This is a memory I will never forget. I've lived in Lakewood for 21 years and have never seen lightning like that before that night. I mean there was no pause between the flashes for a good hour. And even then I was bummed when it stopped :-(
Well, here's a little more from Denver last summer. I am fairly close to Lakewood, but the footage was taken from my 12th floor window in the evening. See any tornadoes in this lightning storm from last summer here in Denver? The storm was over the mountains & it was in the evening. I couldn't tell. Absolutely stunning storm video! I really enjoyed this. I'm from Ontario where we used to get storms like this, but have lived in BC now for over 20 years where we get probably 2 or 3 storms per year, and I really miss storms like these, so I'm living vicariously through your video. Thanks for posting!
Lightning is my favourite thing about summer, love when the rain passes and it's just sight and acoustics and you can feel the rumble in your feet! Wow is right!👏🏾😮
@GonzoREDSUNS Glad you enjoyed it. Colorado gets 2nd most lightning storms in the U.S, behind Florida. We get a storm like this about once or twice a year, although this was the best I've ever seen.

Nice to see someone with brains enough to keep the camera still, in focus and without a bunch of brainless commentary. I've only found 4 videos thus far worth downloading and this was one! Thanks again.
Thanks. I'll never know why some people click dislike. Personally I only do it for false advertising (video doesn't deliver what title or thumbnail is representing). Maybe this lightning storm just wasn't "incredible" enough for some. Maybe it displays poorly on a particular video card or monitor, or they didn't bother to play it with good sound. We'll never know.
I agree! Such a spectacle of nature is greater than man can ever match in creation so, wonderful filming and thanks for sharing. Oh, was this a supercell? :)
daemn42 I guess where they have something similar or more is in the deserts of Sahara. I happenned to be in Jeddah Saudi Arabia one time. I like these lightning sounds. They remind me in 80s when i was young there used to be these sounds in my home where i was raised here in Kenya in nyandarua county of which they are no more. keep it up we like this. joseph Njogu.
I lived in westminster Colorado when this storm hit you couldn't even go outside the lighting to ground was relentless I've never witnessed anything like it in my 36 years of life.
It was pouring and it was real windy and you know the Sky wouldn't stop flashing! I hope this can happen in Houston another time cuz I just think it's so awesome!!
I remember watching that storm from the kitchen window of my house I wasn’t videotaping lightning that year Three years before I started videotaping my thunderstorms
The spot I choose is the back edge of a parking deck that juts out from the side of a 10 story tall hotel that gets wider as it goes up (overhangs) so it blocks a lot of rain and wind. I figure the closest lightning would hit the top of the building or one of the light poles on the other side of the deck. Just about anywhere, from inside your car, is reasonably safe.

At about 0:26 seconds in there is some strange thunder like its broken or something, I heard this during a storm the other day, would you know what causes that because I have never heard that before ?
It happens because cloud to cloud lighting bolts overhead may travel for miles but not in a straight line so the sound gets to you at different times. If the bolt turns toward or away from you at close to 90 degrees, it can create gaps and overlap in the sound because the bolt itself travels so much faster than the speed of sound.
Thanks. No fog, just moderately heavy rain for a while. Stock microphones on the Canon SX-30IS camera, which were way better than the mics on later generations of the same camera. Wind blocked by the building at my back so didn't need screens over the mics, and building helps intensify the sound a bit as well. Other advantage of old SX30 was a CCD sensor so no rolling shutter artifacts which are common in most current lightning videos shot with CMOS sensor cameras.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! NO TALKING JUST THAT THUNDER AND LIGHTNING! YEAAAHHHH! Thanks. I pointed the camera where the majority of the lightning was. Sometimes that meant the street light was more in frame than at other times. I was lucky because there's actually about 3 street lights right in front of me at the edge of the parking deck, and they were off. Normally they're not.

It's an internal lens reflection. The bolt of lightning is pretty close but almost directly overhead, just out of frame, and that is caught by the front lens element and reflected into the forward view and appearing abnormally close. Happens in many other short lightning videos, where some people will mistakenly claim that the bolt was as close as it looks.
Bridget Murphy If you're referring to the blue glow at the bottom at 5:18 (and I think one other place in the video) that's usually when lightning strikes a power transformer or power lines and the transformer burns up while electricity is flowing through it for a few seconds longer.
MSMTK I actually saw a storm like this once in San Jose. Folks kept telling me "It never does this here". They also told me it never snows there, but I saw snow on all the surrounding low hills once while there on a different trip. Guess the interesting weather just follows me around. ;)
Billy baggins The camera is on a tiny little tripod and the head was a little loose, so it tilted down by itself at that moment and showed the concrete table it was sitting on. Kept it in the video because I still wanted to capture the thunderclap.

I remember this storm and I have footage too. It was bizarre.
Wish we had storms like this in CA we barely get anything at all.
MSMTK I actually saw a storm like this once in San Jose. Folks kept telling me "It never does this here". They also told me it never snows there, but I saw snow on all the surrounding low hills once while there on a different trip. Guess the interesting weather just follows me around. ;)
daemn42 Do you think you can edit the background sounds out like the ambulance and some weird groaning out?
daemn42 What is THAT at 0:07.
Billy baggins The camera is on a tiny little tripod and the head was a little loose, so it tilted down by itself at that moment and showed the concrete table it was sitting on. Kept it in the video because I still wanted to capture the thunderclap.
daemn42 can you play video games during a storm like this or no?

Loved it... Pure hell awsome
I love it from on top the mountains
why so many emergency ambulances ect in background? just curious :)
The filming location is about a half mile from a hospital
Were you outside when filming the video?
