I am so proud of Shaun because he has exhibited bravery in the face of adversity many times of the course of the show. His character has made me take a look into my own life and draw inspiration. Phenomenal writing and acting.

My husband is autistic and I had these same thoughts when we first got together. There's nothing wrong with those thoughts. You think about how someone's disability will affect your life and if you are willing to face the worse case scenario. I decided I could. Lea seems unsure. I hope they actually have a dialogue about it because I think I would be really powerful.
@@Gyhach no kids for us yet. We are considering trying next year, though my husband is hesitant. Chances of our children being autistic are higher and it worries him. He was bullied as a child and worries if our child will experience the same. But he also thinks he will be able to have the most incredible bond with any child we have who is in the spectrum because of his own life experiences. All in all, as long as a child on the spectrum, and any child for that matter, has all the love and support they need it somehow all comes together wonderfully 🥰
I've been saying this for a while. The friendship matters that much to her. No one respects it. But she's been in relationships and they've come and gone. She doesn't want that to happen with Shaun.

Lea understands that she has her own issues and knowing how Shaun has a hard time handling his negative emotions, she didn't want to be the cause of him having breakdowns. I'm sure they'll be together someday but as of now, they both have a lot of growing to do and that's totally understandable.
She's scared. it's understandable. His autism will make their relationship a challenge and she doesn't know if it's worth jeopardizing their relationship.

Takening on a relationship with someone who has a disability is a challenge. And lea herself has her issues. I totally understand. She was honest about her doubts for the relationship.
I agree. I wasn't even mad at her I just felt bad for Shaun. Not everyone is Saint Carly. Having a relationship with someone with a disability is a big responsibility especially when you have your own set of issues to deal with. Shaun just fell in love with the wrong person. He and Leah are great when they are together but how different would it be when they are in a committed relationship. They might end up being bad for each other. Great as friends but horrible as lovers.
I have Autism and when I told my girlfriend that I have it, she doesn't see me as an Autistic man. She sees the real me through my heart. And even though they're not dating, Shaun and Lea are like me and my girlfriend. This show means a lot to me and Shaun is my hero because what I learn from him, I use it in my daily life. I'm not a surgeon but I use what he learns to my life and it helps me become a better man. Thank you, ABC, for green lighting this masterpiece. Thank you, David Shore, for creating Shaun. And more importantly, thank you, Freddie Highmore, for perfecting his Autistic speech patterns and mannerisms.
I need to learn how you both do this, because I have such a difficult time in any close relationships based on autism. It isn't because of the autism itself, but what it entails, and how particular I am about how people communicate with me... It's tough.
Paige Spara said that she was supposed to kiss his cheek and say “I’m so sorry, Shaun” before she walked out, but instead she just did what felt right for the scene. Both of their nonverbal acting is amazing in this scene

Tripz Tristan this is a legit concern. We got a glimpse of how Shaun acts with Lea. I’m not completely sure he can handle it. It’s one thing being friends and it’s another thing being in a relationship. Carly and Lea are two different people. I can imagine how their relationship will go.
As someone with autism, this hits incredibly hard. Mostly due to the realism. Lea's reasoning is completely fair and solid. It's also really pure and real. I broke down crying because of the end when Shaun said ''is it because i have autism''. I feel this way a lot of the time.
Yeah but reading what you type it seems you understand and are able to process information clearly. You might be in the spectrum of having mild autism. Shaun a different story he has autism that not severe but of course it affects his daily living and how he processes everything, not only that but he has experience traumatic event in his life such as his pet dying in front of him, his abusive father and how he watch his brother died.cant really relate the spectrum of autism compare to Shaun
It is very sad... This kind of situations.... But they are perfect for eachother, I am very Lea in real life, I am a mess... Easy to be hurted, very sensible... I hate lies and I think Shaun always tells the truth, is really honest, and always does his best... This are all virtues in a persona with autism.
I have autism as well. I relate to his pain and struggle. The episode in the beginning of the season where he has a meltdown at Glassmans office crying that he is destroying everything left me in tears.
Red_Ray, IDK about that; speaking of women who “can handle his autism best,” both Carly and Claire seem to be stronger contenders for that. It’s just that Lea is the one _he_ loves, yet she’s the most unstable of the three ☝️

