- The drama depicts the love story of Bai Feng Jiu and Dong Hua Di Jun, that spans 2000 years. Feng Jiu, the queen of Qing Qiu, is the only red nine-tailed fox in Qing Qiu and thus being pampered by everyone. She loves to cry and to throw tantrums but is also persistent and brave. One day, when Feng Jiu is in the mountains for cultivation, a beast attacks her. Luckily, the former Emperor of Heaven Dong Hua passes by at this moment and saves her. To pay the debt of gratitude, Feng Jiu follows Dong Hua who goes to fight the rebelling Demon Lord. Feng Jiu soon realizes that gratitude has turned into love, however, Dong Hua already forgot what love is. In order to keep her safe, Dong Hua sends Feng Jiu to the mortal realm, but the guardian he sends together with her unexpectedly dies. While trying to find the immortal fruit that can let her be reborn, Feng Jiu enters the temple of the ghost princess.

But think about something else. In the dream of aranya he makes a smaller version of his mirror to see aranya's past life. Even FJ explains to Li how DH can see lives through his mirror.....while DH uses his mirror to watch FJ. Are we supposed to believe he didn't simply watch his own past life that day. I think he remembered. Asked for the report to see which one of his buddies were part of the conspiracy. But he checked out his mirror and knew d@mn well who FJ was to him....and ji heng for that matter.
I feel kinda bad for Dong hua cuz he literally has no clue about all these things all he did is just doing his everyday chores but feels like every one is blaming him for fengjiu pains

DH never knew how much FJ sacrificed for him out of her unselfish heart. When he realizes this, he’ll regret everything that he did to her from her time as a fox, to aimlessly teasing her in the Heavenly Kingdom and replacing the prize with something else in order to help Ji Heng’s illness when FJ worked so hard in the contest compared to Ji Heng not doing anything.

Oh Dong Hua remembers what has happened in the mortal realm in his dream and doesn’t remember Feng Jiu at all who appeared in his dream
I think he does remember her as well. Like he tells FJ father later on, he fell in love with FJ at first sight in the water. FJ thinks he is lying but he isn't. Thats still Xuanren. 😏😂 He is just hiding it behind a pokerface to get the clean slate he wanted with her. His actions are that of a man still in love with his ex...not of one who just met a girl he likes. There are some hurt feelings he is trying to hide. And he had an emotional response when FJ mentioned his kingdom falling apart...he heard her say she doesn't want a weak guy but someone like Qingti. He is simply trying to outqingti qingti. Cause as Xuanren he wasn't getting anywhere and he doesn't know why. He also doesn't know FJ's intend behind tricking him in the mortal realm. He thinks she did it to him not for him. So instead of simping hard Xuanren is trying to control the situation and get his girl back one way or another. All is fair in love and war. Only when lian song informs him of the truth do you see more of the original Xuanren pop back out (white coat,learning to cook for her etc).
I think that pokerface of DH is simply trying to hide his inner Xuanren. Even before he went to the mortal realm....the way he was with foxy FJ was very Xuanren-ish. (A lack of) nurture turned him into DH but by nature he is Xuanren. 😏😂🤣
Feng Jiu, Dong Hua and Lord Cang Yi filmed a comedy movie called Mr Pride and Ms Prejudice. Both guys liked her and chased after her there.

22:10 when lian song tells Dong hua he matters to him, Dong hua looks up like is he mocking me, but Lian song has a serious expression on his face. At 27:30 he follows up his concern with a warning to his girl don’t mess around with majesty safety.
23:26 Dong hua makes si Ming stand there without a word which was his way of saying get lost, even lian song side eyes him leave fast brother.
I love the subtle change in expressions when he is reading scroll, he opens it swiftly anxious to find the answer to the cause of his pain, then he becomes surprised it doesn’t match his memories he stares perplexed, dejected he closes the scroll slowly his hand still lingering in the air sad at what he had lost feels bigger that what is written down.
Lian song advises 26:02 Dong hua to forget about it, role reversal between friends, Lian song the eternal romantic saying don’t obsess over a woman and Dong hua who lets everything go replying why should I when u can’t. This is the turning point in the story that Dong hua is ready for love is ready to fight for his woman now the question is where is she.
He is not convinced by the scroll he is suspicious that this is bullshit by si Ming squints at it WTH did he change.

Feng jiu just destroyed her bridegroom's manor to show that she didn't agree marrying him. But he still in love with her anyway and hang her portrait in his manor after renovation.
I am not sure that there is any English translation of Pillow book or not. I had seen it in Thai and Vietnamese.
I think people just don't understand the timeline of this story. People keep talking about modern concepts of choice and individualism, but the drama already hit its limits because the timeline it talks about had none of these. The fact that they included some of these modern concepts is already an addition. We may value our current ideologies but we can't just say the past doesn't exist. The fact is during ancient times almost no one can choose who to marry. We might not like it now but we can't change the past. It is also respect to the story to keep at least some of the elements it had when it is written.
I am on Feng Jiu’s side though since she is being forced in to marriage with someone she doesn’t know though and so she really fights with the guy who is gonna marry her though

javi Begum They are blaming him for treating her badly while they were still in heavenly realm. Obviously, she was in her fox shape so he treated her like a pet but once she bit the demon godess twice (who was to marry dijun), dijun had her locked away. He did eventually look for her.
All in all, there is a lot of misunderstanding about Dijun.. He is really not as cold hearted but is just. You’ll see how misunderstanding him & him trying to protect fengjiu will cause more issues in their relationship.

On my 5th watch. I do not remember Dong Hua being so shaken up after his mortal love trial. Then Si Ming lies on his report and doesn’t let him know that Fengjiu was why he was so broken hearted. When she talks about him he can feel pain in his heart.
