much better performance in linux.
Does the suspend feature work just like the Steam Deck where there's minimal battery drain in sleep, unlike Windows?
That’s correct suspend works great and there is minimal battery drain.
I did ChimeraOS on my laptop and I can attest that it improved my battery life and it does suspend mode.
Did you see improvement in battery life?
Even the 120Hz refresh rate works? And the gyro as well? And the trackpad? I'd be astonished!
Yup that’s all working. The gyro requires emudeck to be installed.
@@Arcade1983 so you can't use it on normal games? Or like with the GPD's software on windows that allows you to use it like a mouse or something?
@@fla8421 It’s not able to be used as a mouse, but if games support gyro control, then yes.
@@Arcade1983 yeah I get it, since you can't install the software provided by GPD since it is made for windows... Too bad
There must be another software to do so though 🤔
I don't understand, is this Nobara just o codename for Steam OS or is it a different OS which just mimics Steam OS? Btw got chills when I heard thad DS9 intro ☺
I’m glad you enjoyed the intro. Nobara OS is a Linux distro meant to mimic Steam OS. It’s the closest thing we have to a general release of Steam OS.
@@Arcade1983 I see, thx for the explanation. I probably had a completely wrong understanding what SteamOS is. So basically, it is a modified Linux with some tools and console like UI, which in the end runs Steam client to play games? So in theory if I take any Linux (with drivers support for my HW) and install just a Steam client on it, it will play games basically the same as it would in SteamOS?
@@yoba1450 Basically yes, though there are lots of other tools, software apps and libraries that support the steam client.
@@Arcade1983 Thx, now I think I get it. I shall probly also pick one of these awesome toys to tinker around :)
Would i use the steam deck version of the iso for the Nobara OS. there are 3 choices.
That’s correct. Bazzite OS is also available now which is worth a look.
How you disable secure boot, on you device? a have gpd win mini, and secure boot menu is inactive, i cant change it to disabled
You might have to set an Administrator password for the bios in order to change the setting.
which os did you use the kde, gnome or offical?
The Nobara OS Steam Deck edition is the best option.
@Arcade1983 just ended up going with holo iso everything works so I'm happy
@Arcade1983 I'm using the unlocked bios so getting that tdp!
Great I'm glad you're having a good Steam OS experience.@@jeterang8232
Is there a benefit regarding battery life?
With TDP control, you can get a lot of battery life out of the device. If you're playing more demanding games that will shorten the battery life significantly however.
@@Arcade1983 but does this OS consume less battery than Windows, so you can get more gaming time with likewise performance if you're on this OS rather than Windows?
@@kevk1766 The hardware will use the same amount of wattage no matter what OS you are on. The differance here is, linux uses far fewer resources in the background so you can turn the TPD down and still get the same performance.