I think lea is just unable to be in a relationship with anyone and she cares about Shaun so she doesn’t want to start something knowing she’s gonna mess up and hurt him. Lea doesn’t like anything that’s hard. She wants easy and not serious. Shaun would be hard and serious. She’s not good at commitment. I think after she loses him as a friend and really thinks bout it she will go to him and ask for him back
Yeah things can't be forced. Sean needs to let her come to him. He needs to go out and experience himself way more than just one girlfriend before leah. Leah is too much for him.
Of course a woman can. But choosing not to be with someone you love is a hard choice and who you may choose who is convenient, or easy, tends not be as much emotion, or connection. If that doesn't work out, many women start to say there isnt any men available.
My boyfriend has autism, high functioning. It’s not always easy, but it’s nowhere near impossible. We love each other so much. Sometimes when we video chat, he just sits there and admires me. He’s the sweetest man I have ever met. The downside is that I have witnessed a couple meltdowns in the 13 months we’ve been together. I’m learning his triggers, and even how to calm him down from meltdowns. Being with him has opened my eyes so much, and I’m truly blessed to call him mine. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Lea's not rejecting him because of his autism. She had zero problems in the past with it. She has always treated him as a person. What she _is_ doing is choosing to prioritize his happiness over what she wants. That's what she was trying to tell Shawn. "I know you love me, I love you too. But you need someone who is stable and predictable. But I'm not her and you would eventually grow to resent and hate me for it." This is one of those scenes that has awarded my faith in Lea.
@@househead67 because the autism is an issue. Not for her, but him. And Lea knows this. Despite all his progress, he still is extremely hampered by it. We've seen what happens when he becomes confused, frustrated or bad things happen. It's a lot harder for him to handle and he comes apart. We saw what happened after Carly broke up with him. And he even told Carly that he loved her, he loved Lea more though. Imagine what would happen if they hit rough times. And despite what they feel for each other, Lea understands extremely well that her personality will cause him more stress and issues than she's willing to put him through. So yes, Lea has an issue with it: what it can potentially do to Shawn if he gets involved emotionally with her. She refuses to hurt him like that. It's actually what she tried explaining to him as simply as she could but I don't think he understood it. That's why she didn't reply to his question, because she knew that he couldn't understand what she was trying to say.
@@househead67 because the autism is something really hard to deal with (for Shaun and people around him), she was trying to say she is not good with solid relationships and Shaun's condition would ask for a solid one with someone who is not a complete mess. I understand Lea, because I'm just like her, I may love people but I better never get in a relationship with them cause I'm not a predictable and I'm always changing my mind about my feelings. I would never date someone with autism once I know would break his heart. It's not easy to be in the spectrum and it's not easy to be like Lea too. This relationship would be a mess, they need some time to figure out how to do it.
Aleast she was honest about being selfish. But i completely understand her reasons. I still feel for Shaun. Not being brought up the right life he wanted as a kid. And with especially being a kid. You need those life skills, adventures, fun, etc... it's just a learning curve for Shaun
This moment did not go how i imagined. Lea actually opened up and was honest with Shaun. Her doubts make a lot of sense. She didn't deny her feelings for Shaun. I'm very curious to know where things will go now in terms of their friendship.
Wow such a great scene. You can tell Lea loves him. It may seem harsh but he needed to hear it. Lea isn't like Carly. Lea doesn't have her stuff together. She's still figuring her stuff out. An it is the honest truth he can't handle that. She loves him. But his autism does get in the way of him being able to handle someone like Lea. Plus the fact is she loves him to much to want to hurt him in that way. Yes rejection does suck. However he should be able to tell that it's not him. It's more her than anything. If she was more like Carly I don't think she'd be having such a battle with herself. Cause if the fans couldn't tell you can clearly see her wanting to say just fuck it but than she snaps back. Her voice cracks are everything.

