I got the bad batch 5-year; complete bleed-through with gel pens and fountain pens. There's no way to write on both sides of the page. I'm so glad you got a good one!
Oh man ☹️ I’m so sorry that happened to you. I know there are some from a bad batch. I would definitely reach out to wherever you got it from to see if they can help remedy it for you.
Hobonichi official site has a form where you can send the pics of the bleeding pages (front and back) and answer some questions. They are treating each case individually.
I am so impressed with Mr.. pen products. I also love that the company started off with a group of teachers finding reasonable art supplies ( I’m probably not giving the story justice). Their website has the original story
Why is it so fun to watch others swatch pens??? I find it so enjoyable and relaxing. I've watched a lot of videos on the paper with Hobonichi's this year. It's too bad because the issue is big enough that it could negatively impact the brand. I was worried and tested my planners a few weeks back. My HON is fine, no issues. But with my weeks, it seems like all my purple or purple-based fountain pen inks had bleed through. That said, Helen's day to night, which has lots of purple tones, is fine!!
I’ve tested my Hobonichi Cousin and the 5 year journal but I haven’t tested my Weeks or A6. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 they’re ok. I hope they are remedying the issues on their end with customers. They are such a great brand hoping this doesn’t change that 💕
I usually write with a 0.5, 0.4, or 0.3 - I us 0.7 for headers - you showed many of my favorite pens as well! I love to write in blue, brown, vintage purple or vintage green or black of course

If you like heavy, juicy gel pens that work on the new "picky" TRP, I find the Uniball One refills in the Sarasa Grand body absolutely divine. Even the .5 performs really well, if I need to write small, I use the .38 though. I'm honestly very much impressed by the One, I don't know why it took Uni so long to come out with something so stellar, but there's a reason why they're so popular. 😊 I'm an avid FP user and this is the first gel pen (especially this combo) I actually like the writing experience of.
It’s 1.04 am here in the uk and there’s me up watching your videos love love love watching your videos I got my first Hobonichi cousin for 2025 and obsessed with tcmc stuff now two 😊x
Weirdo here 🤪 I am in the same spectrum when it comes to liking finer lines/nibs. I actually just did my own pen test on my Hobonichi and selected almost all of the same pens you did. Great minds think alike!😉 Those coffee edition Sarasa pens are cute, sadly I already have all the vintage colors. If you really like the Uniball one, I suggest your try the F edition! The One F has an improved pigmented ink with a darker black tone and more vibrancy. Your video was very enjoyable. TYFS❣️✨
I love Energel Clena pens, and I also really love the free Hobonichi pens that come with ordering straight from the website as well (Uni Jetstream ballpoint pens). Definitely hoping to nab a TWSBI Eco or two soon as well, been using my Pilot Preppy fountain pens so much that the bodies are starting to crack 🥲
Me too. I really enjoy the blue and brown. I have yet to use one of the free pens. What is the tip size? Maybe I can pick one up from Jetpens or Yoseka. Twsbi is a great pen and they’re so pretty 😍
@@PlanningLifeWithErin The Uni Jetstream multi pen that comes as a Hobonichi freebie is a 0.5! Although the black isn't the blackest, a 0.7 might be more up your alley? It would look more like the Clena 0.3. It writes flawlessly though, and it's what I use most in my Weeks that I use for meal planning.
Thanks so much for this video! I'm getting ready to move in to my first Cousin from an Erin Condren and the pen ghosting and bleeding through concerned me.

I have so many of the same pens as you! I tell my coworkers I’m a pen snob and not to get mad at me if they use one of my pens. I have cases full!!!!

foo-day-no-SOO-kay" is the proper way to pronounce this word.
I’ll get it one of these days. lol. My brain can say it right but then my words come out differently 😂😂🤦🏼♀️
