What people expect in an old car always amazes me. I’ve sold old cars where people expect a modern radio, or complained a tail light didn’t work. And they weren’t restored or was I asking a fortune for them. Te Dodge you have is a great candidate for a restoration. 👍🏻👍🏻

That Hilborn fuel injection system is awesome and so is that Hemi engine in that car. I would not be leaving it in that car now that you posted this video. I would be cleaning it up and putting it away and locking it up. You don't find those any more. I hope you find someone who wants that whole car. I wish I had the money for it....LOL. Nancy's guy Frank here... My first car was a 1955 Dodge station wagon... 2 door... I paid 200 bucks for it in 1962! Dad worked for Cities Service oil co. (now Citgo ) and it was a company car they were getting rid of. They said they would paint it for me as it had "Cities Service" painted in white on it's GREEN body. I chose Red and White! (but the inside was still green... so a nasty combination). It had a 6 cylinder with "3 on the tree" in it... was geared rather low so it had a top speed of about 82 MPH... yes I found that out in person.. ha ha. No radio so me and a buddy scoured local junk yards to find one that we could take out of their car and put in mine. Got the radio but it didn't have a speaker, it was already gone, so we found an old "console" radio 15" speaker and mounted it in a big cardboard box which we put in the luggage area. It would slide around but worked very well. I tried to brush paint or "spray can" paint the metal on the inside... with limited success. My high school friends still say that we pushed that old wagon more than we rode in it... we were always running out of gas. Kids... yeah never had enough money for gas, but we would pool our change get a gallon or two and go to the "drive-in" (then pray we had enough gas to make it home. An engine like in yours would have made my old car fly I'm sure.

It's pretty cool you found that old mechanical fuel injection set up. It might be on the back seat for a reason. Not all early Hemis are alike. 1955 Dodge Red Ram Hemis were the babies (270 Cu In) and had the smallest bore spacing and the smallest intakes. If that set up (likely) was for a Chrysler Firepower Hemi, even at the smallest of 331 Cu In there's going to be a problem.

I know what you mean - we'd call the old buick grills "rolling jukeboxes", and 50's mopars really looked like oddballs to us - the 50's fords and chevys were such tasteful designs that the Olds/Buick/Mopar offerings seemed garish at the time. But now I really dig those old boats, and wish I'd parked a bunch of them in a barn back in the 70's when you could pick them up for nothing! 52 years ago i got a 55 chrysler in running condition. It was totalled so i rebuilt the engine, put as many performance parts in it that i could afford. I dropped it and the tranny in a 1953 chevy car frame, it had the front suspension and steering gear. Took the dif and installed it in the frame with 392 gears. I put a 1949 truck cab on the frame put bucket seats from a 1969 firebird in it. It was a strange contraption but it worked. It weighed 1850 lbs and with a total estimated hp of 275 this monstrosity was quick for 1970, 11.3 1/4 mile. Had to get rid of it, cops were closing in on our local drag road and me. It was fun while it lasted. I had put $975.00 in this build and sold it for $4000.00.

Believe it or not, when you opened that door, and before you said what they were I was already yelling "Hilborne Injectors." Back in the late fifties, my dad was a sports car racer, and I went with him (I was 14 @ the time) to several SCCA races around central Texas, Including Green Valley Raceway near Dallas and Hondo Air Base. I saw a racecar @ Hondo Air Base called the Chevarri, that had a Chevy engine in a Ferrari frame and a Devin body. It had Hilborne injectors sticking out of the hood, and I just thought that must be the fastest thing ever! Lots of racers used those Hilborne injectors on various American V8s back then. What a find for you to discover these in that old Dodge. Sure brought back a lot of great memories! God bless you and yours.

Hey Silas. You have an amazing collection of goodies. Finding that old Enderle or Hillborn set up is really cool. There is someone selling just the Howard cover alone on H.A.M.B for $350. You have the pump and all of the injectors. Given the design and how the pump is driven it was probably used on an early dragster or gasser. It would have to be late 50's early 60's given how long ago that small Hemi was made. Anything for the early Hemi's Dodge or Desoto is rare especially barn find stuff. It is all rebuildable and restorable. Figure todays fuel injection is all computer controlled. Your set up is all mechanical and worked the same. Until next time.

I just had to pause it for a few Silas. Those cruise controls worked great on stationary equipment so that it would govern the throttle on like wreckers that were old school... your back at the winches and a idle would take forever to load something but you would set that cruise control so that you hit the switch and it would speed the engine up and you did what you needed then turned it off again... no need for the speedometer cables as I remember but I am sure that you see how it works. I was watching the races as a young boy entering my double digits... and those hilborn or other slidedraft fuel injections were the number one finishers on race day! Only like eight bolts hold the frame on those 64 chevys an easy to pull and put so if you needed some floor pan work, it was easy to just lift off the frame and do whats needed.... I am going to go back to this video an will just "edit" to add any more content
Ok, parting words are; the back windows for Barracudas are as rare as the fuel injection system you showed. I have seen them sell for over two thousand dollars to someone who had to have one that bad. Its a blackmail price, not true value price

Before you get too excited about the injection, let's say it IS for a Hemi... But are you sure it is for a DODGE Hemi and not a 354? See if the ports match up with the ones on the Dodge heads. Or even check the distance between the intake bolts with a mic and compare with the ones on the injection system.

Another awesome video! I hope someone fix up the 55 Dodge! If it was a 2 door sedan I would offer you $2k for it. Body looks great for it age and interior is really nice, only missing the radio! Would make a great 50's lead sled or cruiser for the nice spring, summer, and fall months! Take care.

Hilborn up in Michigan will set that injection up for you, on that hemi, and that'd be a great gasser engine! Stick it in something like a Henry J straight-axle gasser. Amazing historic find for sure.

    Maybe it’s an X-Ridge Runner ( MOONSHINE RUNNER )??
That your car is getting ready to sell it with the old red ram in it.

Hello Silas, my good friend and neighbor Steve Beem steered me to your channel. Every time I help him in his yard he talks about your dad. Looking forward to a trip to meet you.