It's interesting that from an outside perspective, most people would look at this relationship and be tempted to think that Shaun's autism would be a huge burden for HER to bear. They might assume that she would be the one doing all the heavy lifting. But, clearly Lea doesn't feel that way. Quite the contrary, she looks at this situation and thinks that she is the one with problem not him, and that she would be too much for him (or anyone) to handle. But, relationships should never be onesided, anyway. People are supposed to lift each other up and share each others burdens, together. But, if you ask me, Shaun's autism isn't really the issue here. In fact, it might be the main reason that these two work so well together. Bottom line: Lea's scared. Call me crazy, but I think that she'll be given the opportunity to work through her fears. Same as Shaun.
I am actually glad the way everything went on. Everyone was 100% honest with everyone. I also liked that lea left without hugging becoz that hug would cause even more pain. And finally, carly....what a woman!...girlfriend or not i hope she remains a good friend to shaun becoz he needs her. The show has been a gem, although didn't like hugging with the gown on near the autopsy table and the fake liver he was holding...could have been a bit more realistic.
I understand she's scared and was honest with him but everyone gets scared of being in a relationship with someone, she should embrace what she feels for him and go for it
This scene leaves me with a broken heart. My son and the center of my universe has autism-that and my interest in medical drama series shows drew me to this show. Definitely one of the best shows on tv in my humble opinion. I knew they had a closeness and new he had feelings for Lea but I was always team Carly. I can’t imagine my son coming to me with tears in eyes telling me a woman doesn’t love him specifically because he has autism. I think I would guy cry. I really am impatient to see what happens on the next episode.
I think you're missing what isn't said but shown in these scenes. Lea absolutely isn't saying no to a relationship "just because he has autism". I also hope your child never has occasion to say this to you, or to feel that way. But that's not what's happening here. Lea loves Shaun and the thought of losing him in the way she's lost every boyfriend before scares her so she doesn't want to risk not having him in her life at all. She basically said, I know I'd be the problem. I know we'd end because of how "I am".
A_Noelle, I can definitely relate to this: some people are just better people as friends than as lovers/in a romantic relationship. Something changes in the dynamic when they go from just being friends to being romantically attached: suddenly there are expectations that didn’t exist before, and expectations can so easily lead to resentment - either because those expectations are not being fulfilled, or because one or the other partner feels they’re being forced to fulfill expectations they can’t keep fulfilling. As pure friends, it’s a lot easier to just enjoy each other without demanding or expecting anything in particular: you give each other space, you’re there for each other whenever possible, but when it’s not possible, you don’t take offense because you respect each other’s separate lives and recognize that however/whenever either of you can enhance the other’s life, it’s not a foregone duty, but a gift 💝
As a person on the autism spectrum, this scene really makes me feel like crying. It may be fictional, but the struggles we go through, the emotional pain that we feel is all too real.
I think there's nothing wrong with people or yourself at all it's just a way to make people think something is wrong when really all autistic is a made up word to stop People from knowing you as Geniuses with out a problem at all most everyone doesn't deserve y'alls kindness and angel sent spirit and replaced the word Genius with autistic because they dont want you to change the world and take the mean peoples power! No such thing as autism being bad or anything in My Opinion ,they matrix already tries to make people feel dumber down and mind controls pchsy-ops ,etc... they are scared of your power because you can save the world and a lot of people dont like what they dont understand if a WORD is attached to it they act like sheep and jus believe it instead of saying like me the word should be Angel's and Geniuses , ! It’s good to know that they both truly understand each other and that they know how the other person is. This is truly the most human and realistic way things can go until they can learn how to deal with themselves on their own. Truly heartbreaking but also self-aware
Lea loves Shaun so much that if things didn't work out for them, she would be utterly destroyed. She's scared, and she doesn't think she's good enough for him. Look at how she talked herself down to Shaun--"I'm selfish, I'm so, so needy, I'm a total mess." But I believe they will et there. #Shea all the way!
On the bright side, one of the producers of the show has stated he also wants shawn to end up with lea, but its got to grow and it will take time, I'm sure they will find the way to work things out and conquer their fears together.
HUGE congrats on reaching the 1 Million view mark! 6th Season 3 video to do it, and the FOURTH “Shea” video from S3!! I just love that whether sad, angry, hopeful, or happy, the story of Shaun and Lea resonates so strongly with so many!
Some impressive acting from Paige Spara here. Anyway, I like how she self-aware and knows that she is selfish... but the irony is being concerned for Shaun getting hurt is very UNselfish. I think she will come around in time... the love is there.
I really don't think she meant what Shaun thought... I do think she doesn't think she's good enough to be with him. You can see she loves him, but worries about hurting him. I mean, Lea is the complete opposite of Carly. Lea has seen how well Shaun and Carly worked together, and that's what is hold her back. By the end of the season, Lea and Shaun will most likely be together.
I remember Claire warning him that he would get his heart broken more than once, and lose jobs more than once too (episode where Shaun gets fired). Still, rejection hurts like hell.
A lot of people here are missing the point. Lea isn't rejecting him because he is autistic. She isn't saying she only sees him as a friend. She has issues of her own, and that's why. She is afraid of hurting him. Now is not the time to start jumping to conclusions. It seems like people don't want to give Lea a chance for character development or overcoming her own issues.

