I know the movie wasn't super popular but I genuinely liked it and also just loved this dumb couple for some reason (don't judge me) even though I usually hate couples made up of dickheads and their long suffering girlfriends. These two and the script made it cute this time though.
I liked these two together. Mostly of how the mage didn't really give a fuck about arthur lmao they just had a platonic relationship which had the subtle implication of being more. It's a shame we won't be getting any sequel films because we would've seen them actually interact.
i know!!! i have no idea why this movie flopped to be honest, i actually thought it was quite good. and i always love couples in movies that have their screentime spent on developing their relationship instead of just forcing them together asap under any circumstances.
@@avabrown2345 apparently it flopped because of bad reviews from critics. Although i do see that it has a dedicated following of people who thought it was a good movie. I appreciated the fact that they didn't instantly hook up in this movie, but now that i do know this movie won't have sequels, i wished we could've gotten a kiss, or atleast a caress, any heavy implication of a possible relationship blooming.
It's bittersweet though, because from what i know, the story of arthur and his love life is pretty complicated. The Mage, as the girl is called here, isn't mentioned by any name that might indicate her counterpart in the Arthurian stories. People are saying that she might be morgan le fey, since she was a witch who ordered there by merlin. I think there's a version of king arthur where he actually gets together with morgana and have a son with her. But, who knows. With her calm and gentle demeanor, she might also be guinevere. So i guess since this an adaptation, they were planning for her to become a hybrid between morgana and guinevere.
And again, it's bittersweet that we won't have future sequels. Bitter, because we won't see them together anymore. But sweet, because their relationship might end up in tragedy and complication in the future. Guinevere hooks up with Arthur's right hand man. Morgana i think in some versions betray him.
Mmh, 😂 is obvious in the ending that Arthur have feelings for the Mage...so imagine having more time for their show burn develópment
I know this is an old post, but I remember reading that the Mage was in fact Guinevere, and was supposed to be Arthur's love interest, as per the legend. But they cut most of that subplot out. I think they were hoping for a sequel where they could have fleshed that out a bit more ...
I love the eerie natural aesthetic going on with her! In fantasies, the beautiful women are usually done-up with rosy makeup, glamorous waves, and perfect smoky eyes--which is fine--but her look is a cool new idea. She looks un-styled, but born beautiful the way wild animals are. But she's not the usual "sexy dominatrix witch" either. And I like how her demeanor toward him is a bit distant and cool, but she's not cruel. And thank goodness she doesn't do that melodramatic, fake-y, "UNHAND ME YOU BRUTE!" damsel act. She just legit isn't attracted to or intimidated by him and has other things on her mind. I like her.
I believe this lady must be Morgan le Fay. After all, no other magician would have fell for this prince, and Morgause should have seduced him into siring Mordred as his Bastard Spawn. Since it never occurred within Legend of the Sword, it must be Our Dear Lady of Avalon~Myunissa {Witch}

The actress did a great job portraying the Mage, her very European look and accent really added to the character.

It's a nice character moment for Arthur to tend to the Mage's shoulder, showing that he cares about her.
If they ever do a sequel, I'd like to see him make the Mage his Queen.

One of the most underrated movies of all time! I guarantee you this movie will be a cult classic within 10 years... mark my words!!!
I want a sequel too bad. There will never be one because, of the lack of legends after the fact.

in the original script she was Guinevere but they took the name and 'connection' out during production---for some reason Guy Ritchie felt it wouldn't work for the film, I'm not sure what it was but it was something Charlie Hunnam apparently mentioned in an interview. Something about the value of being "something else"

Except the mage isn't Guinevere. If anything, the mage is Morgan Le Fey from Arthurian legend. She was a sorceress after all