This was heartbreaking for the both of them. It is terrifying for anyone to say that you love someone but Shaun took the leap of faith. Lea left speechless at the very end when she normally has a lot to say speaks volumes. She really loves Shaun and was honest enough to admit that she is flawed and still has to get her life together. It’s not that she thinks Shaun couldn’t handle her selfishness and neediness and messiness. It’s more like her having doubts if she could handle being in a relationship with him. I’m sure they will find their way to each other eventually.
I love these two together (and not only the characters, I love their chemistry when they are on stage together), at this point I hope for a twist in the season finale because for me these two are soul mates!
It's good to see her be real about this and not blow it off. As disappointing as it is to Shaun it's better that she's honest. I can see them experiencing different challenges than he did with Carly just like I can see them making it work. Maybe she'll get past her concerns and take a chance.

I have asperger syndrome, i felt this so many times. I appreciate everytime someone's honest about me and how hard could it be for them to enter a relationship, but it still hurts all the time.

Yep. And at that point, it wasn't an issue with Shaun. It was her. She thought her flaws (messiness, neediness, selfishness) would be too much for Shaun, and she didn't want to hurt him and ruin their friendship. It wasn't until she heard Shaun say the she made him more, that she realized that he could deal with all her flaws, as she made him a better person.
The Jenny to his Forrest gump and we all know how this story will end. This was exactly like the forrest gump scene where forrest ask jenny to marry him but she shoots him down and we all know how that played out I think they are going in that direction with them

As hard as the end of the scene was, I do admire Lea for asking Shaun to say what was on his mind. She must have known what he wanted to say, but she didn't give some preemptive friend zone speech, or tell Shaun "before you say anything....". Even if she wasn't ready to act on that love she had for him, it was clear that she DID care deeply about him!
It's so good to know the NOW SHE'S READY to act on her love for Shaun and they will be a couple! They were meant to be together from the beginning. That was the show's ceators intention as well.

Not really. There was clearly something she wanted to say but didn't. I imagine we'll learn what that was soon. But there was no way to say it wasn't his autism, still say no to being together, and not make it a debate. We know Shaun. He'll continue all day to prove his point of view. Further argument would've only hurt them both more.
Why everyone says that he doesn't deserve Carly?! I mean Carly broke up with him. It was her decition and I think it is not his fault. He doesn't cheate on her or something other in this way.
Lea's problem is that she doesn't have the courage to start a relationship with Shaun. He told her, I love you, but she must get in order first, so that she can take the next step with Shaun. It's a great scene, when Freddie sighs when he hears what Lea says he is great, she also can't express her feelings. This series is great, it is more useful to see it in order to understand the spectrum of autism than all the therapies in the world.
I understand her....I also felt same way with someone who wasn't autistic. When she said that she's a challenge for anyone, it hit me so hard. It reminds me of myself. I'm really a challenge for anyone...not just love but also friendships, family etc. It's just so hard...
But after the hopelessness of the s03e16, there's the happy hope of the end of s03e20. "I love you with all my heart." and "You make me more Shaun". I wish all the Shaun and Lea shippers a happy, blessed Easter Festivities, and God's blessings in these sad lonely and infectious times. But heads up, their love will win as well as our root for them.
Shaun swung for the fence and you've got to give it to him. It takes not only courage, but guts to tell someone that you love them, and which ever way it turns out, you've got to give Shaun credit as well as another phenomenal performance from Freddie Highmore. It's moments like this that make me appreciate the show for what it is, especially for being on the spectrum, I can somewhat relate to the character of Shaun Murphy.
Lea has a right to feel the way she feels. I think she made valid points and was honest about her concerns even if it's not what Shaun wanted to hear. Let's not pretend that Shaun's form of autism is without genuine emotional and sometimes physical hardships. Even during friendship.

I hope the writers of the show decide to explore the love in their relationship and keep them together. The cheap way out would be to break them up at some point in the series. The brave artistic act would be to keep them together for the remainder of the series and explore the complexity of this relationship. This is a brave show and I hope that bravery continues for as long as the show runs.
Yeah, I think Shaun was always destined to be with Lea since they first met. She was the first person, besides Glassman, to accept him for who he was and see him for more than being autistic. She was the first person that he allowed to hug him. I'm glad the writers took the time in having them grow their relationship to the point where they both realized they loved each other. They'll have their ups and downs, as any couple will, but they'll keep making each other better. And I think they're in this relationship for the long haul.
This was good...this is one of the struggles of loving someone who has autism. As a parent who has sees this struggle in my little boy...this hit me so hard. Knowing that they see things as black and white and you have to stand there and watch them struggle with it because you don’t know how to explain it any other way. Ugh! Tears! But at the end of the day...you just have to love them...that’s all...there’s nothing else.
Oh my, though I saw this coming it was a great scene. Paige did so well , I was tearing up with her! So Lea is really too scared not being able to handle his automism while she is complicated and exhausting on her own. But I guess (hope) she will think about his last question....because now those fears and feelings being confessed their friendship will not remain the same. This would hover over them. So if this might end up their friendship she hopefully change her mind - if she relly loves him she'd better give it a try before they go separate ways anyway
Well said! Such an emotional scene, and Paige Spara absolutely BROUGHT IT!! I feel a bit encouraged, as though Lea will let her own words sink in and take the necessary steps to address those. There’s so much depth left to explore, and I really hope we get to explore it!

Takening on a relationship with someone who has a disability is a challenge. And lea herself has her issues. I totally understand. She was honest about her doubts for the relationship.
I agree. I wasn't even mad at her I just felt bad for Shaun. Not everyone is Saint Carly. Having a relationship with someone with a disability is a big responsibility especially when you have your own set of issues to deal with. Shaun just fell in love with the wrong person. He and Leah are great when they are together but how different would it be when they are in a committed relationship. They might end up being bad for each other. Great as friends but horrible as lovers.

I have Autism and when I told my girlfriend that I have it, she doesn't see me as an Autistic man. She sees the real me through my heart. And even though they're not dating, Shaun and Lea are like me and my girlfriend. This show means a lot to me and Shaun is my hero because what I learn from him, I use it in my daily life. I'm not a surgeon but I use what he learns to my life and it helps me become a better man. Thank you, ABC, for green lighting this masterpiece. Thank you, David Shore, for creating Shaun. And more importantly, thank you, Freddie Highmore, for perfecting his Autistic speech patterns and mannerisms.
I need to learn how you both do this, because I have such a difficult time in any close relationships based on autism.
It isn't because of the autism itself, but what it entails, and how particular I am about how people communicate with me...

Yeah but reading what you type it seems you understand and are able to process information clearly. You might be in the spectrum of having mild autism. Shaun a different story he has autism that not severe but of course it affects his daily living and how he processes everything, not only that but he has experience traumatic event in his life such as his pet dying in front of him, his abusive father and how he watch his brother died.cant really relate the spectrum of autism compare to Shaun

My boyfriend has autism, high functioning. It’s not always easy, but it’s nowhere near impossible. We love each other so much. Sometimes when we video chat, he just sits there and admires me. He’s the sweetest man I have ever met. The downside is that I have witnessed a couple meltdowns in the 13 months we’ve been together. I’m learning his triggers, and even how to calm him down from meltdowns. Being with him has opened my eyes so much, and I’m truly blessed to call him mine. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Lea's not rejecting him because of his autism. She had zero problems in the past with it. She has always treated him as a person.
What she _is_ doing is choosing to prioritize his happiness over what she wants.
That's what she was trying to tell Shawn. "I know you love me, I love you too. But you need someone who is stable and predictable. But I'm not her and you would eventually grow to resent and hate me for it."
This is one of those scenes that has awarded my faith in Lea.

Despite all his progress, he still is extremely hampered by it. We've seen what happens when he becomes confused, frustrated or bad things happen. It's a lot harder for him to handle and he comes apart. We saw what happened after Carly broke up with him. And he even told Carly that he loved her, he loved Lea more though. Imagine what would happen if they hit rough times.
And despite what they feel for each other, Lea understands extremely well that her personality will cause him more stress and issues than she's willing to put him through.
So yes, Lea has an issue with it: what it can potentially do to Shawn if he gets involved emotionally with her. She refuses to hurt him like that.
It's actually what she tried explaining to him as simply as she could but I don't think he understood it. That's why she didn't reply to his question, because she knew that he couldn't understand what she was trying to say.

@@househead67 because the autism is something really hard to deal with (for Shaun and people around him), she was trying to say she is not good with solid relationships and Shaun's condition would ask for a solid one with someone who is not a complete mess. I understand Lea, because I'm just like her, I may love people but I better never get in a relationship with them cause I'm not a predictable and I'm always changing my mind about my feelings. I would never date someone with autism once I know would break his heart. It's not easy to be in the spectrum and it's not easy to be like Lea too. This relationship would be a mess, they need some time to figure out how to do it.

This moment did not go how i imagined. Lea actually opened up and was honest with Shaun. Her doubts make a lot of sense. She didn't deny her feelings for Shaun. I'm very curious to know where things will go now in terms of their friendship.

You can tell Lea loves him. It may seem harsh but he needed to hear it. Lea isn't like Carly. Lea doesn't have her stuff together. She's still figuring her stuff out. An it is the honest truth he can't handle that. She loves him. But his autism does get in the way of him being able to handle someone like Lea. Plus the fact is she loves him to much to want to hurt him in that way.
Yes rejection does suck. However he should be able to tell that it's not him. It's more her than anything. If she was more like Carly I don't think she'd be having such a battle with herself. Cause if the fans couldn't tell you can clearly see her wanting to say just fuck it but than she snaps back. Her voice cracks are everything.

You know what, either way, I'd be disappointed. Honestly. That would be disappointing for me to see him end the season getting together with either of these women.
It's interesting that from an outside perspective, most people would look at this relationship and be tempted to think that Shaun's autism would be a huge burden for HER to bear. They might assume that she would be the one doing all the heavy lifting. But, clearly Lea doesn't feel that way. Quite the contrary, she looks at this situation and thinks that she is the one with problem not him, and that she would be too much for him (or anyone) to handle.
But, relationships should never be onesided, anyway. People are supposed to lift each other up and share each others burdens, together.
But, if you ask me, Shaun's autism isn't really the issue here. In fact, it might be the main reason that these two work so well together. Bottom line: Lea's scared. Call me crazy, but I think that she'll be given the opportunity to work through her fears. Same as Shaun.

I am actually glad the way everything went on. Everyone was 100% honest with everyone. I also liked that lea left without hugging becoz that hug would cause even more pain. And finally, carly....what a woman!...girlfriend or not i hope she remains a good friend to shaun becoz he needs her. The show has been a gem, although didn't like hugging with the gown on near the autopsy table and the fake liver he was holding...could have been a bit more realistic.

This scene leaves me with a broken heart. My son and the center of my universe has autism-that and my interest in medical drama series shows drew me to this show. Definitely one of the best shows on tv in my humble opinion. I knew they had a closeness and new he had feelings for Lea but I was always team Carly. I can’t imagine my son coming to me with tears in eyes telling me a woman doesn’t love him specifically because he has autism. I think I would guy cry. I really am impatient to see what happens on the next episode.
I think you're missing what isn't said but shown in these scenes. Lea absolutely isn't saying no to a relationship "just because he has autism". I also hope your child never has occasion to say this to you, or to feel that way. But that's not what's happening here. Lea loves Shaun and the thought of losing him in the way she's lost every boyfriend before scares her so she doesn't want to risk not having him in her life at all. She basically said, I know I'd be the problem. I know we'd end because of how "I am".
A_Noelle, I can definitely relate to this: some people are just better people as friends than as lovers/in a romantic relationship. Something changes in the dynamic when they go from just being friends to being romantically attached: suddenly there are expectations that didn’t exist before, and expectations can so easily lead to resentment - either because those expectations are not being fulfilled, or because one or the other partner feels they’re being forced to fulfill expectations they can’t keep fulfilling.
As pure friends, it’s a lot easier to just enjoy each other without demanding or expecting anything in particular: you give each other space, you’re there for each other whenever possible, but when it’s not possible, you don’t take offense because you respect each other’s separate lives and recognize that however/whenever either of you can enhance the other’s life, it’s not a foregone duty, but a gift 💝

It’s good to know that they both truly understand each other and that they know how the other person is. This is truly the most human and realistic way things can go until they can learn how to deal with themselves on their own. Truly heartbreaking but also self-aware
Lea loves Shaun so much that if things didn't work out for them, she would be utterly destroyed. She's scared, and she doesn't think she's good enough for him. Look at how she talked herself down to Shaun--"I'm selfish, I'm so, so needy, I'm a total mess." But I believe they will et there. #Shea all the way!

I really don't think she meant what Shaun thought... I do think she doesn't think she's good enough to be with him. You can see she loves him, but worries about hurting him. I mean, Lea is the complete opposite of Carly. Lea has seen how well Shaun and Carly worked together, and that's what is hold her back. By the end of the season, Lea and Shaun will most likely be together.

This was heartbreaking for the both of them. It is terrifying for anyone to say that you love someone but Shaun took the leap of faith. Lea left speechless at the very end when she normally has a lot to say speaks volumes. She really loves Shaun and was honest enough to admit that she is flawed and still has to get her life together. It’s not that she thinks Shaun couldn’t handle her selfishness and neediness and messiness. It’s more like her having doubts if she could handle being in a relationship with him. Yep. And at that point, it wasn't an issue with Shaun. It was her. She thought her flaws (messiness, neediness, selfishness) would be too much for Shaun, and she didn't want to hurt him and ruin their friendship. It wasn't until she heard Shaun say the she made him more, that she realized that he could deal with all her flaws, as she made him a better person.

As hard as the end of the scene was, I do admire Lea for asking Shaun to say what was on his mind. She must have known what he wanted to say, but she didn't give some preemptive friend zone speech, or tell Shaun "before you say anything....". Even if she wasn't ready to act on that love she had for him, it was clear that she DID care deeply about him!
It's so good to know the NOW SHE'S READY to act on her love for Shaun and they will be a couple! They were meant to be together from the beginning. That was the show's ceators intention as well.
I like how David Shore allowed this to grow into something special. Shaun & Lea just fit. Even through their struggles, it’s clear that the love is there!
I think what ends up making it sadder, is that he just stands there solid, and unmoving and he is just holding back the tide of hurt and grief.

But there was no way to say it wasn't his autism, still say no to being together, and not make it a debate. We know Shaun. He'll continue all day to prove his point of view. Further argument would've only hurt them both more.

Why everyone says that he doesn't deserve Carly?! I mean Carly broke up with him. It was her decition and I think it is not his fault. He doesn't cheate on her or something other in this way.

Freddie Highmore is such an incredible actor who deserves to win an Emmy for this brilliant role!!
Lea's problem is that she doesn't have the courage to start a relationship with Shaun. He told her, I love you, but she must get in order first, so that she can take the next step with Shaun. It's a great scene, when Freddie sighs when he hears what Lea says he is great, she also can't express her feelings. This series is great, it is more useful to see it in order to understand the spectrum of autism than all the therapies in the world.
I understand her....I also felt same way with someone who wasn't autistic. When she said that she's a challenge for anyone, it hit me so hard. It reminds me of myself. I'm really a challenge for anyone...not just love but also friendships, family etc. It's just so hard...
But after the hopelessness of the s03e16, there's the happy hope of the end of s03e20. "I love you with all my heart." and "You make me more Shaun".
I wish all the Shaun and Lea shippers a happy, blessed Easter Festivities, and God's blessings in these sad lonely and infectious times. But heads up, their love will win as well as our root for them.

This scene was supposed to end with the ‘pity kiss’ that Shaun refers to in the final scene with Lea but it was changed to Lea walking away.

Shaun swung for the fence and you've got to give it to him. It takes not only courage, but guts to tell someone that you love them, and which ever way it turns out, you've got to give Shaun credit as well as another phenomenal performance from Freddie Highmore.
It's moments like this that make me appreciate the show for what it is, especially for being on the spectrum, I can somewhat relate to the character of Shaun Murphy.

Lea has a right to feel the way she feels. I think she made valid points and was honest about her concerns even if it's not what Shaun wanted to hear. Let's not pretend that Shaun's form of autism is without genuine emotional and sometimes physical hardships. Even during friendship.

I love how he stands still the whole scene and yet his face tells the whole story.
I hope the writers of the show decide to explore the love in their relationship and keep them together. The cheap way out would be to break them up at some point in the series. The brave artistic act would be to keep them together for the remainder of the series and explore the complexity of this relationship. This is a brave show and I hope that bravery continues for as long as the show runs.
Yeah, I think Shaun was always destined to be with Lea since they first met. She was the first person, besides Glassman, to accept him for who he was and see him for more than being autistic. She was the first person that he allowed to hug him. I'm glad the writers took the time in having them grow their relationship to the point where they both realized they loved each other. They'll have their ups and downs, as any couple will, but they'll keep making each other better. And I think they're in this relationship for the long haul.
This is one of the most saddest scene I've ever watched!
This was good...this is one of the struggles of loving someone who has autism. As a parent who has sees this struggle in my little boy...this hit me so hard. Knowing that they see things as black and white and you have to stand there and watch them struggle with it because you don’t know how to explain it any other way. Ugh! Tears! But at the end of the day...you just have to love them...that’s all...there’s nothing else.
The Good Doctor tends to literally have everybody feeling emotional and in tears.
Oh my, though I saw this coming it was a great scene. Paige did so well , I was tearing up with her! So Lea is really too scared not being able to handle his automism while she is complicated and exhausting on her own. But I guess (hope) she will think about his last question....because now those fears and feelings being confessed their friendship will not remain the same. This would hover over them. So if this might end up their friendship she hopefully change her mind - if she relly loves him she'd better give it a try before they go separate ways anyway

I feel a bit encouraged, as though Lea will let her own words sink in and take the necessary steps to address those. There’s so much depth left to explore, and I really hope we get to explore it!
Imagine hating one thing about yourself so much and you can’t do a thing about it, and then someone you cared about won’t be with you because of that one thing. Believe me, it’s worse than a heartbreak.
